Just finished The Mystery of the Druids. This could have been an awesome game but it had a couple irritating features that distracted from the game, for me.
1) You never knew if you had to question someone more than once and had to listen to the conversation all over again to find out. (Gelert mentions this in another post)
2) Had some really tiny hot spots that were hard to find even when you knew they were suppose to be there.
3) I didn't care about the main character (as a person) until halfway through the game.

Do you have a game that made you feel this way?

How about games where you couldn't figure out the puzzles/problem with the information given. EX: Syberia at the locks. Where did the numbers come from to operate them...thin air? Even the walkthroughs give no explanations for the numbers used!

Actually the locks numbers could be found, if you thought about what you would do in real life. There is a card on the machine with a number to call. Use your cell phone and listen to the message. It tells you what sequence to punch in to raise and then lower the locks. Then you go to the lock machine after you get the key (I think there's a key) and punch in that sequence to raise then lower when you need it to.

As for games that could have been. Yep Thorgal is head of that list in terms of new games. If they had left out the action bits and timed bits - would have been a good game.

Okay, when I dialed the number on my cell phone and hit the options to raise or lower the water, they told me the technician was on vacation and to operate them manually, but didn't tell me how. Did I miss something?

The numbers that were used to raise and lower the lock were the numbers that you entered into your cellphone before you were told that the tech was on vacation, etc.

Okay, I get it NOW, but how was I supposed to get that? It's a little (a lot) vague. Actually, it doesn't really make sense.

You are right, it doesn't make sense. That gives me an idea for another one of my posts... laugh

I would have to say Cameron Files and Sherlock Holmes. They both had timed elements and action that I absolutely hate. mad

The Arthur's Knights games would have been considerably more enjoyable if it wasn't for doors and the clumsy method of collecting and using inventory.

THE SPACE BAR

An ingenious concept ruined by constant disc-swapping, a timed puzzle taking up 1/2 of the game, and numerous other little quirks.

Timed sequences can definitely ruin a game frown

Dark Side of the Moon would have been higher on my list if I'd owned the DVD. Instead I had 7 discs swapping away and completely lost any connection with the game world I was so busy.

AK2 had some of the best sound effects in a game. I loved riding the horse but that got old quick when you have to keep revisiting the same areas. Got saddle sore. smile

Dracula: Last Sanctuary could have been great except for all the timed puzzles thrown in (a few of which were hard) and all the pixel hunting. Sheesh! Other than that, it was a really good game!

Why in the world do they do that? Put timed puzzles in, I mean frown You're playing along with this great game and all of sudden you're stuck for 2 days trying to gather 20 piglets into a small basket and make it through the stone door as it slowly closes.

I wouldn't have minded the game saving for me. The real aggravation was all those timed sequences and game overs.

GK3, if only it had been FMV instead of crappy 3D.

Emily,

I think that the addition of the action sequences at the end and the rough 3D used definitely could have been scrapped and made me happy. Took what would have been a sure fire A+ game and made it a B.

GK went through so many incarnations in this series. rolleyes One thing that saved the game for me was of course Jane's excellent and meticulously researched plot, the characters and most of the game play. Great updated theme music too.

I agree about Mystery of the Druids.

It's nice to be important but it is much more important to be nice.

Hi, all! Hi ya, Andy smile I have to say that GK3 would have been a phenomenal game if it weren't for the whole slew of insidious timed puzzles at the end. The story was excellent, most of the puzzles were fun, the graphics were awesome, but all those timed puzzles one on top of the other at the end really ruined the game for me. There was a point like this in the middle of Cameron Files too and that's why I still haven't finished the game.
