Use the one that comes with Windows along with MalwareBytes.

Just so you know, most "free" antivirus now sell your personal information to advertisers. Check the "privacy" policy of anything you might want to use.

I just did a search for "best antivirus 2016" and got a lot of hits. These are a couple of them.

EDIT: Don't know what's going one, but my copy and paste of the links isn't working. Just highlight them, right click and select open link.

Norton is not a free anti-virus. Some people like it and some people don't.

How Norton can be used to infect your computer...
http://arstechnica.com/security/2016/06/...-mail-or-links/

And a little more technical...
https://googleprojectzero.blogspot.com/2016/06/how-to-compromise-enterprise-endpoint.html

Norton reported this themself, but not in language the average user could understand.
https://www.symantec.com/security_respon...uid=20160628_00

And as the Arstechnica article points out, Norton isn't the only antivirus which has had issues.

One thing to check when downloading free "protection" is if the product provides active protection. Several free or trial versions are scan or on-demand only; they don't monitor incoming data.

I feel a lot more like I do now, then when I first got here

Avast monitors in real time , & almost always scores rather highly on sites such as AV-Test & AV Comparatives . Avira is another free antivirus that monitors in real time . Comodo has a free security suite (Antivirus & Firewall) that monitor in real time . Comodo has the best free firewall available , bar none , & is better than most paid firewalls . Comodo is more for an advanced user , but novices can figure it out with a bit of time on their side . I am one of those that loathe anything Symantec (Norton). Zone Alarm has a free security suite that monitors in real time . The antivirus part is powered by Kaspersky . In the end though , a computer is only as secure as the person behind the keyboard .
