I wanted to download some more of my older games from BF, to replay them, but I got a message, "Big Fish cannot be downloaded securely." This is new. Is it a temporary glitch? Anyone know what it means? (UPDATE: I tried again tonight and still get the same message that the bigfishgames_p30.....exe can't be downloaded securely.)

Also, some of the games I bought do not show up on my List anymore. I know what day I bought them because I maintain a database, so I can search either by Game Title or Date Purchased. Neither works.

Finally, some of my previously purchased games don't have a Download button associated with them, even though they are on my Purchased Games list. I assume this is because they were downloaded with a package or 2 or 3 other games and the download button is associated with one of those other games, but if I don't know the governing name in that Group, how can I find the right game to Download them? (UPDATE: Good news! I am now seeing appropriate Upload buttons for all my purchased games. Now, if only I could download them!)

Thx in advance. rah

Hi Reenie,

I have moved your post over to Glitches - I have never had a message like the one you describe and I don't know what it signifies in this instance.

When I look at my Purchase History, I see "install now" and "install games from this order"(you get this when you have bought two games during a BOGO sale, for instance). There are no missing download buttons.

Hopefully someone else will have answers to your questions.

Your problems all probably have the same root cause, probably related to Big Fish's "updating" their website and server system. If they've started buying additional server space from a hosting company, they may have to update their security certificates to include the new hosting company.

If you're still having problems tomorrow, email Big Fish about it.

In the Tomorrow's Game Today that Marian posted about today, one of the reviewers is having this same issue.

At least that's progress.
It sounds like they are working on the problem.

Family, that is the message I got, too. I already had tried uninstalling/reinstalling the Big Fish Manager, and that made no difference. When I reported it to BF, they sent me back the usual format Reply, with a Coupon Code for a new game. Very nice of them, but if I can't download the game I just bought, a Coupon Code for another game won't be of much help. ha ha Still, it is appreciated, and I will save it for later, if this gets fixed before the Code expires in two weeks. For now, I am dead in the water, waiting for another update from them. Sounds like it isn't just me and my computer, though, and that is reassuring.

You should tell them that.
The initial "form letter" response is not a real response. You have to keep after them until you get a real response.

The low level support they have for the first support request you send them about an issue are people who don't know anything except "send the form letter." It may not even be a person, but an email filtration system that sorts by keyword and sends out the form letter.

You have to keep after them to have your issue sent to higher level support -- to a tech support person who can actually tell there's a problem.

When you get that initial email with the coupon code, Reenie, it says in that email that if you still need to talk to someone and need your problem solved, that you need to reply to the automated email.

What this first automated reply does is weed out people who are happy to just receive a free game code and have that be the end of it. If you want to speak with a real person, you need to always reply to the email that issued you a coupon code.

I did that, Jenny and Marian. Thanks. With my reply, I sent them a screen capture showing the Error Message. Here's hoping!

Just read on a forum elsewhere that this problem appears to be web-browser related. No problems for folks with Firefox but problems for people with Chrome. There may be other problematic browsers as well.

My suggestion to those having these issues is to try using a different web browser and see if that helps until the problem is fixed.

I saw a review today that mentioned a "crdownload". Don't know if that is part of this issue or a new issue for some?

This may mean you have to change your default web browser.
I think the Big Fish Game Manager uses whatever web browser you have set as default.
So if you're doing your downloading and installing using listings in your Big Fish Game Manager, your success may depend on your default web browser.

Even if you use a different web browser to download an "installer" after logging into your account at the Big Fish website, that installer will use the Big Fish Game Manager to download, install, and activate the game.

Firefox and Microsoft's browser use different certificate stores. Firefox uses its own. Microsoft's (IE or Edge) uses Microsoft's. I'm not sure what Chrome uses, but Google may have its own certificate store for Chrome.

I just tried downloading a game from my BF Manager and had no problems, I am using
Pale Moon as my Browser (I read somewhere that it is the little sister of Firefox). So I guess Marian and Jenny100 are right about it being browser based.

big fish sent me this,

Big Fish (Big Fish Games)

Aug 4, 2020, 8:24 AM PDT

Hi Susan,

Thanks for letting me know. This is an issue that our team is looking into right now, but for the time being we can get around this by downloading the game a different way.

To do this, instead of clicking on 'Play Now' to download the game, please right-click the 'Play Now' button and choose 'Copy Link Address'. Then, open a new browser window and right click in the address bar and select 'Paste and Go'. The file should now download without this error.

Please do let me know if there is still trouble from there though and I can definitely help out!

Sincerely,

Tim

Thanks for letting us know what they said. It's good to know the workaround.

I don't see why it wouldn't, but we will just have to wait and see.

The only time I see "Play Now" is in the Big Fish Game Manager after the game has already been installed.
