Have completed the search for items to be used in deciphering the torn piece of paper. Have the 2 wire hat forms, found the locket in the puzzle box, etc., pipe cleaners, etc.except the spirit lamp. The WT says to collect the spirit lamp from the buffet table in the dining car. The people are all seated for dinner, but the buffet table is clear but for 2 candelabra and a "sterling silver" coffee service. No lamp. Can't think what I'm missing. Help!

Looking at a walkthrough, there are many little things that you must do in order to proceed through the game.

Sometimes taking a look at a different WT can help - take a look at this one and see what steps you might have missed up to this point.

Thanks, Marian. I went back and realized I already had the lamp in inventory. Picked it up prior, and didn't realize what it was!

Hello! Stuck again. Am near the end of the game and have done all on Poirot's list, have checked out each item in inventory, I think I've exhausted all dialogues, but still Poirot says to "use the little grey cells", and I'm baffled about what I'm missing. The only thing I didn't pick up was the padlock from the hut when Antoinette was kidnapped. Now, can't find my way back. That padlock was never mentioned after that and it isn't in inventory, so I'm not sure of it's importance. Any clues?

Hi gillann,

The walkthrough states this:

Quote:
Lift prints from the Broken padlock, thick tumbler, stiletto and broken snowshoes.

I haven't played this game so don't know exactly how it works, but the line above makes it sound like the padlock is important. Possibly that is why you are at an impasse now.

I believe it's one of the items Antoinette has to dust for fingerprints, if memory serves (it's been awhile since I've done a full playthrough of the game)

Thanks, Marian. The broken padlock that Antoinette took from the hut on her first visit, was checked. The second padlock from her kidnapping is the one I don't have. It's not mentioned in the WT, though. I've dusted and printed everything the WT designated. The padlock is missing from the final list to check. I'll try to find the hut. Where did it go?

I found this information from the WT as well:

Quote:
Go outside to see who it was, and Antoinette will be kidnapped, and locked in the hut. Observe that the broken padlock from your own inventory was used to lock the door. Check your inventory. All your possessions are gone! Look around the hut. Find Princess Dragomiroff's parasol under the cot. Look out the window. The lock is out of your reach, but with the aid of the parasol, you should be able to dislodge the lock and escape.

Outside, the weather appears to be worsening. I'm not sure if you need to pick up the broken lock again, but it's evidence after all. I recommend taking it.

So, the broken lock may or may not be relevant to your problem.

I went back and retrieved the broken lock, but you're right, that does not seem to be the problem. I'd already gotten the fingerprints off of it. I re-checked Poirot's To do list, and the only one that has not been concluded is referring to checking the train again, to verify that none of the suspects are lying, etc. No one is talking to Antoinette, most of the crew has disappeared, and the key to the security door in the baggage car is no longer in inventory. I've rechecked each and every room, and spoken to everyone...Now what? I'm missing something, but haven't a clue to what it might be!

I wish I had some idea, but apart from looking at the walkthrough and/or watching walkthrough videos on YouTube, I don't. Maybe someone else who has played the game will have some suggestions for you. wave

Thanks, Marian..I've searched each and every car multiple times. rechecked the inventory, exhausted all conversations, checked several WTs and still cannot figure it out! Aaagh! I played this game years ago, but don't know what I'm missing.

Success! I went back to the very beginning of the WT, and realized that I'd come nearly to the end of the game without one item in inventory. It was a second handkerchief from one of the suspect's suitcase. I'd missed the case altogether. Found the hankie, and the game moved on to conclusion. Thanks for all the help!
