I just finished playing Dark Parables: The Little Mermaid and the Purple Tide, and I was glad to see you could go back and get the "Parable" objects that you missed.

Do any of the other Dark Parables games allow you to do this?

Not sure about all of them, but Little Mermaid was developed by Eipix rather than Blue Tea, and I suspect that the Dark Parables games by Eipix probably all include this feature. Perhaps someone else can confirm.

I can't recall, and I've played most of the Dark Parables. I don't make a point of searching for Collectibles, just nab them if I see them. Sometimes, they are so easy to see that you can't help picking them up, though, so I do like a game that will let me go back if I've missed a couple. There often is a small reward of some sort.

I've played all of them up through #14 Salt Princess, but for most of them I didn't check to see if you could go back to get the pieces you missed because I wasn't aware you could do that with any of them. The ones I've replayed are mostly the early ones like Snow Queen that don't allow you to go back.

Did Blue Tea have anything to do with making Little Mermaid at all? One of the things you could collect in the game was Blue Teas. If you saw a cup of tea anywhere in the game, you could click it until it turned blue and would get credit for finding it.

Dark Parables games are the only ones where I do try to collect things. Usually I get SE versions of games to avoid that kind of thing, but for some reason Dark Parables games get a pass.

Just looked this up, and it appears that Dark Parables 8 through 13 were developed by Eipix. As I said before, I suspect that all of these allow you to go back, but I could be wrong.

I don't know if Blue Tea Games had any hand in Little Mermaid.

You may be right about the Eipix Parables games.
The list I got from Wikipedia is

2.1 Part 1 - Curse of Briar Rose (11 March 2010)
2.2 Part 2 - The Exiled Prince (25 February 2011)
2.3 Part 3 - Rise of the Snow Queen (2 December 2011)
2.4 Part 4 - The Red Riding Hood Sisters (21 September 2012)
2.5 Part 5 - The Final Cinderella (23 May 2013)
2.6 Part 6 - Jack and the Sky Kingdom (6 February 2014)
2.7 Part 7 - Ballad of Rapunzel (26 June 2014)
2.8 Part 8 - The Little Mermaid and the Purple Tide (13 November 2014)
2.9 Part 9 - The Queen of Sands (21 May 2015)
2.10 Part 10 - Goldilocks and the Fallen Star (19 November 2015)
2.11 Part 11 - The Swan Princess and the Dire Tree (7 July 2016)
2.12 Part 12 - The Thief and the Tinderbox (22 September 2016)
2.13 Part 13 - Requiem for the Forgotten Shadow (24 February 2017)
2.14 Part 14 - Return of the Salt Princess (15 March 2018)
2.15 Part 15 - The Match Girl's Lost Paradise (1 November 2018)

So I'd have to check one of the ones before Little Mermaid and after Snow Queen to see if Blue Tea ever allowed going back to pick up what you missed. Snow Queen certainly didn't -- you can't even access the Parables after you finish the game. I liked Snow Queen but the bonus content wasn't much.

One trick I noticed is that when you go back for Parables, you have to be sure to select the Parable with missing parts over on the left hand page before you click on the right hand page to go back and look for it.

There was some game with bonus content that let you do a jigsaw puzzle out of the pieces you found, but I don't remember if that was a Dark Parables game or not.

Thanks for the list, Marian. I checked it against mine and I see I missed two of the games (Match Girl and Swan Princess). The series is good, but gets repetitive, so I try to put some time in between each game. But now I know I have two games to look for when the next sale hits. happydance

I'll play maybe three of them, and then I'll want to play something else.
Some of them are better than others.

Exactly. The stand-outs for me were the stories about Rapunzel, Briar Rose, Cinderella and the Little Mermaid (titles abbreviated). Which ones did you like?

It's been a long time since I played some of them, but I remember I liked Briar Rose, Snow Queen, Little Mermaid, and Forgotten Shadow.

Three I did not care for so much were Red Riding Hood Sisters, Queen of Sands, and Salt Princess.

EDIT --

I've started playing The Final Cinderella (after two Hallowed Legends games) and I'm enjoying it a lot. I'd forgotten how much I'd liked the music for this one (the music that plays during object searches). So I'm adding this to the favorites list.

As of today I've finished a replay of Swan Princess.
I think you'll enjoy it if you enjoyed Rapunzel.

I just finished a replay of Forgotten Shadow.
For some reason it wasn't nearly as good as I remembered. I was remembering a lot more to the story, and I don't know where that came from. I wonder if I had a dream about the game at some point and was confusing the dream with the actual game.

I still liked Briar Rose, Snow Queen, Little Mermaid, Cinderella, and some of the others on a replay.

Forgotten Shadow almost seemed like it was from a different series. I don't think it was based on any fairy tale, not that that matters a huge deal. The FrOG scenes were really difficult and I had a lot of trouble seeing fragments -- even after cheating to have them pointed out. I didn't have this trouble with the FrOG scenes in Cinderella, Snow Queen, Swan Princess, or other earlier games in the series. The developers seem to think everyone has a huge monitor, but some of us like to play these games on laptops for portability.

So this means #11 Swan Princess is the most recent one I'd put "near the top of the list" (as opposed to being meh about). None of the Dark Parables that I've played are bad games, but some are definitely more enjoyable than others.

Jenny, I found this on a Dark Parables Wiki:

Quote
Requiem for the Forgotten Shadow is the thirteenth installment in the Dark Parables franchise. The game takes place in the fictional town of Anaben at the foot of the Swiss Alps. As the Fairytale Detective, we are sent to investigate a mysterious illness that is turning the people of Anaben into shadows of their former selves.

This game is (rather loosely) based on Hans Christian Andersen's The Shadow (Skyggen).

That's similar to a story you find in a book in the candlemaker's house early in the game.
Usually when you find reading material in a game it relates to the story in the game, and may also provide clues. In this case it didn't, and I didn't understand why it was there.

I always thought the "forgotten" shadow was meant to be the cat because the shadow god was certainly not "forgotten."

That's interesting, Jenny. It's been a while since I played the game. Maybe it's time to revisit it.

It's certainly interesting to replay these games.
Sometimes my opinion of a game changes since the time when I last played it.

Be sure to post if you decide to replay it.
I'd be interested to know what you think of it.

I certainly will, Jenny, when I have had a chance to play it again.

I have found that my opinion sometimes changes on a game the second time around, too. Not sure why this is the case, although sometimes I think my opinion is influenced by my mood at the time.

Marian: I thought I read that Blue Tea is now under the Eipix umbrella.

My opinion also changes upon replaying games sometimes, and as you say Marian, sometimes it really is just a mood thing. Sometimes though, atmospheres just aren't as remembered. And as Jenny said earlier, you remember things differently, maybe due to dreams or possibly books, movies, or other games played inbetween that get meshed up somehow.

If you look here it explains the ins and outs of Eipix/Blue Tea's relative involvement. For a while Eipix took over the series in both production and development, but according to this article, games #14 and #15 were again developed by Blue Tea with Eipix still being the producer.
