I posted this topic on Mystery Manor already, but nobody there could fathom out my problem, and have emailed BFG but nothing from them yet, and as I would like to buy a game today, I thought I would ask you folks about it. I am either very confused - or being very stupid - and I don't know which LOL!

When I try to buy a standard game, it wants to charge me £5.39 ($8.28) reduced from £7.70 ($11.83) - and when I try to buy the Daily Deal which is $2.99, it's charging me £2.30 ($3.53) - I really dont understand these prices. I really dont know why it's quoting me in British Pounds because in My Account, Billing & shipping, I have it set to U.S. Dollars and that is the way I pay for my monthly subscription.

I just did an experiment to buy today's Daily Deal and it is trying to charge me $3.59!!!!

There are taxes that they have to charge when you live in certain areas. They have to do that based on the laws from where you live. I am not sure you can change that.

Just a thought Boobie, why don't you change dollars to pounds and log out than log in and change back to dollars. Wouldn't hurt to try.

I will try that, Richard.

Is this something new, Ana, because I have never had this problem before? And if I was being charged taxes, wouldn't my monthly subscription be higher than the $6.99 BFG are taking from my Bank account? headscratch

Edit: Worth a try, Richard, but it didnt work crazy

Yes, you might be right, Ana - It might be including VAT of 20% which is payable in the UK. But I have always been registered with a UK address before, so does this mean that Big Brother knows where I live now???

Hi Rosaboobie,

BFG charge the OS members in their own currency now so you have to change it yourself in the buy page, it's down on the left, just choose the currency you would like to pay in and it will change to it. I get charged USD for my monthly bill but have to change from AUD when i buy a game other wise i get charge $7.47 AUD(we don't pay tax)instead of $6.99.They should be able to help you I'm sure.

I have already tried that, vagabond, and it still wants to charge me $3.59 for the Daily Deal!

Rosaboobie, I'm sorry this is happening to you, this is just a thought but are you able to go on live chat? maybe there is someone there that can help you, i just don't know if they are there over weekends but you could try.

There is no Live Chat at the weekends, vagabond, but I will try it tomorrow - thanks for all your help.

With hindsight, I think it's because I changed my credit card billing address from Jersey to the UK recently, and that it's like Ana said, and I am being charged 20% VAT now.

Hi, Rosaboobie!

All of the websites you visit know the country you're in because of your IP address, so the price of the games is displayed in the currency of that country. However, when you purchase a game, you should have the option to change the currency and pay in US dollars.

I live in Canada, so I see the prices of BFG displayed in Canadian dollars when I go to their website. If I choose to pay in US dollars, I simply make the change at the time of purchase and my credit card company will then charge 2.5% to convert it to Canadian dollars. When the Canadian dollar is worth less than the US dollar, I pay in Canadian dollars, but when the Canadian dollar is worth more than 2.5% of the US dollar, I pay in US dollars.

Yes, it is letting me change the currency into Dollars, Susie, but it is also adding the UK VAT, I believe. That's not good news that I now have to pay 20% more for my games - Time to move back to Kenya??? headscratch Yet they also had VAT at 16% so I really dont understand.

Hi8, Rosaboobie!

I can't explain why you're being charged VAT because we pay 13% HST (Harmonized Sales Tax) here in Ontario, but BFG doesn't charge that whether I pay in US or Canadian dollars.

Have you emailed Customer Service because it's possible that BFG has an agreement with the UK to charge the VAT, and they can confirm that for you?

Susan

Yes I have emailed them a couple of days ago, Susan - They must be very busy at the moment.

Hi, Rosaboobie!

BFG is usually really good about responding to emails, so I'm sure someone will reply within the next day or so. Perhaps they don't work on weekends, so that might delay things by a couple of days.

I hope you'll let us know what they say when you receive an answer to your question.

Susan

Well, would you believe it! Took the bull by the horns last night because I wanted to buy the Daily Deal. The first and second pages of the checkout were still charging me $3.59 but when I pressed Submit Order, it only charged me $2.99. So all this waffle from me, all for nothing! grin taz

Hi, Rosaboobie!

That's great news! You'll probably see a different amount on your credit card when the $2.99 is converted to your currency, but at least BFG isn't adding in any taxes to the purchase price.

You are quite right, Susan - I was doing a quiet panic because I do tend to buy a lot of BFG games, and the 20% would sure add a lot more to my shopping with them. But thanks for all your advice anyway.

Hi, Boobie!

I'm glad it worked out for you. We pay 13% HST here in Ontario, so it's nice that BFG are only about 2% more if we pay in Canadian dollars.

Susan
