I am stuck trying to get that darn seal off the letter without either melting it or cracking it and no matter how long or short I heat the knife it does not want to work for me. Anyone have a saved game so I can finish Chapter 5 and go on to Chapter 6? Please? Thanks Love, Betty Lou

I tried to do that and it keeps loading up the first puzzle -- Pierre- in that set of three. I have finished Pierre and Rosamonde in this set, cannot complete Jacques and have clicked on the next set of questions/puzzles down starting with Pierre again. Keep getting Archery scene. Will try again but I may be back here if it does not work. (That's what I thought, that one could skip a puzzle and miss a piece of the story but it does not want to work for me). Love, Betty Lou

I got it! The trick is to click on the Roman Numeral on the left to choose the next set of 3. Now I am cleaning and scrubbing away at that sooty flower in the fireplace and the darn knife just will not start to glow. Have the flower with no X, the stem (cannot get down all the way to the bottom like the picture in the w/t shows but keep cleaning there anyway) and the Stem with the X on it at the tip. Just how much 'cleaning' do I have to do here anyway? When will the knife be pickupable? Is that even a word? Getting 'cleaners cramp' and frustrated. This is too much like housework and is BORING! Help? Love, Betty Lou

Betty Lou, are you sure you've made the leaf long enough? Mags' walkthrough says that the tip should be even with the center of the flower...

Yes, but I will go back and make it even longer. Funny the X on the leaf shows up just fine, no X in center of flower. See ya later Love, Betty Lou

Betty Lou, I don't understand how that X got on the leaf--Mags clearly states that you have to use the knife to make the Xs and you said you can't pick it up!!! Well, if making the leaf longer doesn't do the trick then we'll just have to wait for Mags to show up. She's in the midst of a computer melt-down at the moment...

Well, I have tried again and again to clean the flower, stem and petal enough to get the knife to 'glow' and nothing happens. Am I supposed to first click anywhere on the engraved words to trigger something? There is no 'hotspot' cursor for that, I just (really) read it and then start on the flower. Have followed the w/t exactly and even gone so far as to clean thoroughly the whole darned engraved flower so as not to miss a speck of that soot. There is no way to 'back off' from this to see if I can then pick up that knife..I've tried and no cursor to do so - only the cursor 'arrow' which is an inactive spot...no down hand or left or right either. I guess I have to just skip this one too. Darn Love, Betty Lou

Well, I cannot skip this part, the game says I must complete all 3 tasks for level Chapter 5. Now what? Can anyone take my saved game and play me past it? Love, Betty Lou

You are right MaG, there does not seem to be any way to find and access the saved game files. Under C:/Program Files/Paris1313 there is a file called svg but I don't know how to open it. So I can't send you or anyone else my saved game files. Guess this is another one I cannot finish. Very strange indeed. Oh, and the X I think I see on the leaf is not actually on the leaf but is a scratch in the cement between the tip of the upward leaf and that design in the circle that comes down and meets it - it sure looks like an X but is not. Don't know where to go from here. I give up. Thanks for your help. Love, Betty Lou

NOPE, and this game is definitely NOT WORTH this much frustration - no amount of 'cleaning' and checking to be sure this flower, stem and leaf is done, is worth it. I QUIT Thanks for trying to help Love, Betty Lou

Betty Lou, Zanthia with the help of her loving hubby Jerry sent her saved game file for Paris 1313 to me to sent to you. She also included a screenshot of the finished puzzle - so that you can use it if you want try doing this puzzle again. It's on the way already. There's instruction on how to use it. Hope it works, that is, if you want to try and play it again. MaG Thanks, Zanthia and Jerry! You're both wonderful!!

Sorry to be so long getting back to this. Friday my granddaughters came for the weekend (surprise visit and fun!). Also my CD drive quit on me and other computer problems with mine and hubbys kept me from my games. Dave our computer guy was here yesterday and fixed all he could and replaced my cd drive (got a CD RW burner) and worked on hubbys computer too. Most of the problems are cured. Couple things we need to install to fix the rest. So I am back to the games. As for the saved game Zanthia and husband provided, I seem to recall that I installed it into the saved game file (not so easy to find) and then in the game tried to "load" it so I could continue play but it had a weird name (numbers and characters on several lines, not named as the other saves are) and I quit fiddling with it and gave up as I could not make it work for me. I think I shelved the game for another time to try again. Am now playing Post Mortem. Thanks for all the help you guys. I had a great weekend, hope you did too. Love, Betty Lou
