Oh, dear... you didn't need to uninstall Windows 10 as it had not installed. Your screen said it was ready to download - that's all. What you needed to do was cancel the download. I don't know what you did to cause documents to not be available. But I would strongly suggest a system restore. There is a thread here in the Glitches forum with some suggestions about how to avoid the Windows 10 upgrade. http://www.gameboomers.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/1066848/Windows_10_Mandatory?#Post1066848Should Windows 10 somehow become downloaded and installed - a process which takes some time - you do not UNINSTALL. You have 30 days to revert back to Windows 7 if you choose.

Thank you for your information. Windows had actually started to install a few days ago after persistent reminders it was available, (whether I bumped a key by mistake or ?) and because there was no option to get out of it I restarted the laptop, then it was "gone". Then today, the screen showed the "ready to install" screen. That is when I went to programs and saw Windows 10 as one of the programs in the list, and right clicked to uninstall. I will take a look at the link to restore. The problem with Windows 10 "moving in" is although I run Windows 7 just fine, someone told me that my (older) laptop would not handle Windows 10. So if by restoring, 10 does install, I may find my laptop with other issues...or if - with any luck only the same "ready to install" appears maybe I can follow the correct instructions and take it off the right way. Thank you very much for your help. I am going now to see the restore link. I do not think I have a restore point...how do I find out? If it is a manual thing to do, then I have never set one up... also, if any of the instructions say to go to "file", as in a Word document, I can't open any of the documents to access that. The other thing maybe worth mentioning is that the word doc icons are still there on the desk top and the error message says that the file may be damaged or unsupported. Sorry if I have not explained very well...

No one posted a link about how to use System Restore. But if you don't know how to do it, there are instructions here http://www.wikihow.com/Use-System-Restore-on-Windows-7I posted two links about how to undo a Windows 10 installation, which has nothing to do with System Restore in Windows 7. The links are for how to get back to Windows 7 if Windows 10 has already managed to install. If you want to prevent Windows 10 from installing, use this utility https://www.grc.com/never10.htmClick the green "Download Now" button on that webpage to download Never10. Then right-click Never10 and run it as an administrator.

In your first post, you said it was ready to download... I opened my laptop this am and found a Windows 10 screen ready to download. So, sorry I gave you wrong information! At this point - especially if you don't have any restore points - I would let Windows 10 install itself. It would be much easier to simply revert back to Windows 7 as long as you do it within 30 days. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/going-back-to-windows-7-or-windows-81Then use Jenny's link to stop this upgrade permanently. I also posted a link to the post where this was discussed. Good luck!

Let us know how it goes! If you don't have any restore points, then letting Windows 10 install and reverting back to Windows 7 should leave all your files intact.

Thanks for not giving up on my problem... I typed in the wrong information. duh. MICROSOFT got wiped out during the uninstall of Windows 10. My mistake. Sorry. Microsoft is no longer in the start up menu, nor is it in the task bar, and can not be found in a "search", so none of the documents are supported, and what I have left on the desk top are white icons/ghosts of my documents. I don't understand this either, why did Microsoft Office/Word disappear when the only item uninstalled was Windows 10? I installed Microsoft myself. I think I can use it again although some programs are a one time install... also, everything else I use seems to be ok. So it is just that Microsoft is gone. So far. The other thing to add is that Windows 10 had actually started to install (I did not tell it to - and there was no way to close it, cancel it - so I rebooted and saw that is was "gone". Not so because the next time I turned on the laptop, there it was again "installation interrupted". It was also already in the list of installed programs. Have not tried to restore yet. Still trying to figure out if 10 is too much for my older laptop.

As Jenny100 mentioned: Did Word come with the laptop? If so, it might be a trial version and Win10 might have wiped that out, if it is a purchased version on a DVD or On-line, then I would just re-install your Word and it should fix your problem of not being able to open your Doc files and your walkthroughs.

You say Microsoft got wiped out... Microsoft what? MICROSOFT got wiped out during the uninstall of Windows 10 Oh, wait - just re-read your post. Do you mean Microsoft Office got wiped out or uninstalled? You could NOT have uninstalled Windows 10 since it has never been INSTALLED. Besides you cannot uninstall an operating system. Are you sure you didn't see Office 2010 or something like that and uninstall it instead? I'm sort of confused here - not a long trip most days! Do you have your disk for Microsoft Office? If so, you should be able to reinstall it.

I hope it was the MS Office Word that got wiped out and like you Draclvr, not the OS. Confused? Me, I am getting there...

The Windows 10 OS couldn't have been UNinstalled since it was never INstalled.

This is the most bizarre thing I've ever heard of! Windows 10 is not a program or feature - it is an operating system - so finding it listed there is utterly bizarre. You can't uninstall an operating system either, so that makes it doubly bizarre for it to be listed there! You definitely had some strange things going on with your computer.
I have a feeling your problems started when you did the hard shut down/force quit during the installation. If the installation had started and you did that, I'm surprised you didn't completely hose the system. Maybe you caught it before it actually started.
However, it does sure sound like you uninstalled your Microsoft Office though. Do you have the disks? If so, just reinstall it.
Do make sure you follow Jenny's link to make sure this doesn't happen again though. And if for some reason the Windows 10 install starts again, just let it finish. You can use the link I provided to roll it back to Windows 7.

It does sound like you uninstalled Microsoft Office 2010. Are you able to reinstall it from a disc? If it actually said "Windows 10" or "Microsoft Windows 10" in your (Add/Remove) Programs, it sounds like you have a serious registry problem with things being renamed to something else. I haven't been able to find any other instances where Windows 10 showed up in anyone's (Add/Remove) Programs. It's unlikely you got rid of the Windows 10 installation files because Microsoft puts them in a hidden folder. The stinking thing will probably try again in the future unless you do something to stop it. Be sure to install Never10 so nothing like this happens again. You can download it directly from https://www.grc.com/files/never10.exebut you may want to look at the download page at https://www.grc.com/never10.htmbecause it has information and pictures of what you'll see when you run it. Not only will Never10 make Windows 10 back off, it will get rid of the hidden Windows 10 folder.

What do you mean by Microsoft? I think this is part of what confused me - you kept referring to "Microsoft." Do you mean Microsoft Office? I would ignore everything in Control Panel, find that disk and reinstall Office. If nothing else, it will do a repair install.
