Hi,

I am using Windows 7 Professional. I have never tried Scumm VM before. Will I have a problem with the 64 bit or whatever of my windows 7 professional. I want to replay 3 skulls of the Toltecs that I have on CD. Any advice? Ever since my stroke I get very apprehensive about something new like this. My vision has also been affected. Maybe somewhere someone has some very clear and simple instructions. Can I install the program onto my drive D or is it better to use drive C?

Thank you,

Bill

ScummVM works just fine on Windows 7 Pro.

I found an article here that gives some good instructions about installing ScummVM. The ScummVM website also has some instructions.

It should work fine.
The ScummVM executable is a 32-bit installer and works fine on 64-bit Windows.
It's 16-bit exe's that are the problem with 64-bit Windows.
Download ScummVM from http://scummvm.org/downloads/

To install a game in ScummVM, you first copy the required files and/or folders from the game to a folder on your hard drive. The files/folders will be different for different games. The ones you need for Toltecs are listed here:
http://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php/Datafiles#3_Skulls_of_the_Toltecs

Then start ScummVM, click the "Add Game" button, and browse to the folder where you put the Toltecs files. If you've got the right files, Scumm should detect them.

It's really pretty easy -- easier than configuring DOSBox anyway.

Thank you Marian and Jenny.

Is there any advantage in using either the .exe or the .zip file in order to install ScummVM? I realize that the .exe file does it automatically for you. What is the reason for the Zipped file?

Do we name the game folder or are they predetermined by ScummVM?

Thank you!

Bill

I think the zip is the ScummVM folder zipped up, and the .exe is a self-extracting zip file.

You can call the game folder whatever you want. When you click the "Add Game" button, you browse to whatever that folder is.
I called my Scumm game folder "ScummGames" and put the folders for the individual games inside of ScummGames.

Thank you Jenny.

Is there any advantage or benefit for using either installation file (zip vs exe) rather than the other? Would I have any problems if I placed ScummVM on my D hardrive rather my C harddrive?

Sorry for all the questions! smile

Bill

I don't think there is a difference in the end result if you use the zip file vs the exe.
Maybe the exe creates a desktop shortcut for you while the zip doesn't? I don't remember.

There shouldn't be any problem running ScummVM from your D: drive.

Thank you Jenny,

Got 3 Skulls running ok, but not from the CD. Maybe more load time was needed to copy all of CD. The three folders required were copied from the same CD. A friend of mine is running it from the CD. smile

Again thank you,

Bill

If you want it running from the CD, you could try using "Add Game" button and then pointing it at the CD drive. I don't know why you'd want to run it from the CD though, since you'd probably have to wait for the CD to spin up while playing.
