Yes, quite a study in contrasts! grin

And I don't approve when a Big Fish reviewer complains about technical problems. Most of the time, such problems are not experienced by everyone, and thus it seems inappropriate and unfair to the developer.

I just finished the Demo and definitely plan to buy it. It is moody and clever, the mini-games are a challenge (and creative). There are the usual Collectibles. You do all the usual stuff (find and fix what is broken) and gather all the missing inventory needed for various scenes. The voice acting is OK (but so loud that I had to turn it down to 30%). The HO scenes are a bit tough, being dark and obscure, but I can deal. I play for the puzzles and they are great! Two thumbs up!

One thing I read about the collectibles is that they don't always appear the first time you are in a scene - they sometimes appear later on. I like that, as it makes things more interesting.

One the other hand. a demo can serve as a Beta test for glitches. I know. The game should be ready for prime time when it's issued. But sometimes not all the bugs have been identified at that point.

Sure, that can certainly be true, Sparkle. I already know a couple of people who have played all of Ms. Holmes with no problems, though, and it seems to me that such comments in a review might lead to some people dismissing it when there is in fact no need to do so.

Having said that, I do wish that there was still a separate Big Fish forum for people to report technical problems with games. I found those comments useful on more than one occasion if I had experienced a particular issue with a game.

I wouldn't avoid a game from one person/reviewer having a problem but if there were a lot of people having problems I might.

I too miss the Big Fish forum, Marian. There’s lots of help here at GB, buy when a game has been out for a while, it’s hard for people to remember specifics.

Most developers are good about fixing technical difficulties in a timely manner. I get your point about someone hesitating to buy a game if there’s a possibility of a technical problem. As a longtime BFG customer, I rarely worry about technical difficulties since I know they are either fixed eventually or BFG will issue a credit. Those who may be new members, non-members, or buy few games would likely see things differently.

Absolutely! You'd think they were making plenty of money on the games, enough to hire some humans to help buyers get past glitches and enjoy their games. After all, that just makes for more loyal, repeat buyers (speaking from experience).

June 14: I'm almost finished with the main game (I bought the CE, so the Bonus Game awaits happydance). Kudos to this design crew for some quirky and original puzzles, some of which are a puzzle just to figure out what to do even before you try to solve them. ha ha They also brought something new to the run-of-the-mill HO scene.

I do have a quibble about their beta testing, however. One puzzle simply didn't work at all (you could try to click on the pieces but they would not Select, so they could not be manipulated to solve the puzzle), and this puzzle had to be Skipped Another puzzle was Inventory-based, and required four pieces to be found and inserted. When I inserted the third piece I found, it "Solved" the puzzle prematurely. Oddly, I later found the fourth piece; it went into my Inventory along with the other three that suddenly re-appeared out of thin air. This kind of stuff ought not to arise on an issued game.
