I'm thinking about giving up on BF. Lately all they have had are TM games! What's going on? I say ENOUGH!

I read somewhere that January is often the month where a lot of the developers observe the holidays and take a break for a bit. I think that the TM games had been getting backlogged and that they are pushing them out now.

According to another website that I frequent, there will be at least one new HOPA CE next week, and maybe two.

And honestly, there are so many CE HOPAs on the Big Fish website now, I find it hard to believe that players could not find other HOPAs to play for a couple of weeks while the TM players get some new offerings. wave

I understand Laurette's plaint, as I have experienced the same sense of being in a "Dry Season" at BF, and I do quite a bit of noodling around in past-issue games. Yes, there are a LOT of games on offer at BF, but no more than half of them are HOA genre. There are lots of TM, bubble-popper and arcade games in the mix. Not of interest to an HOA player. Some of the games on BF are part of a series that we may know (from having played one) and we know they aren't worth our money or are old games (and old games usually mean greater emphasis on HO scenes and less on "adventure" and puzzles). Basically, I am saying that quantity is not the same thing as quality.

For years, I have maintained a spreadsheet on the BF games I have played because I once bought one on line that I forgot I already had purchased as a CD in a game store. So I check my list before buying. I rate every game I play, including a short text description of its attributes. Some games are excellent, and if they are part of a series, I might have played all in that series, and will buy a new issue from that series on sight. But my list also is replete with bad games, and a note as to why I rejected each game (silly, boring, childish, glitchy, too easy, muddy artwork, abusive theme, etc.) I have 650 games on my list. Only about 30 were good enough that they made my A List, 40 that made my B List and 110 on my C List. That is 180 games out of 650, and those 650 were culled from a couple thousand offered at BF. Still, BF is the best source, so we stay with it and keep our eyes open.

We gamers have to accept that game companies survive by offering what sells. If more people want to play TM or Arcade stuff or pop bubbles, then that is what they'll offer at BF instead of good HOA games. It has been that way since computer games came along. There always have been more Action-based games offered than puzzle-heavy Adventure games. So, it isn't new nor wrong for us to wish more games were offered to our taste.

I was having lag in Welcome to Primrose Lake. Don't know if there was an update or not, but the game is okay for me now. It's a nice game.

I’d say that it’s complicated. There are so many directions a developer can go now. Some games are easier to create. It takes many team members to create the quality of HOPA games we’ve come to expect. There are still developers working on HOPA’s, but maybe not as many as before. And mobile games are very popular with the true casual gamers. At the moment, I'm pretty stocked up on HOPA’s I’ve yet to play and demos I plan to buy with the next good sale. . I’m okay with waiting for the next offerings.

ETA: And to confirm what Marian said about holidays, many developers are located in Eastern Europe where they observe the Orthodox calendar.

I don't have any problem with finding a Big Fish game that will suit me ....They have such a massive catalogue.

And whilst every game in it might not be my cup of tea it will surely be perfect for "someone" yes

Why’s that, Guybrush?

I'm going to guess - too many TM games released this past week?

I don’t see why that would be a reason to cancel membership.

I don’t either. But just last week I bought two HOPA CE’s in the BO/GO sale. You can save up your monthly game club credits and use them any time. They don’t expire. And you can use two credits to buy a CE. Of course, it’s up to you.

Hi, Guybrush!

I'm not interested in Time Management games either. Since the Game Club credits don't expire, I'm saving them and using the coupon codes that are about to expire to pick up a couple of Nancy Drew games I haven't played yet.

I find that there's something for everyone at BFG, and I get good value for my money. Hopefully, the developers of HOGs have taken time off for the holidays and we'll see new releases shortly.

Susan

It feels like they are trying to cut costs and branch out at the same time.
Someone at the board meeting should have said "if it ain't broke, don't fix it!"
Or "don't mess with success!!)

I just checked my purchase history - have only bought two games since November. That's a very low rate for me.

I agree Tally Ho that they are trying to do something, but only they seem to know what and why. I do not think the changes are for the better. Just MY opinion! I haven't purchased any games from them since August and I used to purchase multiple games usually every month. frown

Me, too, oldbroad. I have demo-ed a few but only bought one. I am mostly replaying games I already own, waiting for something better to come along.

My issue is with the lack of sales that they used to have for non-members. I have a whole list of games I would buy - at the right price wink Since I really don't need anymore games, I will just wait - for now anyway.

I've only played one TM game, the now ancient SimCity. I think it was issued in 2000. It may have been the game that started sim culture.

I was a designer, and it appealed to me to build my own simulated City from scratch and keep it running well. After all, my job involved designing complete environments, especially the overseas projects. Of course, we had teams of engineers expert in each area plus local consultants, so we didn't work in a vacuum.

Anyway, one of the design heads at our firm also got the game for Christmas that year. We were the only two in our office playing the game, but we were addicts. happydance I never developed carpal tunnel syndrome from the years of my design/drawing work, but did get it from obsessively playing SimCity in my off hours.

I agree! It's getting a bit annoying since there are only 2 days with CE's; it appears that's all BF has left to offer. Could we start a petition?
