I can load the game and play, but I get no sound at all. Any ideas?

I also have the same problem with AnaCapri.

Joan, are you playing with an old disk? I tested the first 3 Carol Reed games for Mikael Nyqvist a couple of years ago for the Patch he developed for Windows 7. When I went to the MDNA website, the link for the patch for Remedy wasn't working. Have you tried using Compatibility?

The patch doesn't work. And I have tried compatibility and that doesn't work either. The game plays perfectly, there's just no sound.
I have also gotten these error messages on every frame - Windows Media Player "The file you are attempting to play has extension (.105) that does not match the file format. Playing the file may result in unexpected behavior. Do you want the Player to try to play this content? Yes/No."
Again, the game loads fine, graphics are fine, just no sound.

You should write to the developer and ask if he has a solution for your problem. He has email addresses posted on his website. I'm not sure if the one for Remedy is out of date, so you might want to check the email address he has linked to a newer game. For example the email linked on ***the Blue Madonna webpage*** or ***Amber's Blood webpage*** instead of on ***the Remedy webpage***.

It's possible your problem isn't related to your operating system at all and is related to what codecs you have installed instead. The developer is the best person to ask about which codecs the game uses.

Joan, you still didn't mention if this is an old disk game or a download. There are many complaints about the Big Fish Game download not having sound. If this is a BFG download, you can always contact them.

Sorry about that. It is an old disk game. I will try to contact MDNA. I will also try to update WMP. We actually just got this brand new computer a couple of weeks ago. I'll let you know if I have any success.

Well, I just got my solution. You aren't going to believe this. I had recently emailed MDNA to let them know that I received my copy of Amber's Blood in the mail. I had asked them if they had a new version compatible with windows because I was having a problem with the older games. Just a shot in the dark. Anyway, I just checked me email and there was an email from Mikael Nyqvist telling me they would send me a downloadable updated version for free. I think that's great! If anyone else is having the same problems, that's the route to take.
Thanks all for your input.

Now, that's what I call service! I remember he was such a great guy when I was testing the first three games on Windows 7 for him. And just, FYI, as I said in the post above, your Windows 7 already comes with Windows Media Player 12, the most recent version, so you can't update it.

Years later I went searching for this post. Confined to sitting up in bed this morning with a back problem and wanted to play Carol Reed games on win7 laptop. I emailed Mikael and meantime played the 4th and 5th games. I was just about to start the 6th when his email arrived providing download links for the first 3 games.

Beat that for customer service happydance It was especially considerate of Mikael to send his reply just before I started the next game lol

Mikael is terrific, isn't he? yes

I hope your back starts feeling better. In the meanwhile, Carol Reed is a nice relaxing way to pass the time. smile

Yes exactly. For those that know the feeling when you set your heart on playing a particular game, or series in my case. Despite the exciting parts, they are relaxing games amidst that music and scenery. Thanks for your good wishes but my back doesn't have to improve until after I finish The Birdwatcher grin
