This is just my two cents, and you have some wonderful suggestions already. Someone previously mentioned "Scratches." If you have never played it, be sure and find it. It was one of the really creepy/fun games ever. I might also suggest you play it while using earphones. It's a humdinger!

Ok, it will be a pleasure to tell you guys how our mega-session was smile
Thanks again for all the recommendations. I wrote every recommendation down,
because in addition to this three-day-marathon,
we meet up 3-4 times a year for one day and also play at the same time every 3-4 weeks,
each at his own place, chatting with skype during playing.
So at some point i will check all your recommendations.

@Jenny - well, what can i say? Thanks again for that long explanation smile
Maybe its because english is not my native language, there are 2-3 things
i don't quit understand:

1) What exactly is the definition of a 'mobile port'? Without your post,
i would have assumed a mobile port is something developed for
a mobile device like a smartphone (iphone, samsung galaxy etc) but this
does not make sense in this context here.

2) When you write 'All 1st person games from Kheops, Cryo, and xxx are stripped
down mobile ports xxx at GOG' you only mean Mac OS versions at GOG, right?
Because later on you write 'GOG seems to sell the original versions of windows game'
so these two statements would contradict each other unless you only meant the MacOS
version in the first sentence.
(i am talking only about GoG, i get that on Steam one has always to be careful
and check a lot of the user reviews to see if a game is an original or not,
no matter whether its Mac or Windows)

§) This might be a stupid question because i have mostly used Steam until now
and GoG only for one single game: How can i tell if a GoG game uses DosBox or ScummVM?
I always thought GoG has its own technology running in the background
to run the games. I was surprised to hear they use DosBox or ScummVM.

Btw, maybe you missed it, because you mention MacOs very often.
I have several Notebooks - one has MacOs and Win10 with Boocamp, another NB
with XP, yet another with Win7 and one with Win98. Si i have
lot of options. The only problem is buying a stripped down version because
of not being aware of it, but i will check carefully before buying from now on

Didn't see it in other responses, but I'd highly recommend Aporia for your gaming pleasure! Beautiful environments. Good length to game & pretty stable (for me anyway). You accumulate the story line as you go. Only one area where you have to figure out how to avoid a Big Meanie.

OMG, watched the first 1,5 clips on steam - it looks fantastic. Thanks!

Update: Well, unfortunately the reviews state its more of walking simulator and
the puzzles are few and optional. For us, puzzles are the most important part in
an adventure (in general). It still looks worth playing, we will stick with Sentinel
and Xing, though

Hi everyone,

so our mega-session is over, it was great fun.

We started our session Friday night at 11pm and played
Stanley Parable for two hours - just to warm up for the days to come smile
On Saturday we started playing Sentinel - Descendants of Time.
We played the game the whole day until midnight and continued on Sunday.
Jochen had a great run and finished the game on Sunday 1pm,
while I got stuck on 2 locations because i did not pay close attention
and needed almost the whole Sunday to finish it.
Because Jochen finished it earlier, he played The Witness until i was also finished with
Sentinel (Jochen had only played The Witness 1,5 hours before, so he basically started
playing The Witness on Sunday 1pm)
Sunday night, when i had finished Sentinel, Jochen stopped playing The Witness and
we both had a look at Zork, Grand Inquisitor (Jochen stopped The Witness because
we prefer to play the same game simultaneously, even though
each of us plays at his own NB, so we don't play a game on one NB as a team) It looked nice,
but somehow we were not in the mood for such kind of a game, so we switched to Xing.
Xing looked really beautiful, we played it for 2 hours i think and then i went to bed.
On monday morning, our last gaming day, for some reason i got motion sick by playing Xing
(i think i was too tired after two days of gaming so i was more prone to it),
so we stopped playing it. As there was not enough time to start a complete new game
and finish it on the one remaining day (it was 10:30 am or so), we decided as an exception that Jochen would
continue with The Witness and i would play Monkey Island 3, which is basically
the only remaining game of the popular classical point' and click games i never played.
I liked MI 3, but not enough to not resort to a walkthrough when i got stuck
(When i really like a game very much, i almost never use a walkthrough, but with MI 3, i was
not willing to spent several hours of my life figuring out to use object x with object y
by just trying every combination because there is no logical clue what to do)

Jochen was very impressive again and finished The Witness at 1:30am
(on monday he played it 14 hours in a row, with no break except eating, drinking and peeing ;-)
and i finished MI 3 a couple of minutes later.

We had a great time, we liked Sentinel very much, but definitely think its
a level below Schizm 1, Rhem-series and Myst-series. And of course, just as i did,
Jochen liked The Witness very much, we think its a very special game
(i played and solved it a couple of weeks ago alone)

Thanks again for your recommendations!

What does NB stand for?
Obviously it's not "nota bene" which is the usual definition.

Jenny - I'm thinking notebook? He mentioned having several.

mike-bn - Thanks for letting us know how it went. I played the Myst series but haven't yet played Schizm or Rhem to make any comparisons with Sentinel. I can't even compare it to Myst in the way you are, saying it is a level below. It's been a long time since I played Myst. I'm sure Myst was harder and more involved, if that's what you mean by a level below.

Will you be going back to Xing at some point? I get motion sickness too. Even in Sentinel, it took a while to get used to moving and then I still had to move more slowly when going back and forth too much.

A shorter game that was listed in your original post is Lunar Deep. (In case you want to note that for future reference.)

@Jenny: Yes, oldbroad is right, i meant 'notebook'. Here in germany we shorten it by NB,
i was not aware that this is not a common way to do in english

@oldbroad:
1)We will definitley go back to Xing. Actually, its probably the next game
we will play. Most of the time, I can avoid motion sickness by playing with an external
keyboard and putting the NB-screen more far away than usual, so i think i will have no problems.
When Jochen was here, there was no place for that (we sat at the same desk), so i switched as described to MI 3.
After playing Sentinel two days in a row for over 20 hours, i wasn't able to concentrate
100% anymore anyway, so i think it was even better to not play another Myst-Clone.

Xing looks nice, we played till the end of level 1 and if the puzzles get harder,
it could be a really good game.

2) About Sentinel beeing a level below the myst series and rhem:
In my opinion, Sentinel has 3 major weaknesses.

a) A lot of puzzles were too easy. Especially the puzzles in two worlds
were neither difficult, nor creative.

b) the puzzles were not embeeded in the environment at all, they had no purpose

c) the game was too linear (excpet for the order of the worlds), which reduces complexity and diminishes the
feeling of really exploring the world. Its just more or less
a sequence of puzzles.

But again, we still liked it, we would rate it around 'B'

Aside from Xing, we will definitely take a look at the other games you guys recommended
at some point. I googled some of them and a lot of them seemed very interesting to me.

Oh, the puzzles definitely get harder in Xing! Sounds like you are having fun...

Thanks for explaining about Sentinel vs Myst & Rhem.

I think those were some of the things I liked about Sentinel lol

Right now, as Jochen has also completed The Witness, we are pondering
whether we should try to 100% the game.

Small spoiler warning about The Witness - stop reading here smile

We are not sure if it is too tedious to find all +135 environment puzzles.
I completed the game with only +10 or so and the task of finding
all +135 sounds more like work than having fun.

Maybe we will only try to turn on all lasers.
Is it correct that one can play The Challenge when all 11 lasers are turned on?
Or is it required to have all +135?

In any way, after The Witness, Xing will most likely be the next game we will play.

As i have given up hope on The Last Crown ever to be released, the only game
who could change this order is Rhem V - but as Knut is working on the SE-versions,
that will take a while, i guess.

In case you haven't looked at "Ghost of a Tale" there is a preview here. I usually don't play a game like this but I was intrigued by the graphics and story line so I gave it a try. You should know, it is a game where the character can die (I don't know if that matters to you or not.) It is quite long - in my opinion.

The other game I mentioned to you previously was "Gorogoa" which is an unusual puzzle game. If you haven't already, you may want to take a look at the preview here.

Both of these games are on GOG.

Thanks, rmelone.

The game you recommend looks nice, but it seems to be more of a RPG than an
adventure to me. When i was a student i used to play RPG as well
(i LOVED Ultima and played all of them except for the last one) but now
as an adult with a job, i dont have time to play both genres and only play adventures.

You're right, Ghost of a Tale is kind of a mix between an adventure and RPG.

I don't know if you like puzzle type games but Gorogoa is one of the best I've ever seen.

Good luck with your games.
