Hi boomers :-) After all this years since we finished our game it finally came out in Germany with full localization (and beautiful new box and menu art). Many thanks towards Daedalic who picked our game, though about 3 years old already (oh yeah, now the game is marketed nearly longer that it has actually been in development :-D ) If you speak German (or you are actually German) you can give it a try. Here are first two reviews I have encountered so far. http://www.adventure-treff.de/artikel/tests.php?id=239http://www.adventurespiele.net/Reviews-req-showcontent-id-278.htm

Thanks, Tol! Looking forward to the game! Maybe next time we'll see on your signature - developing another adventure game. Well... I got this itch... Thanks for the news, Tol! Any idea if an English version will ever be released? I would love to play this game. I am very afraid (and sad for that matter) that there will be no more releases, this one should be the last one. But some versions have english voices (eg. italian, french, spanish) thus I believe it´s playable for english speakers too.

Aw, that's too bad. I was hoping there would be a release for the U.S. or the U.K. Those other versions with English voices make me somewhat hopeful, however. How difficult are they to get a hold of in the U.S.?

In my searching so far, I can't find any site that actually has it for sale

In my searching so far, I can't find any site that actually has it for sale It seems that Adventuregameshop has it also in digital distribution, maybe it will help. Italian version has english voiceovers. There are two places where the text in book is needed in the game but I can provide these texts translation on demand if needed :-) http://www.adventuregameshop.com/product_info.php?products_id=940

I went to investigate right away but I had forgotten my "password" for the Adventure Game Shop. On asking for an alternative password I was told I had successfully been sent one - but nothing has arrived and nor has anyone answered my email plea for help

Just wondering if the subtitles would be in English.mad, I'm having the same trouble as you. I just made a new account and signed out and signed in again and they have no e-mail or a password for my account. Finally got a e-mail from them. Thanks Richard

Hi kjos tol said : " Italian version has english voiceovers." So apart from some "unspoken" script, for which tol is willing to supply translation, it sounds OK, don't you think ?? Still no reply from the shop to me, yet I already have an account there. I just can't remember my password. And I don't want to have to acquire another email address purely to open another account there So I guess it's wait and see for a bit longer Cheers. Mad

Mad,why don't you create another account but use your old e-mail and the same password. Italian version has English voice overs, does that mean the subtitles are in English. Richard

I'm not sure what you are suggesting there, kjos ?? My current email address is already linked to a certain password on their site. And it's that password that I've forgotten. I can only use my current email address there now if I can remember that password - or - the shop sends me a replacement password. I've asked for a replacement password using the auto "forgotten my password" feature that they provide. But I haven't been sent one. And I haven't had a reply to my email asking why I haven't been sent one [I doubt any subtitles would be in English. Just the "spoken" word.]

Mad, I hope you are able to get things worked out! Does anyone know if this site accepts U.S. currency? I've never purchased anything from them before and am not really sure how things work there.

No, there's nothing from them in my In box or Spam box, kjos. I've kept checking. And yes, I've tried the auto "forgotten password" faeture a couple more times too, and each time I get the auto message back that a password has been sent to me [I've no idea how the site expects payment, venus, sorry.]

Unfortunately, it looks as though I won't either, and I would also love to play the game. Oh, well, I would prefer a disk version anyway. Perhaps the Italian version will be findable in that form at some point.

I've given up now .... If an English voiced over disk version ever appears for trade or sale - from a private individual or at trading site - I'll go for it. But otherwise that's it for me

Here I am! Sorry if I didn't answer before, my computer decided to kill itself, I've just formatted everything and I'm back online. So, I played Tale of a Hero and I enjoyed it very much, it was spoken in english with italian subtitling (I can't remember if you can turn the subtitling off, but I can ask to the italian publisher). I bought the game from Adventure Game Shop, they are very nice and professional, the only problem though I can see is that the italian version got all the in game captions in italian, and the same for all the objects in the game! So, be prepared with a translater italian/english, or alternatively send me a message and I will be happy to help! And, the people from the site are good friends of mine, any problems, just let me know and I will get in touch with them.

Venus, they normally accept Paypal, so you can pay in Euros with your Paypal dollars account (or you wanted to pay in another way?) I've just have a look and they have only 1 used hard copy of the game, otherwise it's digital delivery.

Thanks, Ana! Glad you got everything worked out, Mad! You'll probably be able to start before me. Let me know what you think. I am having trouble creating an account. Everything is in Italian, and I've been using Babel Fish, which is only somewhat helpful. I'm guessing that CAP means zip code and Localita means state, but I'm not sure. Does anyone know if this is correct? Also, I don't see any option to choose US as country. If anyone could help, I would really appreciate it. I would love to be able to play this game. EDIT: Also, I'm assuming it does, but I want to make sure that this game runs on Windows 7 64 bit?

Well done Venus! CAP is the zip code and localita' means City, State is "Stato" But if you click on the english flag on the top right, doesn't the site is in english?

Thanks, Carla! I have filled that part out now. Unfortunately, I don't see an English flag, and it was the first thing I searched for. Also, I don't see the option to select US as my country. EDIT: Never mind; I figured out how to create an account from a different page. Looks like I'm good now. EDIT 2: Looks like I spoke too soon. I was able to create an account without a problem, and it recognizes my password on that site. However, when I select "Download" for the game, it opens a new tab in Italian and asks for my password again. And it doesn't recognize it for some reason! I've tried several times just in case I typed it incorrectly, but it keeps refusing to work. Does anyone have any suggestions? This seems like an adventure game puzzle in and of itself.

Thanks, Carla! Yes, I created my account there, but when I select "download" from the Tale of a Hero page, it opens a new tab. This tab doesn't have any flags to change the language, and the sign in doesn't work for some reason. It won't accept my password. I'm not sure if I have to create another account, but I wouldn't think so. I would think that the area it directed me to is connected. Anyway, hopefully Carlo will have some answers.

Venus, I emailed Carlo, hopefully he will pop in and sort the problem out. UPDATED: Venus, I had a look at the FAQ, and I think you have to register twice because the download server is not handled by the same company Why the customer has to do a double registration? A double registration is requested because the digital delivery platform is run from Digital River and they manage all the digital part of Adventure Game Shop.

Thanks, Carla For all your help....But I am a little sceptical right now on the order... Seems too much trouble to get a simple download.... Hope a USA website gets this game in the future for download....

That would really be wonderful Tol! Please keep us posted, because we were already thinking to translate the text from italian to english, but if you guys will issue some kind of patch would be even better!

Thanks, Carla! Unfortunately, that leads me to the same problem I was experiencing before - how do I select my country? I don't see it on the list. Thanks, Tol, that would be great!! Yes, I agree with Carla, a patch would be even better. Now if I could just get the game itself.

You are right Venus, I tried in different way and I noticed that you can get Tale of a Hero only if you select Italy as your country, and doing that everything is in italian language. Carlo emailed me back and he said that tomorrow he will be here to answer any question, let's see if we can work out an easier way to get the game

I'm sure you'll get sorted, venus Carlo_AProd was immensely helpful to me once we were able to get in touch. [For some reason, I still don't receive the emails he sends but he's hoping to get that fixed too !!]

Thanks, Mad! That's great that Carlo was so helpful, and it gives me hope this will be sorted out. That's strange about the e-mails. Hope that part will be fixed as well! So, what do you think of the game so far? Have you started it yet?

Hi venus I went to "The Used Corner" on the site and bought the disk version that was there so I won't actually have the game for a while, yet. You'll probably be playing it long before me !! Cheers. Mad

Yes, I was very lucky, venus With it taking so long for me to even get into the site, I never thought that that single "used" game would still be available. But I decided to check anyway - and it was !! So I went for it

I just successfully placed a download order for 'Tale of a Hero' through the adventuregameshop website. It wasn't exactly easy though, heh. Basically once I created an account and then clicked the button to buy the game through download, it opened a new window to the Toomai.it website which is the download distributor site for the game I guess. I had to register an account with them as well. In order to select USA under country, I selected Stati Uniti d'America. Once the account is set up I just kept moving on to the next step and then selected pay by credit card and typed in my AMEX info. The site accepted everything, and I am currently downloading the game now.
Tol, if you could come up with a patch to address the Italian captions for in game descriptions and inventory, that would be wonderful for this English reader/speaker. Thanks in advance and looking forward to this game!

Hi Venus,
I'm sorry to say, but no I didn't see any way to pay via paypal. I would have liked to go that route as well, but the 3 options I saw were pay by credit card, european bank debit card, or some kind of european electronic bank transfer. My interpretation of that was a foreign purchase would have to be done with credit card.

Does this "No PayPal" only refer to buying the download for some reason ?? Because I bought my "used" disk version from the site using PayPal [Thank you, tol, for the confirmation that the patch is definitely going to happen ]

yes Mad, as far as I could tell, you need a credit card to purchase the dl of the game, unless one lives in Europe. You may have been able to use paypal within the adventuregameshop website, but once you click on the download version, a new window opens up for the Toomai.it site which I don't think takes paypal.

It's strange though because on the bottom right, among the logos of credit cards, there is Paypal logo too. Do you want me to ask them? If I write to them in italian maybe we got hopes to get a quick answer!

Venus, they are definitively taking Paypal. I was thinking that maybe I can create a series of print screens, a sort to how-to-do-it, if could help you to buy the game, what do you think?

Latest news: I made a try and I have to say that Lakerz was right, no Paypal option when you arrive at checkout, and this is despite what they say, that Paypal is accepted... I sent them another email, let's see what they have to say, but looks to me that they are all crying because of piracy or low sales, and when you want to buy something in a legit way they are making it basically impossible for you. I will keep you posted

Hi folks, just wanted you keep updated- seems we do have working patch that turns every texts etc. into english BUT won´t post it yet because now there is a bit of toil which is totally worth it on the other hand... I´m gonna edit texts according to Gatoraw´s great comments. She has volunteered for this time ago and did outstanding job which just can´t go wasted so if even after it there will be any misspells it would be only because of my tired eyes, inattentiveness or whatever

Good news about the translation. Unfortunately, unless something changes, it looks as though I won't be able to play it. Don't worry venus, we'll work out something to let you play! I'm still waiting for an answer from the italian downloading site, but I'm very good at "pestering"

OK, I found another site that got Tale of a Hero in digital download, same price, 14.90 Euros, and they take Paypal:I wrote to them yesterday and this morning they confirmed it. Obviously the site is in italian and you have to register in order to buy, if you like I can prepare some kind of "guide" to help you through the process.Someone else interested? THIS is the site.

OK, here's a basic walkthrough: go http://multiplayer.com/videogiochi/pc-windows/tale-of-a-hero-il-destino-di-un-eroe.htmland click on "scarica e gioca" (download and play) you will open a window now with the detail of your carrello (trolley), you must see the name of the game and the quantity, now click on "Prosegui" (means carry on, next) Now you have to insert your details: Tipo: Privato (you are a person not a company) Titolo: Sig=Mr Sig.ra=Mrs Sig.na=Miss Nome= Christian Name Cognome= Surname Indirizzo=Address CAP=Zip Code Localita'=Town,City Paese=Country for USA=Stati Uniti d'America E-mail Then tick the box close to"Dicharo di aver letto" basically it's a disclaimer Scegli la modalita' di pagamento=choose how to pay tick Paypal and then click on "Prosegui" you will be redirect to the Paypal page. I'm not sure but on the help page is written that if you pay by Paypal you will debited a further 4.90 Euros (!) and after you paid you must click on "TORNA ALL'ESERCENTE" (back to shop) and it's very important for you to do so in order to let the shop know that you have purchase a game At this point I had to stop because I played the game already and I don't want to buy it! If you decide to buy, after the payment you can send me a print screen of the game, or just copying what's written, and I will translate it.

Thanks, carla
Can I pay with just a credit card....I don't have paypal.. Yes, they accept Visa, Amex and Mastercard. Instead to tick the Paypal box, you tick the symbol of your chosen credit card. You will be redirected to a safe payment site, at this point in the right top corner you can choose english language clicking on the UK flag.

I Dar, I converted the price of the game to USD,€ 14.90 = 20.61117 U.S. dollars, and the price is different than yours. You got a pretty good deal. Richard

Darlene, unfortunately I don't know what happens after the payment because, as I said in my last post, I didn't do that stage. Now, tell me what happened after you paid:did you come back to the site? Did you click on "TORNA ALL'ESERCENTE" (back to shop) as I said?

Ok...I got three e:mails one with the serial number which is required to launch the game...
One e;mail had the download link..The page comes up ..You have to download (4) parts..
Save the files to your documents the after all the downloads you go to your documents to install the game...then you will be asked to put in the serial number...then your all set...
The game plays "Beautiful" The voice dubbing is in English ,and the script at the bottom is in Italian..
Thanks Carla, and Richard
The other e;mail is to confirm your payment ,and the amount..
Also to add..The second download is long like 35 minutes, and my transfer rate is 456KB/sec

I have been thinking and try to understand why the translater came up with the inverted figures, Richard. I think I know why: the translater probably thinks is a date, 14th September, and automatically translates it in September 14th! Darlene, whatever you need translated just let me know, "avanti" means forward, next.

When I got to the payment site...You click on the English flag, and everything is in english..
The first site if you click translate..You can't do anything at all...It just translates the language only...
You have to follow ,Carls's WT to get you to the payment site.

Well, it turns out that due to recent kitty cat expenses, I may have to hold out on purchasing the game for a little while. But at least I know there is a way to do it now, complete with walkthrough (thanks, Carla!!) so I know that I will be able to play the game! Definitely something to look forward to in (hopefully) the next couple of weeks! Perhaps by that time, the translation will be ready. I am bookmarking this thread until the right time. The price for the game actually is excellent, so hopefully that time will be sooner rather than later. Darleen, glad to know everything worked out for you, and you are enjoying the game so much! What do you think of the story? It sounds very good, from what I've read.

Well....I am at the village...Today I will play some more if I get a chance. The story so far is good...NOG" the monster is now my friend. There are other monster's I am assuming will not be my friend. and the villagers are at their mercy. I do hope you get to play it...Its not your run of the mill Adventure...The puzzles are not so easy...You can put things together in inventory, and you have to examine everything. The graphics are very good. I really love the game. Also It can be humorous at times...You have lots of save slots..

Yes, that is the rub of the patch- new exe means old saves won´t work, sorry for the inconvenience.
Anyway, we at the development team of this game are all happy for people like our little adventure, thank you all for all your kind words :-)

You're all so excited about this game that I decided to try buying it. <g> Made it all the way through the payment process using Carla's "very" helpful instructions and now I'm waiting. (Thank you, Carla! Couldn't have done it without you!)
I must say, Google Translate worked beautifully to let me know what the last page was saying.
"Your order has been placed on a waiting list.
"Once we receive confirmation of payment from our partner, you will receive an email containing all the information to download and install the software purchased."
Well, it is the weekend so I don't expect a fast reply but I paid by Visa Debit. Sure hope Debit is acceptable! ---------------
Evidently, Debit is fine. Just finished downloading the game. I assume it's okay to make a DVD copy for my own use, right?
Gil.

Hi If I am posting on the wrong board, will a Mod please do the necessary .... I bought a "used disk version" of Tale of a Hero a month ago but it failed to arrive so this week, Carlo_AProd kindly arranged for me to get a full refund. On receipt of the refund, I tried to purchase the digital download of the game (using Carla's invaluable instructions - thank you Carla !!) but each time I reached the page where my credit card purchase was "verified" the page just stayed on screen - on and on and on - until I got the "timed out" message. So after three attempts which all ended in that same failure, I gave up. I just now tried again and apparently my payment went through this time because I was immediately sent an email from the finance company - GestPay - to say it had been received. However, I wasn't given any opportunity to go back to the game site to download the game Can anyone please help me out here and tell me how I can go about downloading the game now, please ?? [My not understanding Italian is a horrible hindrance, of course ] Cheers. Mad

Mad,
Multiplayer.com should have sent you an email with a download link and the installation code. If you didn't get it, you may need Carla or someone else who speaks Italian to help you talk to them and get this straightened out. Have you checked your junk email folder just to be sure it's not in there?

I don't think I'm anywhere near the end of this game but I've got to say it's a lot of fun and quite creative - none of your usual fairy tale about it.
I thought I'd fall out of my chair laughing when a tiny octopus made a very rude gesture at Olaf, and if you play this, you're going to love Olaf's way of solving a slider! If that was your idea, tol, thanks for getting a small measure of revenge for all of us!

I should have been able to go back to the site after making my payment but I never got the option to do so. Which is probably why I haven't been sent the appropriate stuff to enable my downloading the game. And there's nothing in my Junk Box, I've already looked I'll have to hope an Italian speaking person will come along SOON to help me out

Mad,
It took some hours for my order to be accepted. I said something about it in another thread...let me look...okay, it was after 10 PM when I said that I'd just ordered the game and the email with the download link arrived at 2:59 AM the next morning. So hang in there, you may get that email yet. :-)
Gil.
Btw, not every site has an instant download as GOG does. I always have to wait for an email from...the Adventure Shop, I think it is.

you're going to love Olaf's way of solving a slider! If that was your idea, tol, thanks for getting a small measure of revenge for all of us! Gil. Glad you liked it. Yes, that was exactly my idea, I hate these in adventures too- that´s why you won´t find any similar "puzzles" in our game and that´s why we have invested expensive cut-scene just for this manifestation :-)

That's terrific, Mad. I know you're going to enjoy this game, particularly as you get further into it.
Btw, (forgive me if you already know this) the activation code is in your email. It's under this: Installazione / Avvio Numero di serie / Codice d'attivazione (The code - a string of letters and numbers.)

You never had to type it in? Lucky you! I always have to squint at the numbers I've written down and type very carefully. But no, once the game's activated, that's it.
Have fun!

Hi, I had to contact them as a download was taking longer than expected, and they emailed back with perfect English, so just write to them and ask them to send you another email (check your email address is correct first). They were very helpful.

I downloaded the demo and the game looks wonderful. I have subtitles in English but no voice. Is that the way it is suppose to be?

The full game is voiced in English, Nancy. Maybe it's just the demo that doesn't have any voiceover.

You need to apply the "English" patch to get everything in English. The address for the patch is on a post in this thread somewhere, I think .... It's a really nice game

Thanks traveler. I think I will go ahead and order the game. Will the download then be with English voiceover or do I still need to load the patch that was created.

@rockingrjranch Hi, you can play it without the patch I gather from the forum but if you download the patch the subtitles will be in English, not Italian, which means, if you are impatient, like I am sometimes, and can read quick, you can skip through some of the slower spoken passages! The game is brilliant by the way, I have just finished it and it took me ages too, really good value gameplay.

The patch is on page 9 of the thread, Nancy. It gives you English subtitles and identifies most things in the game in English.

Thanks traveler. I think I will go ahead and order the game. Will the download then be with English voiceover or do I still need to load the patch that was created. I strongly recommend to play with patch because not only subtitles will be translated from Italian to English but all texts in books, lists etc. and hotspot names as well.

I played the first part in Italian when I was having all that trouble - I'm almost sure it was because the game was initially installed in Program Files(x86) in Win7 - and really, I enjoyed it. Figuring out what Avanti and Certo meant added a little more puzzle to the game. And since Olaf was kind enough to explain any text that was crucial to the gameplay, no problem there either.
I did download and install the patch, though, mostly because I was curious about the other entries in the bestiary.
This game is so good, tol. Thanks so much.

jody319, I also have Win7 64-bit and I wasn't able to get into the pantry either. For some reason, I was thrown back to an earlier point in the game where I was treated to breakfast 'again'. I couldn't even find saved games in the game folder. Nothing I tried worked except uninstalling the game and reinstalling it in a folder in My Documents instead of the default Program Files(x86). If you want to try that, it will mean replaying to the point where the glitch happens but if this is your solution, it's worth it. You've barely started! Gil.

Never mind, long writing by me, then found answer in Glitches and it looks like I can't play any more. Jody (sorry for the post...which I erased... Hi Jody, sorry for this inconvience, the game runs on very old engine and we are having hard time to find a solution for it. If you happen to still have files with the saves, it would be a great help for us in order to hopefuly prepare patch one day for 64-bit systems. So if you have them, can you send them to me, please?

Tol...I hope that I can get the saves to you for a patch. Luckily for me I have an old laptop that has XP on it so I am playing it on that computer and it is running beautifully. BUT I will get those saved games off this computer and send them along.
Thank YOU for all your help and caring...
Jody(I can't find the saved games anywhere, so if anyone has a suggestion as to where they might be, please let me know...thanks!)
And Traveler...wish I had read this earlier as I would have tried that, but since I do have the other computer, I will do it that way. Thanks a bunch for the help suggestion.
Jody

Jody, I'm not surprised you couldn't find the saved games on your computer running Win7. Where they go I have no idea. When I changed the game folder to My Docs, there the saves were in the game folder, all neatly rowed up and visible.
One thing, when you look for the saved games, search for save.1 or savepic.1
It's great you can play it on your laptop!

Venus,
Short answer, yes. I don't know that Program Files(x86) was the problem but it sure seems like it. The game worked beautifully when I put it in My Documents.

I just got a new computer with Windows 7 on it I just downloaded the game I think the one I'm trying to click on to start the game, give me a error that I have incompatible drivers, did anyone have any problems on this, and any suggestions on what to do?
Thanks Lori
EDIT: Never mind I downloaded the patch and now its seems to be working. One question though does the game start with him falling down a hole? Seems like a weird starting?
Thanks

Thanks Hi, the patch doesn´t reapir anything regarding the Win 7 issues (which are there, unfortunatelly and we are still trying to figure them out), it only translates texts to English. The game really starts with Olaf falling down

Hi guys, I finally went for it and got this game purchased (thanks to Carla's info on this thread), downloaded, installed, and patched. (Thanks for the English voiceovers and subtitles! It's wonderful when a game maker is so helpful.) But I noticed my instructions (manual) are not in English...did the patch not include that, or is it operator error? I'm sure I can figure it out (though maybe not), but thought I'd check first before using my few remaining brain cells.

l4l, Trust me, you don't need a manual. This game is a breeze to play. But if you need a walkthrough (you?) MaGtRo wrote a nice one. Gil.

The patch is for the game only, text of the manual is not affected by the patch. But as Traveler already have said, there is probably no need for manual as the controls are standard one- Left click on all actions, right click on additional examination of the hotspot. The game is designed in a way that no crucial action is under right click, so the whole game can be finished just with the left mouse button. Cheers

L4L....
The game is superb....Also the puzzles are not as easy as one might think...There are some thinkers....Take it real slow playing..Because you will enjoy every breath taking minute...

Just curious .....there is a black mirror hanging in kruegals place at the end of the game dont really need a spoiler as it has nothing to do with the game.....just wondering if this is a joke or something related to black mirror games...

I think tol and metamorphium poked it in there just for fun but maybe one of them will tell you. (I'm sure it was a reference to Black Mirror.)

Yes it is a joke refering to the most famous game of Future Games (we have been developing Tale of a Hero for and in them). There are many others references to other aventure games but not only them scattered trough whole game :-)
