Hello all, I think I have done another dumb thing. I recently purchased (From GOG) a game called AliceVR. I had read a couple reviews that stated "Play this on a desktop!" which lead me to believe that I could do that. The game downloaded to my desktop without trouble, but won't start up. Have I made an error? Is there a way to set up and play AliceVR as an old-fashioned adventure-type game? More likely, have I foolishly blown another ten bucks because I didn't read carefully enough. Should you have the urge to mock me, feel free. I have a feeling that I deserve it.

Thank You for the info. I think that once again my old graphics card won't handle the new games. I'll add AliceVR to my GOG collection of "Games I can't play until I get new computer."

Which video card do you have, Haze?
The Geforce GTX 660 and Radeon HD 7870 are video cards from 2012.
They were great cards in their time, but if you have a newer card it may be equal or better than these.

I can't seem to find that info. I ran my system info page and know I have a Gateway built in 2014 which operates on Windows 7 (Home) and has 8096 RAM available. The only mention of card I see states "Intel(R) HD Graphics Family." I also know it won't run the newest Holme's game (The Devil's Daughter), Obduction, or Syberia 3. I am reasonably sure that when I bought this computer I bought the wrong something. I am absolutely sure that the fault is mine and no-one else's. Whatever the problem, it'll be a while yet before I get a new or upgraded machine, so I guess I'll replay some old games and revisit URU for the umpteenth time. (It's still my favorite.) Thanks for the help.

Intel(R) HD Graphics Family means you have integrated video. To play the games you mentioned, you need a stand alone video card. Time to start stuffing a sock as my grandmother used to say and start saving up for a new computer!

Draclvr: I appreciate that comment and will keep it well in mind. I have actually begun the saving process, but can't help notice that things get to get more expensive at a faster rate than I can save. Ah well, I'm never more that one lottery ticket away from vast wealth. Until that proverbial ship comes in I'll simply play older games. (Besides, I may not need new gear. This computer in not the only thing that's getting older more quickly than I planned.)

I have notice that same thing - especially when I passed by 70!
