Do AMD cpu's tend to run cooler than Intel cpu's? Asking because of the much smaller heat sink on my AMD compared to the Intel and both being aprox. the same in power.

According to what I read in this thread
https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/435570-do-amd-products-run-hotter-than-intel/
AMD processors tend to run hotter but Intel processors have higher peak temperatures.

To get an idea of sizes, there's an article showing AMD coolers here
https://www.anandtech.com/Show/Index/105...-amd-vs-evo-212
and here for AMD Phenom
http://www.silentpcreview.com/amd-phenom-coolers
and here for AMD Ryzen
http://www.relaxedtech.com/reviews/amd/wraith-max-and-wraith-spire-cooler/1

If your computer has temperature sensors for the CPU, you can get an idea of whether your processor is being cooled adequately. If you're running processor-intensive games or other processor-intensive applications, you may want to replace the stock cooler with one that has greater cooling power.

The cooling power of the computer case can also affect how well the CPU cooler can cool. If your computer case tends to get hot inside, the CPU cooler has to have more cooling power.

That's a pretty "cool" video of a meltdown without a heatsink.

Modern AMD processors should shut down when they get too hot (like Intel processors) so they don't commit suicide. The older AMD processors (like the Palomino from 2001) didn't though.

When I was in school we tried to ruin a processor on purpose and it was very hard to destroy one.
They are built tough. They have no chance without a heatsink and fan though.
