I did a quick search of the site to see if this has come up before, but didn't find any hits: when I view a Gameboomers walkthrough, the images are missing and I can't seem to get them to download. I'm using the Brave browser...do I have a setting that prevents seeing the images?

Did you check to see if you are having this issue with images on any other sites, or is it just GameBoomers?

I googled "webpage images not showing up on Brave browser," and did see a few suggestions in terms of settings to check. Maybe you could try that and see if it yields anything useful?

Another thing I found while googling was someone on another website who was asking this question: "Anyone else having difficulty with gameboomers.com loading images in their walkthroughs?" They did not get any real answers, though. The post was about four months old.

Hopefully someone else will be along who knows more about such things (I know very little).

Thanks for your suggestions, Marian. I did try some things based on your recommended web search but nothing helped. I wonder if it is a Gameboomers web site issue, because I cannot see images when using Brave browser, Edge browser, or my Android phone's browser. Specifically, if you have time could you check to see if you can see images for The Longest Journey walkthrough (the third one listed)? Maybe there are some outdated image links?

Ergggo, I've run across a couple of walkthroughs here where the links are broken. I checked and that particular one is one of them. It's not you; it's the broken links.

I didn't have time to do much checking as we are leaving in a few minutes. But I did try in Firefox and then I DID see the images! I'll do more investigating later on today when we get home.

Yup, I could see them when I switched to Firefox from Edge. I'm using my cell phone right now, so can't check Edge settings until we get home.

I can see images with my SlimBrowser and with Firefox also, tried Edge and nothing, not even the writing.

And THANK YOU, oldbroad for posting about seeing everything on Firefox! I was just so hurried this morning that I only tried Edge. We just got home and I've fed all the critters, so let me do some checking around about Edge.

OK. I've been all over the settings in Edge and read numerous posts about linked images not showing up. I turned off my Adblocker and added Gameboomers specifically to the "show images" setting. No change. So, I went to Mystery Manor and tried several walkthroughs and screenshots that are linked images there. They were all there in Edge and in Firefox.

I checked my recent reviews from flotsam. Those images are linked to Gameboomers through our HTML software. Those all work.

I'll do more poking around, but the only place I'm having issues with viewing linked images using Edge is Gameboomers.

I'm going to post in a new thread to make sure this gets seen. I have spent quite a bit of time trying to figure this out, but have come up empty handed. Ergggo, it makes sense that your Android browser doesn't work as they use Chrome and Edge is now Chrome-based. I'm not familiar with Brave.

I have searched and posted on the MS forum, but have no answers. I've tried every setting in Edge I can with no help. I can see all the linked images in the Reviews in Edge. It's only the Walkthroughs where I cannot see images. I've bumped this up to admin and I'll let you know.

In the meantime, Firefox works just fine for displaying the linked images in the Walkthroughs.

Thanks again for researching this. Two quick comments:
1) Brave is a Chrome-based browser, so Chrome may be the root of the issue as you mentioned.
2) Be careful when the internet advice is to first clear your browser cache. I had quite a long Wordle streak that got zeroed out after I cleared the browser cache per the advice I read. It will be a long time before I can repeat that streak!

And after discussing this in the staff room, I discovered that this is a known issue that has been worked on for some time. There is only one solution and that is to go into each and every walkthrough and change the path of the images. In the intervening many years, some browsers have changed their rules and we are a bit of a dinosaur. So, if you want to see the images, you will have to use Firefox.

Short answer: depends on your privacy settings.. For the Brave Browser, the shields up setting indeed blocks some gameboomer walkthrough images. If you change to shields down and refresh the website the images appear.

Longer comment:

Since I mostly use strict tracker blocking it turned out the images are invisible for me too.
Like this screenshot from the Riven walkthrough which I recently had to visit. This with Firefox browser on Windows 11, security setting to strict.
You can see that images are missing. For me it looks similar-ish on Firefox, Edge and Brave browsers.. They all block those images.

I don't know why the shields react on those images, perhaps some script is used to show the image or increase some counter or something.
Since gameboomers is a nice website it's probably not dangerous to lower your shield here, but I like it here so I'm biased.

The image below is hosted on my site. I will probably remove it after some time. Then you won't be able to see it regardless of shield / security setting.

Thanks, Fogfighter, choosing Shields Down on the Brave browser worked for me and allowed me to see the walkthrough images (thought I tried that first, but maybe I forgot to reload the walkthrough).

Thanks also Draclvr for the Wordle link. Turns out that link shows how to reset your Wordle link to zero, not how to restore your streak. But it's not a big deal, Wordle still shows the longest streak and I'll just mentally add the current streak to the longest streak (until I do actually break the streak).

Thanks so much Fogfighter. Changing my browser settings in Edge from Balanced to Basic, didn't help. But I wouldn't think of using a browser like that anyway. Guess you could always just change the setting if you needed to see the pictures.

And, OOPS! That was the wrong link I gave you to get your Wordle stats back! I was able to do it after clearing my browser cache, but I have a NYT account, so they were still there. If you do not have a NYT account, they will indeed be gone forever. This is what I did to get my stats back...

Click on the “?” (question mark) icon at the top right corner of the screen.
The “How to play” pop-up should appear, check the bottom of this window.
Click on “Looking to load your saved stats? Log in here.”

Frankly I never tried to make the images visible in Edge. As you say that's not the favourite browser. Though I do use it ocassionally I won't bother to try to find a solution for Edge. I guess we can suggest really desperate Edgy adventurers to try the Firefox (or Brave) with shields down.

I'm with you, Fogfighter! If I really want to be able to see pictures, I'll just use Firefox!
