As we all know adventure games is the type of game with the most wonderful soundracks... We have heard so many good works over the years... Some people don't pay much of attention to this particular part of the game but i do and i even get excited when i hear a good one... Do you feel the same way? I think i like most the classical and chorus themes... The first that comes in mind is from Myst Revelation... Which do you remember? smile

Dreamfall. There's some luscious and very moving music in this game.

I think one of best and most carefully chosen soundtracks was in "Faust: Seven Games of the Soul." It contained an excellent combination of well performed Classical music and elegant jazz selections.

I remember the music from Faust! But weren't the tracks looped so that the same piece of music played over and over through a particular section? That drove me a little nutso. (But I agree in general that the music was great.) smile

That's quite a list Jenny100... I'll agree with Syberia and Monkey Island... There should be selling those things on a CD... Does anybody else has that strange desire?

I won't speak the obvious, no! laugh

I do remember the amazing soudtrack in
* Legend of Kyrandia
* Betrayal at Krondor (rpg, sorry)
* Monkey Island
* Prey, I've heard very very good things
* I can't help but mention bioshock! Yes, it's not an adventure, I hope you won't kill me or something (:D) but the soundtrack is simply stunning! A hommage to all contemporary classical music! Simply stunning!

Heh... I'm an old guy, why are you puzzled with the 90s games I mentioned...

A word from the professional thumbsup. You did a very good job Nicolas...

I don't think you are that old Nicolas but i haven't heard any of the games you mentioned except Monkey Island

Thanks Volcana blush

Legend of Kyrandia should be... abandonware by now. It is an adventure, from Westwood (I think) studios. You should check it out. It's the first adventure that introduced the 1 cursor for everything. Click here you talk, click there you take something, click elsewhere you walk. No different cursors or the coin system, etc. Beautiful low resolution graphics and actually very interesting music for midi.

Betrayal at Krondor has unique music and was a great game for the time, if you enjoy rpg games. Great story, photographic graphics actually (which for the era was almost phenomenal! 91-92 I believe) and very... uninspired gameplay in all honesty (at least for me. I'm not a critic!) Again should be an abandone ware. Created by Dynamix, if not mistaken, a company under the big all mighty Sierra at that time.

Prey is still for sale I believe.

And MI you know. wink

I'm 30 and I have gray hair and 2 kids (4 and 2 1/2 years old!) Maybe not amazingly old, but in most forums I do feel slightly older...

Nikolas, you're way younger than a lot of us, so easy on that "old". And I mean waaaay younger! lol
My favorite adventure soundtrack is the magnificent Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Father (first Gabe game).
Fav all genre is Divine Divinity/Beyond Divinity (RPG) which you can purchase as a CD, and best main theme goes to Zanzarah (hybrid).
A more recent game with great music is Dead Reefs.
I sure do notice the music in a game Volkana, and it really adds to the pleasure of playing for me.

In some games the music is so annoying that i reduce the music sound from the options menu and if i can't from there i do it from my PC... But some of them are just masterpieces...
I do like when the music is similar with the story for example in Discworld Noir game that jazz (noir movie) theme was really something... and in Monkey Island series that comic pirate theme... smile

Nikolas, we do not support abandonware here. Unless the developer officially releases their game as freeware, it is still considered illegal to download.

You can get Legends of Kyrandia Here on Amazon.

I think my favourites are GK1 & GK2 - there's also another game that had a soundtrack which I loved - just can't remember what it was! lol I think many games have great soundtracks that suit the games perfectly but tend to be used more subtly in the background than the ones I've mentioned, so they're appreciated throughout the game but not so well remembered. It would be good to have a CD of game themes published! smile

Games that are no longer supported or sold from the companies or copyright holders! That is the generic definition... For the rest head over to wiki I guess...

Ana: I didn't even link anything. I mean woah!

I would liked that too... I usually search the official sites if they have a link or a download to get the soundtrack but there are very few...

I'd have to say Shivers 2, because it was part of the puzzles.
However, I did burn the Gabriel Knight music (my favorite is the theme from GK 3) to listen to in the car smile .
And, maybe because it's my favorite game ever, I think the background music from Riven is very evocative and atmospheric.

Volkana -- here's an explanation of abandonware.

From wikipedia:
Quote:
...the line separating abandonware from software piracy (or warez) is blurry, and the term abandonware could be used to distribute software without proper notification of the owner.

Nikolas -- in your previous post you actively encouraged our members to "check out" abandonware. Didn't you?

I don't know about the game itself, but I agree with you about the soundtrack. I got the soundtrack at the Quest Studios website, which as far as I can tell is completely legal. You can get many old Sierra soundtracks there
http://queststudios.com/sierra/sierra1.html

I notice the soundtrack for the AGD Interactive VGA remake of Kings Quest 2 is available there. That was another good soundtrack.

Volcana. Here is another quote from wiki:

hmm... A different quote than the one that Becky quoted...

Hmm... differernt quotes, none complete from the source. Hmmm... different meanings.

NO! I didn't encourage anyone! By saying that something might be abandonware the last thing that I would call it is actively encouraging.

In case someone didn't know it: I WORK in computer games, make music for computer games. The last thing I want is to support any kind of piracy, or any other kind of blurry.

In all, once again: relax. Just because a word was mentioned, it doesn't mean that I'm the evil king of torrentz or anything. Unless the word torrents will also be taken as actively proposing to people to go there... :-/

Lastly.

Yes, Betrayal at Krondor had EXCELLENT music. I have the original game (8 3 1/4 disks I think!) and I kept playing the game, but I'll check the link once I find a few minutes.

EDIT: I checked the link. all tracks are there. That website is a treasure trove! laugh
