Half a bottle of advil and maybe just as much gravol later, I'm done. Personally, I thought it was generally pretty good overall (the puzzles were great, the characters well developed, and the voice acting was good) BUT: - I didn't feel like I was playing a Sherlock Holmes game. It was more like "Lupin's Scavenger Hunt." A genuine scavenger hunt, to be sure, and Holmes had to "play-along" to catch Lupin at the end, but I didn't want to do it. He did. I wanted to punch that french artist and rip that disguise off of him the moment I laid eyes on him. heh.
- For once, I felt like I was AHEAD of Holmes. Usually when I read a SH story he's always ahead of me.
- The only evidence left around were a whole lot of footprints.
- We didn't get the use the lab ONCE. Not ONCE.
- There were lots of locations on the map but we only get to go to a very small number of them, which is a kind of a letdown after seeing all those names on the map.
- We never got to meet "the other guy" aka the man in the workboots.
- Holmes was in his element in the very END of the story, but not before. :/
on the other hand: - The puzzles were, frankly, AWESOME. All the hints are there, and aside from a few "where the heck is that supposed to be" moments, I didn't have to consult a walkthrough.
- It was nice to see the interactions between Holmes/Watson/Lestrade.
- Holmes tells such great stories!
- The map/teleport system is very nice. I'd have given up halfway into the game if I can't teleport.
I very much miss the Silver Earring. I still think that was the best Frogwares game. I'd even grin and bear the timed maze in the forest! Your thoughts?

I really enjoyed the game. I thought that Holmes was as sharp as ever. I think it was meant to test him against another great mind and therefore he was supposed to be portrayed as an equal of sorts till the end. My absolute favorite part was gathering the clues from the paintings. That was brilliant! Ana

Hi all, I agree with you that Sherlock Holmes in the silver earring was the best of all the sherlock holmes,it was so much fun interviewing all the suspects. Next is a older Sherlock Holmes, the rose tatoo I never forgot that game, because I was able to solve it without any walkthrough. I love using the lab equipment and no offense to England but I really don't have much of a motive to solve a crime just so they will not be embarassed. So I think I will pass on this game and wait for the next murder mystery of Sherlock Holmes that uses the lab equipment and hopefully will also use the transport system for the map. ............................................................. Update, sorry this message posted twice because I did not know it sent. Yikes! not sure how to delete one and not the other. Sorry Mods, please delete the other post.

Sally that is funny. Some of the things you listed as Not Liking were some of the very things that I really liked! I have only played the mummy one, The Awakened, and this one with this one being my favorite.

L4L, you ABSOLUTELY MUST pick up SH the Silver Earring! MUST! It was by far (aside from the really old ones that won't install in my xp puter) the best SH game. It was very much classic SH story / clues / etc with plenty of sleuthing. There was one timed forest maze and a couple of stealth scenes, but it wasn't impossible. (Broken Sword 4 I'm looking at you) And the story is good enough that even I, the hater of mazes, played it twice.
I couldn't get through Awakened - at the time the comp wasn't too up to it and it was choppy, and add that to the FPS controls = nausea.
P.S. It must be an internet hiccup. I double posted today too!
