I have just completed it and my irritability issues are subsiding at last. It seems other people LOVED it!, so I'm feeling inadequate. I completely depended on MaGs wonderful walk through and it shouldn't be like that. Repeated vocals drove me crazy and I was more than happy to

kill off the pompous, heavy breathing Inspector at the end
. I'm gonna wait for Mr Fisher's Last Half of Darkness episode with love in my heart.(I've got a cold so maybe I'm just extra grumpy!)

It wasn't my favorite either cris, you are not alone. In fact, I couldn't wait to play it and started the same day it released and I still have it half finished. The breathing made me want to turn off the sound, It seemed misplaced most times.

That's the one Darleen. I love Jonathon and his games, but this one fell short for me.
I am looking forward to the Last Crown.

frown If there is a lot of dialog & stupid breathing & couphing through out the game...

I will be disappointed...

I think I might have enjoyed the game a fraction better if the navigation (turning left or right) hadn't felt akin to struggling through a knee-deep pool of molasses. Seriously, I need free movement in a game or it ruins the whole experience for me. I've already commented on another thread about the repetition and lack of atmosphere, so I won't harp on, er, repetitiously. wink

Yep! At least I'll be able to sell it, with all it's fans. In fact I want it out of my house so that I can draw a line under that dark period of my life. (I did finish it so it couldn't have been that bad) (What am I saying...It was!) PS I just read the other replies and i'm not a freak. Woohoo!

I loved it. Much better than The Lost Crown.
Not quite as eerie as The Journal though.

I do agree about the movement around the screen. I found i had to be very careful and change direction slowly to prevent the game locking up.

This game was so long awaited and with so many expectations, I do hope some other people liked it as well as I did.

Ha! I got tired of his gasping for breath too.
I told him to shut up and stop breathing so many times...
Jon Boakes' previous games had much more subtle and effective use of sound and visuals.
The gasping for breath and screen shaking has gotten so corny. I'm surprised he used it.

I think I knew for sure that this game wasn't really in the same class with Boakes' previous games

Yes. That was one of my biggest complaints. It took so long just to click forward or turn around. That kind of thing really kills any incentive to explore or check objects in the game environment. And there was no way to turn off the unwanted jiggling effect that gave me a headache.

I was really looking forward to Lost Souls, but it never built up suspense or interest the way Jon Boakes' previous games did. The irritating screen movement, slow navigation, and kitchy horror effects killed any immersiveness it might have had. I hope this move toward Grade B horror is an aberration and not a new direction.

I am playing it and, up to now, enjoying it very much. I haven't had any problems with the navigation at all.

I might've missed several things if not for the WT because some of the "look" icons are not easy to locate, this is no good but it happens not too often.

I'm also playing it now it's not as scary as as I thought it was going to be,the breathing is very annoying. My opinion the first two games we're much more scarier scared wave

I may not have gone where I intended to go,but I think I have ended up where I need to be.

I really don't care for this game. To hard to navigate. Sorry I spent my money on it. I did love lost crown however.

I actually like it very much so far. Not surprised as I liked the other DF games, and loved Lost Crown. GUess I'm a Johnathan fanboy!
Only thing thus far I'm not crazy for with DF:LS is the VERY SLOW panning, which you cant adjust.
VERY atmospheric, spooky as all get out, nicely rendered graphics and superb sound, which is one of the hallmarks of Johnathan's games.
Just wish I could play it without having the DVD in the drive. Slows things down a bit.
Still,quite happy so far.

I was put off by the cost and decided to wait for a review. From the spoilers I can see this is not my type of game.

I loved Dark Fall and Dark Fall-Lights Out, but not Lost Crown. It was OK, but that's about it.

Guess I'll pass on Last Crown. Sorry Johnathan.

Ouch!
This game must be really bad for GB'ers to slam it so.
Does it have any merit?
I lost patience with Lost Crown because of the prolonged "to and fro" but was interested in this one........

I don't think anyone here is slamming it cazziejoe. There are some critiques and dissapointments but I certainly wouldn't call it slamming it.
I was disappointed in it, perhaps my expectations were unrealistic and the first Dark Fall set the bar so high that it is hard to beat. I will still be first in line for The Last Crown.

Hmmm, Except for the expense, I guess it is ok that the game wouldn't play on my computers. Thank you anyway, Tomco.

I have played Lost Souls several times and it still excites me, the heavy breathing should be there as the Inspector had been running, doesn't anyone know that your breathing is laboured under stress. I found the navigation very easy and uncomplicated, There is a moral to this game if you like to look deep into it, the Vodka and pills should have given you some clue as to what it is.
Click to reveal..
The Inspector took his own life with these, which I would say is suicide and the moral of the story is that Jonathan is against it
. And I shall still play it often, I'm 73 years old and this is still the best game out at the moment. Well done Jonathan for such a brilliant game with thought and imagination. June

Having the game waiting in the wings I was quite pleased to see that at least a couple of players really enjoyed it! smile But it was also good to read the more negative comments & also the review from Adventure Gamers - thank you for the link Marian thumbsup I found the first two games really difficult, especially the first, to get through without referring to a walkthrough too much! I'm looking forward to playing Lost Souls with an open mind! grin

I did think that my comments were a personal opinion, so I would not like to think that somebody would avoid this game on my recommendation. Thanks every one for not giving me a hard time. It's all about horses for courses, so go Chrissie, and may the fluffy kitten of pleasure travel with you.

After i ended Lost Souls i couldn't stop me from starting immediately anew.
That happens nearly never. Only with games from Jonathan Boakes and Scratches. I love games it when the game ist over but the story is still "working" inside me.
I'm very sorry to hear someone doesn't like the things i love so much, but on the other hand: thankfully the human beeings are so very different we will never end to amaze us one another. Makes life so wonderfull. thumbsup

I loved this game, am sorry to hear some folks were not happy with it for various reasons. My one negative thought was the lack of colour and missed it, although understand this all added to the atmosphere.
I will be playing it again as it was like all good books that I read, I miss some bits because I can't wait to get to the end and find out what happened.
Same for this game...just got to finish Tree of Life first... wave

Loved this game (loved Jonathan's other games too).
They all go on my very short list of games I replay regularly.
