I bought Gk1 from Gog recently, but there is no sound except voices. It is music in the cutscenes.
I tried to install my original cd through dosbox, and it has sound everywhere. I can play that, but it would be nice not to have to use the old disc.

The GOG version may have the music set to use General midi sound for midi music instead of the adlib that DOSBox uses by default.

General midi (either from a soundfont or midi module) produces much better sound quality, but you need to either own a midi module (and appropriate cables) or configure a soundfont to do midi. Unless you enjoy tweaking, it's probably not worth it.

If you copy the contents of the GK1 CD to a folder and install the game from the folder, it will run from the folder without needing the CD in the drive.

If you want to hear what GK1 music sounds like with a midi module,

It's quite a difference from the Adlib.

Edit:
I'm quite stubborn sometimes, and was looking around the web later last evening and found something. In the game folder for the game are a file called Resource.cfg. It lists a few options apparently made by installing the game, but I think they might have diseappared when installing via Gog Galaxy. Well, there the sound was set so a rather strange sound-card (or whatever the right name is) that my pc probably either didn't have or didn't like very well. By changing that to SoundBlaster, like dosbox uses, I now have sound everywhere, and the voices are perfect.

Thanks. I try the copy route.

Carol.

If you have the CD, just use the new installer. It will install the entire game to the hard drive for CD-less play and all relevant patches will be applied. It will automatically set it up in DOSBox and will be optimally configured. You will be able to start the game from a Windows shortcut, like a native Windows game.
