Typically a flash drive is a small device about 2" long and 3/4" wide that is carried from one computer to another and plugged into a usb port to use. Normally the drives are already formatted and can be read as a normal disk when plugged into a usb port.

In my case, since I have dial-up instead of broadband, I download large files at my library. I then transfer the files to my flash drive on the library computer and take the drive home to transfer the files to my home computer. In fact, the library sells flash drives at a nominal price for just this purpose.

As for size, that depends on how you want to use the drive. I've two, a 2GB and a 16GB. I've needed to larger one to transfer very large files such as copies of game DVDs.

32 GB is plenty for documents, pictures, downloads etc. The Steam app can be redownloaded at any time. But for your entire C drive? Probably not enough space. If you reset to factory, all you really need is your files, not the rest of the stuff. You can create an image of your computer, but that would take special software and more space. Besides, if you are resetting to factory, you must be trying to solve some problems. An image would just copy the problems too.
