(Tom is taking a short break whilst I trawl the highways and byways of the Web to replenish his stock. All contributions welcome. I promise not to reveal the source of the really awful ones... ) More Tom Swifties.(For example "I'll have a martini," said Tom, drily.) As ever, grovelling apologies for any re-runs Some of these are very clever and quite tough, so being all heart, I've given you first letter and length as a starter · As ever, an asterisk represents a "real" hyphen. One answer each for first 24 hours, please. -1. "My gender-reassignment surgery is reversible," Tom r---------. -2. "I used to be a member of the fourth estate," Tom e--------. -3. "Drinking beer from bottles is an expensive way of doing it," Tom said c------. -4. "I dropped my mould over the balcony," said Tom, d-------. -5. "My bank balance never seems to increase," said Tom, n---------. -6. "I've finally learnt to stand up straight," said Tom l---------. -7. "Imagine a large artificial breeze," Tom f---------. -8. "There have been several famous men named Ulysses," Tom g------. -9. “The Ents’ medicine restored our health after our battle with the Orcs,” said Tom t-----------. -10. "There's a danger that that Raymond Burr lawyer series will be axed," said Tom p---------.
To waste one second of one's life is a betrayal of one's self. I wonder what's on television...?

Two excellent answers, but neither of them mine manxman - you've got the gist of it OK, but the answer's a past participle, not an adverb niteowl - I can't fault it, except for the fact it's not mine. Think of other ways of expressive the concept of "negative"...

Yes, number 1 appealed to my childish sense of humour! CC - great solve! OK, hints for the other two: 4. If something was dropped over a balcony, in which direction would it go? 5a - should really have had an apostrophe in it. Mea culpa - now corrected 5b - Tom was mystified, baffled, bewildered, confused, uncertain as to why his balance has not increased.
