Does anyone know how to get rid of all those extra items Microsoft has added to this screen? I don't mind the photos, but I don't need things such as black Friday suggestions and several things on this screen, I find it very annoying.

No, you can't get rid of all that stuff. You can bypass the welcome screen altogether though.

Getting rid of the screen would involve no longer entering a password. I don't use a password on my desktop, but I do use one on my Surface tablet.

You used to be able to use Classic Shell, to make your start
screen look like the one in XP or Windows 7.

Unfortunately some versions of Windows 10 don't work with it anymore (thanks to Microsoft).
http://www.classicshell.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=8457

However there is something called "Open-shell" (formerly known as "Classic start") that some people recommend and which does something similar.

also mentioned in the last post of the classic shell forum
http://www.classicshell.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=8147&start=150

If you don't want to install a utility like "Open-shell", you used to be able to get rid of individual squares on the Start Menu by right-clicking them and choosing to "unpin" them. I don't know if that still works though.

Draclvr I'm going to try your suggestion and get rid of that screen and also no log in any time I do a start up.

Jenny100 I don't really have a problem with the start menu just that pesky welcome window.

Thank you both for your help and may you both have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
