After running the scans and having a clean machine I went back to WadjetEye and clicked on the home page, the game page and the forum. I then reran my scan and came out clean. If WadjetEye was still infected wouldn't I have been affected again?

Well, Dave Gilbert said he was going to do something about the spambots. So whatever it was may be gone now. But really your guess is as good as mine. Hopefully the antivirus that are blocking the website will recheck it soon.

Dave's post on Facebook:
Hi all. We're aware that the WEG website is still triggering malware alerts. According to Google Transparency, this is still a FALSE POSITIVE. We are working on getting it fixed. Hopefully before Shardlight launches. smile emoticon

Wadjet's latest post:

We've partnered up with Sitelock and they are doing a mass scan and clean right now. Hopefully they can get it done and off the google block list before our pre-order announcement next week. It'll be tight!

It's on the Google block list too now?

Yeah, that's getting kind of serious.

I just checked. Firefox didn't block the Wadjet Eye homepage or their forum page, but it blocked the games page saying it had been reported as an attack site.

Also if you Google the site wadjeteyegames.com/games
the description says "this site may harm your computer"

Google has the same warning for the individual game pages like
wadjeteyegames.com/games/blackwell-legacy
and
wadjeteyegames.com/games/technobabylon/
and
wadjeteyegames.com/games/shardlight/

It's an especially nasty thing to happen to Wadjet Eye right when they're about to release Shardlight.

This may be a stupid question but, say you get Shardlight from GOG, could there still (potentially) be a problem with it since it comes from WadjetEye?

Finally did my full Norton scan. Nothing bad found except tracking cookies. Yay!

I think Dave Gilbert will have to answer that.
Even if his web server and his production environment are completely separate, could a production computer have become infected by using it to browse to the Wadjet Eye website? I have no idea.

If the game was corrupted wouldn't it show up when scans are done? the game is on my computer and I have run multi different scans and none show any infections in the game itself.

Thanks Jenny100. I believe that answers my question.

It's probably fine.
But Shardlight isn't released yet.
Are you talking about a beta version?

Dave Gilbert's Twitter page says the malware was removed.
https://twitter.com/wadjeteyegames
Google no longer lists the Wadjet Eye games pages as attack sites and Firefox has stopped blocking them.

He doesn't give a name for the malware.
According to Microsoft, it was JS/Axpergle, which is an exploit kit.
***Microsoft's webpage on JS/Axpergle***

Microsoft has ***this picture*** of how an exploit kit like Axpergle works.

If I understand correctly, if your computer was patched and doesn't have the vulnerabilities Axpergle is looking for, you wouldn't have been infected even if you visited the page without an antivirus.

Thanks Jenny!

Glad Dave cleared his site now before the game release.

It also appears that the Google Transparency software which they were running and which kept saying this was a false positive is not reliable.

I agree, this was close... preorders are now available.. nothing like adding a little stress with the release of a new game.
