More Tom Swifties.(For example "I'll have a martini," said Tom, drily.) As ever, grovelling apologies for any re-runs Some of these are very clever and quite tough, so being all heart, I've given you first letter and length as a starter · As ever, an asterisk represents a "real" hyphen. One answer each for first 24 hours, please. -1. "My chicken's gone bald," said Tom, c------------. -2. "I've stopped treading the boards," said Tom e---------. -3. "My cloning experiment was a success," said Tom, b----- h------. -4. "If you want to be a builder, I'll help all I can," said Tom c-------------. -5. "My cruise departure has been moved from Liverpool to Southampton," Tom r-------. -6. "Someone's killed Polly," said Tom, d----------. -7. "I'm really good at soccer," Tom d-------. -8. "It will be decided for me whether to play golf or go see Hamlet," Tom f-----------. -9. "It's not sodium hydroxide," Tom l---. -10. "This is a boring argument," said Tom p----------.
To waste one second of one's life is a betrayal of one's self. I wonder what's on television...?

I thought that too, Bob - nice solve, CCB Lex, Bob - see where you going to, but nope Lex - what sort of animal often bears the name Polly? Bob - a short word for "argument" might help...
