Ok ...This is one of those games where you have to play it to see for yourself if you like it...

I find this game "Great" There is hardly no dialog which I like...No sea sickness..There is not much breathing at all..Except when the inspector is climbing or scared.. Its very scarey...The interface is ok... I can stand the slow clicking to another area...Only one thing I didn't like was you can't put things together in inventory...

I did have to learn that:
Click to reveal..
When you click on an area in darkness, and hear "Yum Yum" that means you need a flashlight lol
A Good game...I am enjoying it..

I enjoyed it and had to play a second time. I felt that the slow clicking fitted with the game. If I was in such a scary place, with danger all around, I would move slowly.

I didn't think he was saying "yum yum," I thought he was saying "Eayuh." But after I purchased and perused the Official Guide, it would appear that he is saying "Here."

The Inspector has that British accent, you know? Why can't they talk American like all sensible souls? grin

I am absolutely enthralled by this game. The positives of this game...and there are many (JB certainly KNOWS scary and atmosphere and is a master at creating creepy environments)...outweigh the negatives.
Which,in my opinion, are minor:
SLOOOOW panning (it's maddening at times)
INABILITY to speed up conversation-trees
Loved all of the DF games. This is my favorite thus far. Creepy as all get out. Masterful, really.
And Lost Crown is probably my favorite adventure game of all time. I've been playing PC adventures for almost 20 years,so I know what I like.
DFLS is right up there with the good ones.

It sounded like here (or 'ere) to me. Wasn't the "yum yum" a different sound?

My two pence...
The Lost Crown is still my favourite of Jonathan's games, but Lost Souls is my favourite Dark Fall, just ahead of Lights Out Director's Cut.
Perhaps the reason people do not like this one as much as the others is that it is less nostalgic. The other games have a very nostalgic charm, but this one is predominantly a modern feel.
It is also much darker. Rather than mystery and the unseen providing the creepy factor, Lost Souls is quite in your face with its scares. It visually depicts horrific scenes rather than just hinting at them in a diary or with an echo or thumping noise.
It seems more like a modern re-imagining of the original game than a direct sequel to me. As a result, I would put Jonathan's games into three groups: Dark Fall 1+2, Lost Souls, The Lost Crown
Yes, the noise is "here, here"!

What I mean is that I think I heard "yum yum" sometimes too, but most of the time I heard "here, here" when there was something to look at. So weren't they different noises?

I'd put each one in its own group because

Dark Fall 2 was more sci-fi than the first Dark Fall.

Hey Darleen03, If you have a video cam or a digital camera(usisng the video setting) than you can try to take video (you will get the sound also) while your playing the game. Then upload it to youtube and give us a link.

Hi Everyone ok here is the good things I liked about the game and the disappointing things.

First of all I love the fact I have no motion sickness I like to be able to move slowly. thanks Jonathan.

2. I love the interface and how we save the games without ever leaving the game, and so easy and unlmited saves.

3. I like the scary atmosphere and a few things when ghosts pop out at you I jump !

4. I like the way things seem to make sense thus far.

now my main complaint is I want more interaction with dialog I read where another GB likes the game for that reason, but for me it just doesn't hold my interest enough like in Lost Crown.

I had people I could talk to with personalities in Lost Crown it is still my favorite, I loved the ghost busting equipment in the house especially at night.

Maybe Jonathan will have more Lost Crown in the next one especially with random ghost hunting and we can all compare what we see. I always thought that would be fun to do.

The last complaint is the graphics were not anything to rave about, just medium in my opinion.

Reminds me of how I didn't like the save system. I couldn't tell the "Save" from the "Load" and had to look it up in the manual every playing session.

Plus, you had to scrollscrollscrollscroll right down to the bottom, through a myriad of screens, each time you made a new save. I'm a save nut, I make a lot of saves. This was a nightmare for me. lol

I feel I have to put in my two-cents worth too. I just started the game about two days ago with much anticipation. But, like the other posters, I found the navigation slow and the inspector's labored breathing annoying. It's enjoyable when you find something to inspect, but the finding is tedious and I find myself consulting the walkthrough far more than I'd like.
I am a big fan of Jonathan Boakes and consider The Lost Crown the best game I have ever played. I still have a lot of game to complete, so I hope my outlook improves. I want it to live up to the hype.
I do have to admit -- it is creepy and do find myself jumping at random times....

I have a different problem - I have lost one of the colored round pieces in room 1E, I only have 4, I am checking and rechecking the WT for the locations, I think I picked all of them but anyway I cannot see any in both times.

Any idea? headscratch I have a saved game but already has 4 pieces and another quite before that.

There's a fading echo effect to the "here" that does indeed sound a bit like "yum, yum" - if you're listening for it. I wouldn't have noticed it, but now I can't un-hear (un-here?) it. lol

The save/load interface seemed perfectly intuitive to me, and I never used more than a single slot, so scrolling didn't become an issue.

Speaking of 'scrolling,' yes, movement is somewhat slow, but wasn't any more annoying to me than, say, Scratches, and that game had free 360-degree panning.

As for the game itself, I'm kind of torn. I appreciate the attempt at more explicit horror (the darker tone is what had me most excited in the first place), but some of the audio cues/voices fell flat to me, too, as did the random "jump-out" (or rather, pop-up) scares. And the repetitious dialogue is grating. And the repetitious dialogue is grating.

When it does things right, it does them well (the upstairs hallways are deliciously eerie!). The new direction doesn't need dropping altogether, IMO, just refining.

Thanks Ana, I decided to replay all the part up to there and used the colored pieces before they could disappear.

Yep, the save/load scrolling was VERY annoying. I asked Jonathan about it before the interview, and he explained it was a limitation in Wintermute that he'd tried to get around, but it was unavoidable. That was my only gripe with The Lost Crown, waiting for the cards to spin around and fly about when you are navigating the menus to save a game.

I finished the game and I agree with the comments of the review. I didn't find the panning annoying though, I wouldn't move very fast myself in such environment whistle but turn around carefully. I wondered about so many scissors though, I looked for dream meanings and found that psychoanalytically scissors tend to point to the need of "mending" our life affected by issues of the past.
