So after you downloaded the installation stub from the game's webpage were you able to get your Big Fish Game Manager to use it to download the real game installer and get the game (or demo) activated?

Considering your post #1224417 in the Casual Games forum, the answer is no,
and I'm not surprised.

All that teeny little installation stub does is tell the Game Manager where to download from, and possibly what type of activation to use (timed demo or full game). It may also tell the Game Manager what security certificate to use. The installation stub, which is normally only KB in size, certainly doesn't contain any game files and is not the actual installer. The actual installer would be in the MB or even GB size (a thousand or even a million times as large as that tiny stub).

If your Game Manager isn't able to follow the instructions contained in the installation stub because of a certificate mismatch or misconfiguration, it isn't going to be able to download or activate the game or demo associated with that stub.

You're just going to have to wait until Big Fish sorts out the problem -- or until your web browser updates its certificate store to match whatever Big Fish is using.

Thanks, Jenny. I am patient. While I am missing playing my games, I have other things to do while stuck in the house. I'm sure BF will work out the Google download problem soon, since they likely are the ones who programmed the changes that led to the problem (?) I doubt Google would write something to exclude random sites from downloading.

Google has been pushing for heightened computer security (and less privacy) for some years now.

This sentence sounds contradictory to me smirk

I see Google as the cause of this problem rather than Big Fish, but please correct me if I am wrong.

Many people would agree with you.
Security and Privacy aren't exactly the same though.

Here's Norton's description of the difference

Thanks Jenny. I understand the difference, and maybe contradictory is not the right word, but less privacy sure can't help you to be more secure (IMO).

I agree.
Many other people agree.
That's one reason some people go out of their way not to use Google or Google products, and to try to block Microsoft's telemetry or not use Windows at all.

The more I have read and found out about Google, the less I have wanted to have anything to do with it.

I am back in business, with Big Fish. Whatever the problem was, it has been fixed without me having to do any twiddling with my machine. I now can download games I already own at BF as well as look at new offerings. And they gave me a game coupon for my trouble. Great folks.

In the meantime, one of the things the tech told me as we exchanged emails back and forth was that my upgrading to a solid state hard drive might have contributed to the problem, especially with regard to any games that are two or three years old. That was news to me. I've experienced having computer equipment too slow for some games, but never encountered a problem with having it be too fast. Whodathunkit? duh

Oddly, the game I downloaded is a relatively new one (Worlds Align: Deadly Dream), and although it starts up and runs just fine, it takes a very long time to do both (spool up and then shut down).

I'm glad you are back in business Reenie. I have noticed also, that some of my games take a very long time to load on my Windows 10 computer which has a SSD drive, although I do download the games to the regular hard drive the Big Fish Game manager is on the SSD. duh
