My computer is at the repair shop as we speak. If they fix it I think I will pass on a reinstall of this game. Does anyone know if the bugs have been worked out on the download at GOG?

The download from GOG uses ScummVM and not the original game engine.
The original game engine would not work well at all on modern computers with current versions of Windows.

If you buy the GOG version, plan to run the game on your modern computer, not the older one.

I don't know why installing Lighthouse would mess up the computer. The computer might be "too new" or "too fast" to run Lighthouse if it's a Pentium III, but I don't see why problems would extend beyond running that particular game.

I can't remember what computer I ran Lighthouse on, whether it was the 233mhz or the 400mhz computer. But both computers had Windows 98, and I patched the game to version 2.0a before running it. My game discs were version 2.0 of Lighthouse. Is it possible you have version 1.0 of Lighthouse? Maybe there are additional problems with version 1.0 ?

I ran the game on my Win98SE machine - the specs of which I posted higher in this thread - but I don't know which version I ran as it was so long ago and I no longer have the disks.
But I DO remember having to use one or possibly more patches yes

You can find the patches at patches-scrolls.de
http://patches-scrolls.de/patch/2459/7/

"patch 2.0a" is 1.6 mb in size and is for version 1 of the game.

"patch 2.0 to 2.0a" is for version 2 and is much smaller (only about 22.2 kb) and "fixes errors that could occur around the submarine or in the compass in Lighthouse 2.0."

Thanks everyone for your input. I have the big box of yesteryear with the 2 disk in my den. I could always use the disks for coasters but NO reinstall I will buy the one from GOG.

Before blaming the game, see how well the computer works with the rest of your games. It looks like so far you had one game work and one game not work.

I'm not blaming the game I am just saying that once I order from GOG I have no need for the disk. Using the disk for coasters was just a vain attempt at humor.

I'm surprised you had to take it in for repairs so soon after you bought it. I hope the shop you took it to is capable of servicing older computers.

To this day I do not know HOW I missed up the display drivers. The repair said that was the problem. He also said, "it is a miracle the drivers were still available". I alone am totally responsible for the mishap and I am glad he was able to restore it All is well now that I reconnected it last night and installed a few older games and it is performing as it should. Once again thanks all. broccoli
