The Whispered World: First Screenshots and Details RevealedThe first screenshots from Daedalic Entertainment’s upcoming adventure game The Whispered World reveal the game’s amazing world. The pictures grant a first glimpse of locations and characters from the fantasy point & click game, set for release in the 4th quarter of 2008. For the screenshots, click here.Protagonist Sadwick is a young clown, travelling a fairy tale world with his family’s circus. But he is in no laughing mood and on a disappointing search for meaning in his life. One night, a mysterious form speaks to him in a dream and sends him on perilous journey. Many challenges await Sadwick, for the world he knows so well is doomed...
In the vein of classic adventure games, gamers direct Sadwick and his constant companion, a little worm named Spot, through the gorgeous backdrops of the game world. Hand-painted backgrounds filled with animated details and lovingly crafted characters in the style of classic animated films bring the story to life. The Whispered World meshes fairy-tale elements with melancholic undertones to create an epic fantasy story. There's a teaser here, and hopefully there will be more info at this site soon. (Note: this is a publisher based in Germany that publishes worldwide -- I'm hoping to find out more about the English language version.)

Well, that first screenshot is a bit gruesome for me so it doesn't pique my interest, the second is somewhat better and might interest me, the third screenshot does grab my attention, so I will be interested in learning more about the progress of this game! But I'm not all that sold on it yet, like I'm waiting for more fun fantasy and less darkness.
To love is to be happy with!

Sure looks interesting...just wondering if melancholy interprets to heartwrenching when I play. I cried crocodile tears during Toy Story. I do love the screenshots though. Ana

Ditto about the heartwrenching, Ana - I'm hoping for a happy ending! I think the shots look wonderful - thanks Becky, great views!

OK, about "gruesome" -- I had to go back and check it out again, but to me it looks like something icky or weird is rising up out of the pit, whatever it is it gives me the creeps. It could be just a dead tree with Spanish Moss hanging down from the branch that is sticking up in the air, I suppose. That wouldn't be so bad, but than again maybe it is some kind of monster-type of thingie! Until I know more about this game I'm on the sidelines.

I've heard back from Daedalic, the game's publisher. They are currently in talks with a publishing partner to distribute the game worldwide, including an English language version. They are hoping that, if everything goes according to plan, the English language version will also be released as part of the worldwide release in the fourth quarter of 2008.

Those are gorgeous! Watercolor backgrounds - very nice. It's been so long since I played something hand-drawn and not computer generated.

So DragonFish, I went back and looked at the screenshots AGAIN because you interested me when you said it looked to you like it might be a broken bridge that might need fixing! Now that never occurred to me but thinking that way does make it much less gruesome looking and a whole lot more interesting to me, too. So now you have me thinking that this might be a good game for me to try after all. Not only that, but after checking out that whole scene once more, I find that little clown is growing on me as a nice character to play even though I do not like clowns. I'm okay with Spot though, who looks more caterpillar-y to me than worm-y.
