Adventures are my first love and RPG's my second - and then I play Casuals when I want a kind of respite because they don't tax the brain too much !! So do you play other genres Reenie, to give yourself a greater challenge

Yes, I have tried several genre over the years, although I have never played strictly combat or RPG games. Don't like the stress and don't like the slaughter, even if it is only a game. I have played a couple simulation/strategy games that involved no combat. They last for months. Enjoyed everything about them. Mostly, though, I have played Adventure games. They also are my first loves. I cut my teeth on the original Myst a couple of decades back, and am one of those who fondly remembers it still (I have it on my shelf, in all its 4 floppy-disk glory ~ ) I have played almost all the Adventure games that came along since Myst. Loved the Zorks, the subsequent Myst-clones, early games like The Dig and Blade Runner. Played both of the Lost Crowns, the Syberias, Gray Matter, the Runaways and Monkey Islands, the Gabriel Knights and Tex Murphys, Riven, Amerizone, the Dark Falls, Longest Journey, and lately, the Unwritten Tales games, and ~ well, just stop me. I could never list them all. ha ha I think the last game I played was The Next Big Thing. I began to move away from Adventure Games when they kept introducing reaction-time, arcade elements and began to feature so much horror and gore. I never got past the tutorial for Dreamfall, for example, because the wonky camera angles and need to learn kick-boxing techniques are NOT my thing. I am not attracted to fighting and gore. The former causes too much stress and I get chest pain; the latter is just that - horror. No interest in horror at any point, in any game. These two personal issues prevent me from buying about 80% of the games out there. I used to buy a new game the minute it came out, but no longer do that. I wait a while to hear the comments and problems people have about them. I am going to play Tesla next. The Casual Games aren't a good deal for your money, given what they cost and the few hours they last, compared to a standard Adventure game that may cost more but last a month or two, and have replay value as well. So I only buy the Casuals when they are on sale. Even then, they still aren't a good deal, but they fill in the blanks in those long dry periods between issues of Adventure games that suit me. I play a Casual Game about every two weeks, keeping an eye out for certain series that do a better job than others, like A Thousand Doors, Lost Lands, Ameranthine, the MCFs, and Wanderer. 90% of the casual games are silly, repetitive, cartoony, dwell on horror or are too easy, so that keeps you from spending too much money on them!

Reenie If you enjoy Myst games, and haven't already played it, maybe you would like "Quern: Undying Thoughts". [I think it was released at the end of last year.] I am currently playing it and despite definitely NOT being a big Myst fan, I have to admit I'm enjoying it. And it is certainly one that taxes the old grey cells !!

Well we differ there, Reenie. I enjoy puzzles but want them to be incorporated into a story
