May he rest in peace. My mother saw him in our local grocery store in Napa when he lived in that area (we were living there, too), and a friend of mine at that time was a good friend of his. Robin Williams

What a terrible shame... Very sorry to read this... I will always fondly remember him in the movie the "Bird Cage" My favorite movie I have on DVD.
Just read he was going through deep depression for a few years.
Sad...My condolences to his family...

Why do the talents that burn brightest always seem to burn out too soon?!
These are very sad losses that, to a great many, are the hardest to come to terms with, especially to those who knew him best.
Watching the movies his vibrant presence ignited will never be the same to me....
May he find peace ....

Oh no. How sad is that? Mrs. Doubtfire is such a treasured movie for my daughters and I. Such a talent! We'll certainly miss his presence on the screen that has entertained us so much in the past.
Did you ever stop to think and then forget to start again?

Considered the king of ad lib; during his show Mork and Mindy most of his lines he ad libbed. He was a showman at making others laugh.

A story on the news told of a dance teacher he had at Juilliard who told him he'd never be an actor. Wonder how the crow tasted?
Robin Williams was another of those great entertainers whose fire burned very hot, and who provided hours of joy to those who had the pleasure of watching their performances. He suffered from a mental illness which is usually not discussed because of the stigma associated with being diagnosed with a mental illness. It's sad he finally listened to that little voice instead of seeking out his family or friends. It's sad a person of his magnitude has to end his life before others realize depression can be treated. And doesn't have to be endured alone. R.I.P. Robin Williams...
If something gets your goat, it just proves you have a goat to get.

Well said, Homer, and thanks for sharing your observations!
Actress/author Carrie Fisher, who also suffers from this disease, had some astute observations on the issue as well in The Hollywood Reporter.
Yes, depression can be treated, and the experience shared with others if you overcome the stigma, but the problem is, that especially if it's the manic-depressive kind, the bipolar one, that any sort of medication or treatment will have to be adjusted a lot of times. And in that case, treatment will always have to respond to the mood swings, because they're so hard to predict.
I also have to take into account, though, that after suffering for such a long time, your body and your mind can wear out, and you can reach a point of no return, at least in your perception. Because that's part of the problem, no matter how much love and other blessings you receive in life, your perception is coloured, and you can simply block them out, and fail to appreciate them. It no longer reaches you, so to speak.
This must a devastatingly bleak moment, and if someone ever comes close to it, you can only hope they find the strength and sometimes the sheer luck to overcome it.
Rich

Apparently Robin Williams was also suffering from early stages of Parkinson's Disease. Yes, so I've just read. This was revealed by his widow, Susan Schneider. This must have added significantly to his despair..... Poor man! Rich

I just read also about the Parkinson, but Robin Williams had to have other deep problems. I say this cause Michael J Fox has been living with Parkinson's for 20 years... Its not a certain death sentence.
What ever it was it was deep depression....
