Does anyone remember the game where you solve puzzles in a book that you carry with you? You can't solve them all at once, but as you progress in the game you're able to solve certain pages and get clues from the book -- and I think sometimes you could even get objects out of the book that you could use in the game environment.

The game is at least two years old, and could be quite a bit older, though not more than 10 years older.

It was an unusual game mechanic that I don't remember seeing in any other games, and I thought I'd like to replay it if I could figure out what it was.

I haven't played this game, but could it be Book of Legends? It's more than ten years old, though. The game isn't even listed on Big Fish anymore, but you can find the download link by googling.

You can still purchase the game from Big Fish for $6.99; it just isn't shown on the page that lists all the hidden object games.

This probably isn't the right game, anyway. smile And Jenny already has the game that she is looking for.

It is definitely not Book of Legends (which I bought in 2008).
I don't think the game I'm thinking of is over 10 years old.

I don't believe the game had the word "Book" in the title.

I can't remember if you have to collect any of the pages of the book or not.

The graphics were somewhat dark and "gritty" if I recall correctly.
They certainly weren't bright and cheerful.
I think the game had supernatural or paranormal themes, symbols and such.

I played the second Azada but not the first one. Not sure about the game mechanics of Azada.

No. Nothing like Azada.
It's a Hidden object game, not a puzzle game, and the graphics are definitely dark, which none of the Azada games are.

You are not entering a book. You are carrying one as a tool.
Every so often you find something you can use in the book, which gives you a clue or an object you can use in the environment.

Reading your description over again, I think it is Shadow Shelter.

That looks like it could be an interesting game, but it's not in my Big Fish list of purchased games.
Also the game I'm thinking of didn't have the inventory on the top.

How about Love Chronicles: A Winter's Spell? You carry a book around with you and you complete the puzzles page by page. You collect items in the game to enable the next puzzle.

Did you ever stop to think and then forget to start again?

Thanks for the suggestion, but it can't be that one.
I have other games from of the Love Chronicles series but not that one (I own #'s 1,2,3, and 5). The game I'm thinking of is one I own and have played twice in the past (though not recently).
Also I checked the other Love Chronicles games and the graphics are more fairy-tale-like than the game I'm thinking of, which has more gritty graphics and is not a fairy-tale-themed game. It's paranormal-themed, with esoteric symbols and such.

Also I've checked all my games with the word "Book" in the title, and it's none of those, so the game doesn't have the word "Book" in the title. Possibly some synonym for the word book, but I don't think so.

The Emptiness did have a sort of book where you'd collect clues, but the game I'm thinking of wasn't The Emptiness.

Hi, Jenny!

I just went through my list of games and came across "The Keeper of Antiques: The Revived Book". Could that be the one you're looking for? It was released in 2016.

I don't own that one, Susan.

I suppose I could list the games I own, but considering there are over 900 of them...

Is it possible that you could have listed it as one of your favorites in a past year, back when people here were posting their favorite casual games? If so, you might be able to pull that up in a search.

It's not one of the games I suggested in that thread, and I don't think I recommended it in any other thread. Now someone else might have recommended it at some point.

Well, unlike the other suggestions in this thread, I don't really remember the Nevertales games at all. I have the first four in the series, and will check them out in more detail, but a cursory glimpse at the graphics on YouTube playthroughs suggests the graphics in the Nevertales games are more "colorful" than the game I'm thinking of. Also I'm not seeing the book on the screen (it should be in the lower right), ready for you to open it up and put things in it (things like cards, symbols, amulets). Of course it can be hard to tell what's going on when you're skipping through a YouTube playthrough, so I'll have to check the Nevertales games out myself. I see they're already installed on my computer, so obviously I was planning to replay them anyway (and forgot due to CRS as often happens).

+_+_+_+_+_+_+_+

EDIT -- Well it's definitely not the first Nevertales, which is certainly a fairy-tale-type game and not a paranormal game. Also though there are books in Nevertales #1, it's not one single book that you carry around with you. The puzzles in Nevertales are much easier than the ones in the game I was thinking of too. I'll check the other Nevertales, but I don't think the game I was thinking of is from this series.

I checked all the Nevertales games I own and the game is not one of those.

Is there a list of paranormal-themed Hidden object games anywhere?

I am not aware of such a list, Jenny, if there is one.

Can you remember if this game came out as a Collector's Edition or whether it was a standard-version game only? That might help narrow it down just a little.

I'm almost positive it had a Collector's version, and most likely it's from the time when I'd have bought the Collector's version. In other words the Collector's version would have had a Bonus game but not the superfluity of pop-ups and slide-ins that they started to put in a lot of later Collector's versions. It's hard to put a year on this "superfluity" because not all games were equally bad about pop-ups.

I think it was 2015 when I stopped buying CE versions because of extra pop-ups and slide-ins, so I'm going to the game was from before 2015 and had a Collector's version. It's probably no older than Angelic Night, so between 2011 and 2015.

Well, that helps narrow it down a bit. I have been looking through the CEs, particularly the ones with paranormal elements, and I can't understand why the title remains elusive. I haven't played all the CEs during that time period but did have at least a passing familiarity with most of them. Will let you know if I come up with anything.

Thanks, Marian.
I know it can be hard to figure out what a game is by someone else's description. We tend to remember different things about a game. I remember being very confused about one game someone was asking about -- and other people were confused too -- and the game turned out to be the well-known game Syberia that we've all played at least once. The person asking what game it was had remembered completely different things about the game from everyone else.

So it's quite possible other people have played the game I'm thinking of and don't remember the book in the lower right corner or the unusual way you'd interact with it.

In fact, if we had a "guess the game" thread where the "leader" would give clues about a game and other people would try to guess what it was, it would probably be too difficult for most people to contribute. "Guess the game" is hard enough with adventure games. With HOPA's there are a bazillion of them and they tend to blend together.
