I got through quite a bit of Amnesia before life intervened and I lost track of the game. It was a bit freaky at first, but once I used to the game's mechanics it didn't seem so bad.

I just installed SOMA and have to say, it's pretty darned creepy. I'm crouched in a corner in the first level, quivering, eek and don't dare move... lol

Which is scarier? Amnesia or Soma? grin

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Oh, Amnesia by a long, long shot for me anyway! Soma was unsettling, but never terrifying like Amnesia. I had to stop playing during the dungeons because I was so totally freaked out at one point - and this was my second play through! I could not play it at night when I was up late by myself at all.

Hm. I'm finding those stompy robots a bit unnerving...

I do remember being chased through a water room with rocks, in Amnesia, and feeling a sense of real panic, though nothing like the tentacle monster in Call of Cthulhu. I still think that game had the two most terrifying game sequences ever.

I'd forgotten how much I "enjoy" being terrified half to death. lol

I think my sheer terror in Amnesia was because there was nothing to do but hide and because they sort of amorphous and undefined. It just made it all the more scary to me! The robots in Soma didn't bother me as much.

The unseen terror is the worst, I agree. In The Exorcist, the horror was known. In the Legend of Hill House, you never actually see anything, you just hear it. Way scarier.

I consider Soma one my favorite games for the storyline alone. I need to play it again... it's been a couple of years.

EDIT: So, you got me doing a replay of SOMA! Only reinforces my opinion that it's one of the best games ever!

I'm enjoying it, except that I got fatally stuck in a room with a spectre roaming outside, one of the ones that isn't supposed to kill you unless you get too close or look at it. It periodically comes in and kills me. I think I'll have to make a break for it.

Either that, or start again. I could get to where I am in about an hour now, knowing what I know so far.

When it goes away, make a break for it! I had to do that several times... sometimes I made it and sometimes I didn't!

I loved running into a room to hide in a corner behind some crates. My heart is pounding right along with the guy that is hiding, & then crouching down to sneak out to see if the monster is gone. I could only play a couple of hours at a time & then take a break. Fantastic game. I haven't played SOMA yet, I'll have to give that one a try.

Same here, Judith! I could only play for a short period of time. SOMA is similarly scary, especially later on. But the story is what I love about the game.

I've been waiting for it to give up and go away, but it doesn't -- it always comes back. I'll have to deke out the second it goes into the next room.

I actually took a frustration break from SOMA for a while to check out another game I've had in my queue for a while -- Stalker: Call of Pripyat. Not sure how I feel about it. It's vaguely like Fallout, but without the humour and charm. Plus, the world is almost completely empty. I might be back in SOMA before too long.

Gee, that sounds sort of depressing. Yup, you're going to have to make a run for it! Hopefully you know which way to go! There were times, I tried my escape just to map out where I was going... let myself get caught and next time I knew where to go.

Actually, I have no idea where I am right now. The beast started chasing me and I just ran. Unfortunately I'm in a huge twisty area with many was to go, so I'm lost.

I wonder if you are in the same place I was when I thought I would never get that door open in time to get past the beast. There is a place near the end where you circle through several rooms and end up facing a vault type door that takes a while to open. The beast would always kill me

I eventually realized if I got the beast to chase me by turning right in front of the door and running through the rooms that created a loop, I could get to the door in time to get it open. I think I had more trouble navigating the seabed than the encounters with the beast. I kept getting turned around and lost.

Stalker: Call of Pripyat is one of my favorite games. It creates one of the greatest atmospheres in all the games I've played.

Edit....I checked the Game Pressure guide and I'm pretty sure it was Tau station where I had the problem with the beast.

If it's the same place, hagatha is, you run into that beast quite soon after you enter Tau. I clicked the door to start the unlock sequence and then ran and crouched somewhere while I waited the eternity for the door to unlock!

I got lost on the seabed all the time too!

Pokey, I just finished Call of Pripyat and decided that it's actually a pretty good game after all, though it's quite short. Zombies! Invisible boogeymen! Poltergeists! Weird mind-control dwarf-thingies! Lots and lots of cool upgradeable weapons! Cute Russian guys! I just spent too much time wandering aimlessly, and I feel my game suffered for that. I should have gone gangbusters on the quests and artefacts. I might cruise on backwards in the series and try Call of Chernobyl sometime.

As for SOMA, I'll be back in there tomorrow, once I get the rest of my garden planted - we had a tough winter and lost many plants that are normally hardy on the coast. I'll make a dash for it and try to work out where I am. I think it's a big ship. I vaguely remember that I'm supposed to find a vessel that can withstand something-or-other.

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

You should play Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl. It's very good with lots of different areas to visit. I ended up playing all three games including Clear Sky, which didn't get as good reviews, but I enjoyed it. It revisits some of the areas from the first game.

I thought the ship was one of the worst areas. So hard to find your way around and avoid the beast.

I thought Soma was a great game and might replay it sometime, something I very rarely do.

I started Shadow of Chernobyl recently and was completely befuddled, not sure what to do. I found Pripyat much easier, and having played that I now understand how the game works.

Haven't had a chance to get back to SOMA. Too many Spring chores.

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.
