Hi All,
I am using windows 8.1 and have the latest version of IE. I have been using Explorer for more years than I care to remember.

Lately however, it is becoming eratic I keep getting script error messages that pop up so frequently that I have to close the browser and restart it. I have done everything that I could find on the internet to try to alleviate this problem. I disabled the things in options that I found as suggestions and I used a couple of programs that were suggested in a microsoft forum, awcleaner and Junkload and nothing has worked.

Also there some sites that I visit that either don't open or open without all the buttons etc on them. The same sites open correctly with Firefox.

It appears to me that Microsoft is more or less ignoring IE unless you have Win 10 which I don't particularly like right now.

So, I'm switching to another browser and I'm torn between Firefox and Chrome. I'm open to suggestions. Who prefers Firefox to Chrome and vice versa? Are there any other browsers that are easy to adapt to from one who has been an IE user for so long?

Or is there anything I have missed about how to fix Internet Explorer?

I use mostly Firefox with the Add On "Ad Block Plus" a great combo for getting rid of not only annoying Pop ups but also sites that try to trick you into scams, etc.

As for IE 11 I still use it but you are right, MS is ignoring IE 11 because they want people to switch over to Win 10 and their New Web Browser (forgot the name already).

For IE11 you could try clicking on "Tools" then click on "Internet Options" then click on the "Advanced tab" then click on the "Reset button" on the bottom, this usually fixes most of the IE problems.

Note: This is coming from a person who absolutely loved IE and was resistant to making the switch from IE to....

Firefox here too...

They ignore it even more on Windows 10.
They want you to use Edge instead.


Try both and see if you have a preference.
Some websites work better with one or the other.

Firefox has some good security add-ons, but Chrome has some too.
UBlock Origin is available for both.

I have been rotating between Firefox and Chrome and once I got them tuned to my preferences, I don't see a really big difference but I am leaning towards Firefox.

I kind of hate to hive up Internet Explorer after so many years but it is just not performing as it should. I did manage to transfer all my bookmarks and homepage so my two browsers do resemble my IE. Guess I'll get used to the new browser but I feel like I've lost an old friend.

Of course I had the same feeling many many years ago when I switched from Netscape to IE>

You could also look at Seamonkey and Pale Moon, which can use most of the same add-ons as Firefox.

If you don't like "modern" "streamlined" interfaces that hide useful features by default, check out Seamonkey.
