I am currently downloading a demo for it. I must admit, it looks pretty cool.

If anyone who's played it has any thoughts, feel free to share!

I really enjoyed both of the Mysterious Island games, but of the two, I enjoyed the first one more.

There is a review here by Looney4Labs.

I've seen posts here and there saying that someone didn't like this game, but I quite liked it. I played both RTMI 1 and 2. They were both very good. After having played the Dracula and Sherlock Holmes games that are dark and moody, I enjoyed something light and airy, bright and colorful.

Some of the tasks and puzzles were a bit challenging and I did resort to the walkthrough but I don't mind that. There's lots of going back and forth from one location to another, but honestly, a lot of adventure games have that.

RTMI reminded me a lot of Destination Treasure Island, Atlantis 2 and 3, Aura 1 and 2, all of which I really enjoyed. If you like these types of games, then you should enjoy this. Patience and a good walkthrough will help keep you from get frustrated in some of the harder parts. Hope you enjoy it if you decide to purchase it.

I love adventure games. I've been playing Nancy Drew, Drakan: The Ancient Gates, Zelda games, Tomb Raider, etc.

I only like either Nancy Drew type point and click or ones like Tomb Raider where you can see your character. Nothing too far away camera wise, though.

I want a game that won't be over in 2 hours.
I'm considering Dreamfall: The Longest Journey, though I'm not sure if it will play on Win 7?

I just have trouble figuring out what to get. I don't always go by reviews as everyone is different but I would like to try games that give adventure/mystery and aren't over in the blink of an eye.

I liked the first Return to Mysterious Island.
I didn't care so much for the second. It's not horrible, just not as much fun as the first one and not as good as I was expecting it to be. I didn't enjoy playing as the monkey.

I'm with Jenny on this one, loved the first one, but only played the second for a session or two and quit. Just didn't like playing the monkey at all.

Dreamer, our staff reviews like the one I linked to detail the gameplay that you will encounter so that you can decide for yourself if it is something that interests you rather than just a personal opinion.

No, I have not. I love scary ghost games though. I was worried the black/white gameplay would not be fun though?

The black/white gameplay takes some getting used to, but it's a fabulous game and is also one of the longest adventure games I have played in the last several years. And, after a short while, I found that the black/white gameplay added to the atmosphere of the game rather than detracted from it.

If you are looking for a spooky game that won't end after a few hours, I would highly recommend The Lost Crown. smile

According to this thread here on GameBoomers, The Lost Crown runs on Windows 7. smile

Big Fish does not have this game. wave

I agree completely with Marian. I played The Lost Crown recently and LOVED it! I also thought when first seeing the black and white screenshots that I perhaps wouldn't enjoy the game. But I quickly got used to the b/w along with the somewhat robotic movements of the characters because I became so immersed in the storyline, which is wonderful! Marian is right in saying that the b/w adds to the spooky ambiance of the game. The Lost Crown is right near the top of my list of favorite LFA's.

The black and white is really good in this game and there are some great highlights here and there in color!

I'll 2nd/3rd/4th the Lost Crown recommendation. While I have a few things that disappointed me with it, the overall experience was simply fantastic. The version I got from GamersGate ran fine in Windows 7, 32 bit.

You will thank us all later when you play it. wink

dreamer - if you check out the reviews ,they give you a lot of info on each game.

also , the "glitches" section has long lists of games that run in windows seven. if might be worth your while to check the lists .

you should play what catches your eye ,because everyone's taste is different. i liked playing as the monkey , but i've also played from a bug's viewpoint ,too !

and any game will last longer if you don't use a walkthrough for it step by step - there is a "hints" section that will only help you through
the exact place you are stuck , if you 'd like.

also there is a list of recommended games at the top of the page - the annual list. if you found something there , you could see if it would play using the list in "glitches". hope this helps ?

have fun no matter what !

Yeah, this is helpful smile
The issue I have with bigfishgames for example or even amazon is that a lot of games look really cool and then I find out that they're just hidden object games. I'd rather have something like Nancy where you are doing a point a click and find stuff or just a point and click adventure. I don't know really how to look for that because the results are almost always hidden obj.

On Big Fish you need to look under Large File Games for the adventure games.

Marian,

It is interesting what makes a game fun for each of us. I personally disliked Lost Crown. Didn't like the b/w graphics and really didn't like the dopey main character. I was hoping that the b/w would grow on me and that the game would eventually get better (for me), but t didn't. I played about 1/2 of it and gave up. Most people seem to have liked it, so I am in the minority on this one.

Understood, gatsbygirl. I've been in the minority before, too, on games that many seemed to like but I did not. smile

I much preferred the first Return To Mysterious Island to the second smile

The Lost Crown did suffer from stilted character voicing in parts but I thought it was a really good adventure nonetheless.
[And for me the black and white definitely added ambience thumbsup]

Hey Dreamer, smile

Sounds like the Carol Reed games might be right up your alley. you might want to check them out. Its one of my favorite series.

As for RTMI2, I recently started it and am enjoying it, but feel that the first one WAS better. 2 is good too, just not AS good.
IMO of course. smile

Oh, yeah, Im also another that enjoyed the "Lost Crown" and felt the black & white added to the creepy atmosphere. smile
