Hi LindaMarion -- when Dreamfall first shipped two years ago, many of us played it and struggled with the controls until we figured out how to set the controls to make movement easier. You can see the suggested control settings in the GameBoomers First Look at Dreamfall here (scroll down to the bottom of the page). Even with these easier settings, some gamers still have trouble with the movement, though I agree that it's much easier after tweaking the settings! I have always thought it odd that the game seemed to have default settings that were aimed more at console gamers than at PC gamers.

Hi becky thanx - i didnt realise it was so old.i only bought it 2 month ago.i find it very very much easier using that way but what i find funny is keeping my left finger all the game pressed down on the "w" key on my keybourd.its not difficult but seems all wrong somehow why they did not include that in the interface? benedict Try using a wireless Xbox controller for windows. but i havent got got such a controller and i think many of us dont use consols at all.it w3as supposed to be a pc adventure game like the longest journey wasnt it?

Linda -- I no longer have the game on my hard drive to actually check it, but I'm pretty sure that there is a way in the Options menu to use the "W" key to move forward and the mouse to pan around as you move forward, which means that you just move the mouse around in order to change direction. This way you really only need to use the other letter keys if you somehow run right into something and get stuck. I think that's what you're describing.
I don't know why the manual doesn't recommend this configuration, and I also don't know why it isn't the default (the way the game would be played WITHOUT having to mess around in the Options menu). The only explanation I can think of is that Funcom for some reason thought that more console gamers than PC gamers would be playing the PC version, so they left the interface defaults set for console gamers.
Another thought is that Funcom assumed that adventure gamers would be able to figure out the complicated Options menu when console gamers wouldn't? But that still doesn't explain why they (apparently) left an explanation about this out of the manual!

Hi all, I've started to play Dreamfall today and don't find the controls that bad at all - maybe because I've played games with similar controls before (shooters, RPG and such). It's all a matter of getting used to it; initially, I wanted to use the gamepad but for some unknown reason it just won't respond. Oh well. W-A-S-D and mouse works fine once you get the hang of panning the camera with the mouse. Also, you don't need to remember all the keys for actions because you can happily click away when fighting - also a feature borrowed from shooters/RPGs, I think
Shiny.
