Hello to all,

I really enjoy movies that are set in the 1930's and 40's, and I was just wondering if anyone knew of any adventure games of that genre where the story and scenes are from the 1930's and or 40's.

Thanks

Secrets of Atlantis: The Sacred Legacy

Undercover: Operation Wintersun

All the Agatha Christie games are set in about that time period.

Also, Discworld Noir and Grim Fandango might qualify. They have that 30's aura, even if one is set on another planet, and the other is set in the Land of the Dead. grin Discworld Noir is an older game that's rather hard to find, though. Grim Fandango is also older, and it can be problematic to get it to run on the latest computers.

Another idea -- Time Stand Still. It takes place in the current day, but the detective investigates a mystery from the 40s.

Dracula 3 is set in the 1920s.

Black Dahlia works on Windows XP; Noir does not.

Discworld Noir plays perfect on my XP. I never had any troubles at all.

Another good one! For anyone who is interested, The Goat in the Grey Fedora is a freeware game that can be downloaded (or played in a browser) here.

The minor glitches I encountered with Discworld Noir I believe occurred only with the re-released version. If anyone does encounter them there are easy workarounds mentioned in the review I linked to above.

DEATH ON THE NILE

Hi Becky, I hope I'm doing this correctly, but you mention the Agatha Christie games, and I love that period, too. My problem here is that I've just purchased Death on the Nile, but I don't even see it on GB's "upcoming games" list. Am I missing something?

BTaylor, Death on the Nile is a casual hidden object game that came out over a year ago (maybe 2?). It is not an adventure
game.

Hi BrownEyed,

Thank you!

You learn something every day. Darn! I wish I'd realized that. First time I've heard of that term. Obviously, I was missing something.

Hi BrownEyed,

I'll try that.

BT (who just finished Keepsake [ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS], and am now playing Nikopol. Not sure about it).

I liked the Cameron Files, both set in the 30/40's. Both work on my XP. I think Dave at interact has them. Both Lock Ness and Curse of the Pharaoh, both good games.

Hi SSGamer,

I like those too. I was playing them then on Windows Me, I haven't tried on XP, but so far it's been pretty tolerant. I'm glad to hear they play on it. I loved the Scottish setting of the 2d Cameron Files game.

BT (Just starting Murder in the Abby; just finished Nikopol)
