Hey there - appreciate any advice anyone can give.
Bought Dreamfall Chapters and it wouldn't play so bought a new video card and it worked brilliantly.
Got through Books 1 & 2 (although the end of book 2 was hard work)
I am now on Book 3 and the game is practically unplayable. Mouth jams up constantly and sometimes the keyboard too.
I was enjoying the game and am very disappointed but can't see a way forward. I can't play it as it is.
I am playing through Steam .. I would understand if it had never played but why "all of a sudden"?
Thanks
Ness

It would be helpful to know your system specs: operating system, video card and amount of video memory, RAM, etc.

I do know that Dreamfall Chapters had an upgrade recently with the game engine and that it now runs on the Unity 5 engine. I don't know much about Unity, but I am wondering if it made Dreamfall Chapters a little more demanding in terms of system requirements.

Hopefully one of the techies here will be able to advise you.

Sorry should have thought of that.
It's Windows 10
Intel Core i3 CPU 540 @ 3.07GHz 3.06 GHz
RAM 4GB (3.86 usable)
64-bit Operating System, x-64-based processor

Video Card is Asus GPU Tweak STRIX-GTX750Ti

Hope that is of more help
Thanks so much
Ness

You might try checking out whether your system can run this game here... The 4 GB of RAM is pretty puny as is that Core i3. But I don't know enough about the game to tell for sure. The recommended system requirements are definitely higher than your specs with the exception of the video card.

Can You Run It?

I did find this thread about someone having no problems with chapter 1 and 2, but having issues with chapter 3 which was resolved by redownloading.

Draclvr is right as usual. 4gb of ram will barely handle windows, let alone anything else also running.

Probably the best solution is to try adding memory to the computer.
Marian is probably right about the new Unity 5 game engine having higher requirements.
I don't know if the problem is Unity itself or whether the game is poorly optimized at this point.
The Nvidia GTX 750 Ti video card is more than the game requires and probably has at least 2GB of its own discrete video memory, but the game engine may not be taking full advantage of the video card.

The specs for Dreamfall Chapters currently listed at ***Steam*** list a minimum of 3GB of system memory, though they recommend 8GB.
If you check ***an archived version of the Steam page from last year***, it lists 4GB as the recommended requirement.
The change to 8GB may be due to the change in the game engine.
Note that the processor requirements aren't any different between the archived webpage and the current webpage.

In all likelihood you can add memory to your computer without much problem, though if you don't have empty memory slots on your motherboard, you may have to replace all the memory. Adding a faster processor (like an i5) would be more work and is probably not the problem since the requirements at Steam don't show a faster processor on the current webpage as opposed to the older one.

Your computer does meet the minimum specs, but the listed minimum requirement for memory may not be accurate any more.

You may also find that Chapters 1 and 2 don't work as well as they used to, since they've apparently changed the engine from Unity 4 to Unity 5 on the older Chapters in the latest update.

Memory requirements for Windows have not increased since Vista.
1 GB memory is the minimum for 32-bit Windows Vista, 7, 8, and 10, though 2GB of system memory is recommended for 64-bit Windows.

4GB of system memory is plenty for older games, AGS games, and casual games. I'm still using a laptop with Vista and 2GB of memory for casual games. But some of the the newer games, especially those using the latest 3D game engines, will require more than 4GB to run smoothly.
