Any hints on what to do with that green beam in the shuttle bay. I can turn the pods around and have the beam crisscross all over but not sure on what the end result should be. laugh

Can you see the source pod? Start by turning it so that the beam comes out pointing towards the center of the room and another beam pointing towards the entrance where you came in. Then pick one beam at a time and follow it to the next pod. Turn that pod so that the inlet is now facing the beam. If right, it will now exit this pod and reflect onto the next pod. The path follows itself because there is only one correct way of continuing the beam. If it stops before it is reflected back to the pod in front of that eye/door on the wall then a pod is not turned right. I think if you get the source pod turned right all else will fall into place. Try that and let us know.

Sorry Kim, I did miss your post. I didn't even know that the book gave a solution to the first puzzle ...oh well. The idea for it is this, you have 9 rings and 5 control buttons. Each button controls 3 or more rings. You have to map out which button controls what rings and in doing so set the rings up so that the last button moves the last set of rings into place. It's kind of like a slider puzzle. Is this an O.K. explanation?

You don't. The bottom button is used to reset the rings to their original state, so you can start over and develop a solution. It is possible to solve in five clicks.

Press 1, 2, 2, 4, 4.

First of all, if you really don't know how to make them turn, go up to one really close, and get the "use" cursor. They always turn to the right, one-quarter turn.

If you found the switch to turn on the power, you must have seen the black lens on the wall. THe idea is to get light into the lens.

Pods have one or more sensors (inputs) and one or more lasers (outputs.)

There is only one laser that can shine on the lens, and it has one output and three inputs. To make it work, light must shine into all three sensors. Therefore, when you turn on the power originally, it lights up the starting laser, which has two outputs.

One will give you a very short route left, left, and left, into the final one. The other will go away from the lens, and eventually split into two routes, and come around into the center and far inputs of the final one.

It's not too hard, just don't go too far afield.

Careful observation on this one is the key. I assume you would like a hint first. If later you want the answer let us know.
Observe how many blue shots it takes to fill a pillar. Reset the pillar with a red shot. Now put a couple of blue shoots in another pillar, go back and refill your first pillar. It will take a less blue shots to fill it (moves greater distance now). From this you can see that to get all the sections to the proper level pillars will move up by a given distance depending on the blue shots put in the all the pillars. So the idea is to know in what order to shoot a blue shot into a pillar. I found it took 9 shoots. Remember that red resets it.

Building this bridge, you are "playing against the computer."

Each time you add segments, the computer is also allowed to add segments, provided the maximum height of the plant is not reached.

Each time you add segments, a leaf is added. Not so with the computer opponent. You must plan the moves so you get to the top last, creating a leaf-bridge.

The only rule is, you or your opponent can add one, two, or three segments.

Figure out the maximum height of each pole.
Learn the controls; which button gives you one, two, or three segments.

The max height of the first (left) plant is nine.

Always leave the computer opponent with a multiple of four segments.

Funny how we all see stuff differently. I'll say my way just in case it further helps someone....

Again study how many segments it takes to get to the top. Then study the leaf position for every color. Then study how many pods grow on top of each leaf after it grows. This number will change if you fire the same color twice. Knowing this you can calculate exactly what you have to fire. As an example, if I need a green on the bottom and it grows 3 pods on top, you can reset it and fire the green again knowing that this time it will only put 2 pods on top of the leaf. Doing this reset on the first shot allow you to offset the number of pods to your own desire.

Would you mind elaborating a little on how to get the metal(?) pillars to the same level? There is obviously one combination that I've missed, but since I'm up to a gazillion by now, it's getting kinda hard to keep track smile

Lets see if I remember my solution:

(5,7) (2,9) (1,3,8) (4,6)
9 shots total

Shoot a blue ball at the pillars in this order, pillars from left to right.

My hints for Neutral Zone bridges.

Metal bridge first.

Each shot increases the height of selected bridge by variable number of units. First shot (also after reset) increases the height by 1 unit, second by 2 units and so on. Each pillar has different initial height

If that's where you are, go back across the metal bridge and look for the place to build the plant-bridge.
Yes I've used the "control panel" by the mixed bridge but cannot cross. Then I finished the plant bridge and talked to the people on the other side of it. Couldn't pass through that field either so I went back to the beach and saw the cut scene. Then I talked to the first beach companion. Then the second one. This one moved away opening up a hidden pathway. Entering that you come to a small valley or something where there is a big metal thing. Problem is I don't know what to do with it to solve that puzzle.

Mohawk, write down which gates have to be moved back. Go under the wires and move the connections (bone like things) so that the ends of these connections are on the gates to be moved. You also have to chain them up so as to get as many gates linked together. This is done by two connection ends parked on the same wire. You can't get all the gates to open at once so get as many as you can linked up then go up and push the button on the panel just once (don't reset it). Go back and slide the conntions to get the rest of the gates. I hope I am explaining it well.

The control panel only gives you two attempts to pull on the cables. So you must figure a way to set the sliders to connect cables together in such a way as to pull toward you (away from the path, that is) all the ones that aren't already forward.

Yes, it's possible in two moves. There are sixteen blocks, and it's vital to observe which ones are already forward, so as to not waste any time on them. Using the connectors, you can link them in a way so that you can pull on one cable, and move all the offending blocks. Divide the whole thing into right and left halves, and solve one siden then the other.

If you turned off the blue laser, then you can walk into an area that was blocked by the laser. Go there, and explore until you find a window you can look through. There, you will see the back side of the locked gate you are trying to open with the four dials. The four rods are controlled by the dials. The gaps must align with the lock.

Spoiler for Mohawk:

The main control has a rotating selector which selects the cable you will pull, a reset button on the right, an action button in the center of the rotating selector, and at the bottom, a light-bar indicating that you have only two moves allowed! The first move will fix the first seven blocks on the left.
Slide the top coupler all the way to the left, connecting cables 1 and 5. (Careful, don't go too far, or it will be necessary to slide it all the way to the right and back to the left again.) Slide the second coupler left, until it spans cables 4 and 7. Slide the third one until it connects 2 and 4. Slide the last one until it connects 4 and 5. Notice that 1 is connected to 5, 5 is connected to 4, and 4 is connected to 2 and 7. That way, if you pull cable 1, all but 3 and 6 will be moved forward. Three and six are already forward by default.
Climb back up to the control, confirm that the rotating selector is where it started, at position one. That means you will be pulling on cable one, and the couplers will help pull the other cables. Press the center button and the first seven blocks will all be clear of the pathway. (Actually it works if you pull on any cable from 1 to 7, except 3 or 6 because they are all linked together.)
Second move: Plan on pulling cable 16. Slide the second coupler all the way to the right, connecting 16 and 13. Slide the third coupler to connect 13 and 11. Slide the fourth coupler to connect 13 and 12, and finally the top coupler to connect 12 and 8. Pull the 16th cable. (Again, pulling any cable that is part of the group linked together gets the job done.) The pathway is cleared and you can enter Arko's cave.

Hi gronmo,

For the Ansala leaf puzzle - this is what I found:

This puzzle is played against the computer. The computer randomly adds a certain number of segments to what you add.

The plant on the left needs 9 segments, the middle needs 13 segments and the right plant needs 10 segments.

One of the ways to trap the computer is to leave segments for the computer that are divisible by 4, ex. 4, 8 or 12.

Since the computer segments are random:

Shoot green on left plant to have one segment, leaving 8 for the computer.

Shoot green on middle plant to have one segment, leaving 12 for the computer.

Shoot yellow on right plant to have two segment, leaving 8 for the computer.

The computer will add its segment.

Count the segments on each plant and then add enough to leave a number divisible by 4.

Remember that the blue makes three segments, the yellow - two and the green - one segment.

If this is the puzzle with the four vertical dials, it is the one Tally referred to when he said
Quote:

The dials open a locked door.
If you don't go around and find that window that shows you the back of the door, so you can see the effects of turning each dial, I don't think you'll ever solve it.

I was talking about the second organic bridge. The one with rising and falling leaves. It wasn't really hard to do but I'm not sure if there's supposed to be a real pattern to it. I'm currently stuck in the village where I have to do the patched up skin puzzle (multi colored segments sewn together that makes sounds when you click them).

Hi Gronmo -

That patchwork is just a clue - what color goes with what sound.

There will be another clue; what color goes with what pattern.

There will finally be a puzzle, four colors provided; you select pattern and sound.

I just fell through a few times until the pattern became easy enough to remember. Then I saved the game and getting through was easy.

I've escaped from the prison now and went on the transport. After looking around in the new area I'm stuck again. I don't know what to do. I see that I can switch some force fields on and off but thats about it.

Start from the beginning when there's no forcefield up yet. Take the right path from the gondola (not the statue path).

Follow the perimeter and see the ancient symbol similar to Arco's door.
Note that the drawing has concentric circles. Also Sen staed something about the oracle.

You now have to follow the pattern of the ancient symbol - circle within the circle - without backtracking and going through any forcefield.

BTW - this includes going down the Galleries of heroes.

All I did was constantly rotate between the timers. I just figured that one of the was a starting point, moved to the very next one and then the third and that worked. Once you get all three bars open you can relax, they don't reset.

I checked different variations. The only one that works to stop the bars from retracting is:
Top first, middle and bottom bars.
If you did the bottom, middle and then top - it doesn't work.
If you did middle and then any of the other bars - it also doesn't work.

Here's the solution I found.

I solved it by accident because I thought I hadn't been fast enough and was going to skip the running part and just do the timer part, hopefully quicker the second time around. Only I found the second timer was inaccessible, when it would surely have run out if I'd gone straight for the door.

Here's the solution I ended up with

I started with the timer at the top left button,
then the timer at the bottom left button,
then the timer at the bottom right button,
then did the timer at the top left button again,
then used the top right button and ran for the door.

At least it worked with me. I think using the timer at the top left button the second time may have stopped the clock, but I'm not sure.

The symbols on the buttons are indeed numbers, they are 0, 1, 2, 3. Numbers in the base four.

The other three symbols are clues. Wandering around the village, you should have found three signposts, each with a collection of one of those symbols. Count them. It's HOW MANY symbols on each signpost that you need to punch in the numbers.

decimal to base four:

0 = 000
1 = 001
2 = 002
3 = 003
4 = 010
5 = 011
6 = 012
7 = 013
8 = 020
9 = 021
10 = 022
11 = 023
12 = 030
13 = 031
14 = 032
15 = 033
16 = 100

Hi gronmo,

Take the right path (not statue path) from the gondola.

Go around the perimeter. Sen notes the ancient symbol at one of the perimeter node and ponders about the Oracle. Note the concentric circles.

Once you reach the statue, take the inner right path and circle the park following the concentric circles in the ancient symbol.

After the second circle, take the middle path that goes down to the central lower level Galleries of Heroes. Walk to the end of the gallery and then go back up.

Turn right to the outer perimeter node. A cutscene will show a gondola coming up.

Turn right to the ancient sign node and ride the gondola.

Just in case you need another one - this is what I have been using - base- n calculator.

I'm stuck at the third clue on the crate. Ugh!

Ok, Jenny, then I won't bother to post the link I found. But I did notice that the calculator at the bottom of your page says it is to convert to base 2, but if you change the 2 to 12, you can use it for base 12 conversions...

Mohawk - There are 2 doors like that - you have to connect unbroken from left to right a line of current. I will mail you some more info.

I've been at the ansala leaf puzzle about three days now,and nothing has happened. I hate to be a pain but what do you mean by adding enough to leave a number divisible by 4. What do I do even after I figure that out? I'm really stuck on this one. What will happen when I get it right? love the game so far. Thanks much
Richard

After leaving the computer space for addition divisible by 4, the computer will add another set of segments.
Again add segments that will leave divisible by 4 until you will be the last one to add some segments.
If that is the case - then complete the height necessary for that plant.
The plant on the left needs 9 segments, the middle needs 13 segments and the right plant needs 10 segments.

I need a hint on the three doors on the second trip to Lyra. I have opened the left and right doors but I am unable to derive the combination for the middle door.

The red/green ball does not generate any combination. I have tried using the red and green balls separately to generate the combination for each half of the picture but no combination of the two seems to work.

any hints please?

You're on the right track. Split the pattern into left and right halves. One ball will show you the left half, with four numbers on the s-pattern. Use the FIRST TWO places. The other ball will show the right half, again displaying four spots on the s-pattern. Use the LAST TWO spots. That's a total of four buttons, which will open the door.

Floyd, use the first half of the code for the left symbol and the second half from the right side symbol. This will make a 4 digit code.

Use both lenses on the telescope - what you will see will always be the wrong colors - that is red is really blue and blue is really red.

Then turn the real red to the outside gate so that it is away from you. You will find out later why you did it this way. wink

er... what red lights? There are 2 buttons. one to place the lens on the telescope and the other to turn the gate that is seen through the scope. smile

Did anyone else have problems seeing the base 12 numbers on the top of the 4 towers in the endgame puzzle? I saw half of one of the numbers, very faintly, but the rest of the number and the numbers on the other 3 towers were completely washed out - just a white tower top.

Jenny, Mordack has the same problem and had a solve for it without the numbers from the tower roof. smile

Paul, If you're in jail - I reworded the wt early this AM. The spaces are the length between the knots of the rope. You're right about the clamp with the 2 sharp arm that should hold the colored clips on the rope. smile

I finally made it to the Gelleas wreck,and I'm stuck on the crate puzzle. There are two control panels there which one do I use? What order do I press the buttons. There are 6buttons on each panel. Is the center one to reset the puzzle?
Thank you,
Richard

How did you make it through the crate puzzle. I can't make any headway. I've tried everything and nothing worked. Could you tell me exactly how you did it. Thanks
Richard

Check MaG's walkthrough
http://www.gameboomers.com/wtcheats/pcMm/mj2.htm

I don't know if it matters which control you use. I haven't tested that yet. But it works for the left control. If you can't find a way to reset, the game should have autosaved when you arrived on Galleas.
