Any opinion on the short "up to now" list posted in the 2015 List Topic?

Surprise to see all those older games?

Not really, considering how long some of us have been playing.

Most people have at least one recent game in their list -- as long as you don't restrict "recent" to year 2015.

A bigger question is why Shivers isn't in the "Hall of Fame" list yet.

I've been playing computer games since 1982, and although I know that there are good adventure games being released now (and I have played quite a few), most of my favorite adventure games were released in the 1990s (as well as several of my favorites having already joined the Hall of Fame). Nothing much since then has eclipsed these favorites. It's not just nostalgia, either - they definitely hold up, and hold up well.

I agree with Jenny that Shivers is one of the best adventure games ever - and it was released in the 1990s. laugh

I agree with Jenny100 and Marian. My favorite games are still the old ones because they were true adventures with little dialogue but lots of challenges and beautiful unique environments.

Jenny I think Shivers was a good game too. I think we should have a Hall of Fame vote on some of the older games like Shivers, Monkey Island and Tex Murphy, etc.

It's nice to be important but it is much more important to be nice.

Old games are great, but some newer games are great too... so I tried to balance it out on my list.

I love Shivers to death when it came out... It was my 1995 Christmas present (originally it was Phantasmagoria, but we returned the game the store two days later) and I remember I had to use 2 free monthly AOL trials to get solutions for the Chinese marble puzzle and the pinball puzzle LOL, I still remember it vivdly...

Anyway, my love for Shivers has cooled down substantially throughout the years, and I don't even put it in any of my top lists anymore. Now I feel like the game is just a puzzle fest with a horribly cheesy story. Its soundtrack though is still one of my favorites, if not my favorite...

A so-called "puzzle fest" is exactly what I want out of a game.
And Shivers had a great mood, thanks in part to the soundtrack.

Unfortunately most modern puzzle/adventures use 1st person 3D movement which gives me motion sickness -- so are unplayable. I used to be able to tolerate 3D movement to some degree, 14 or 15 years ago, but not any more. So I'm left with the old games.
