The reviews of this game have been less than stellar, but I'm still curious about it since my happiest times in Fallout games are when I'm off on my own anyway. Has anyone ventured in yet?

I don't know anyone as yet who has tried this. I would be interested to hear about it, too. wave

Nope, I started scanning as soon as the gameplay videos came out and haven't seen anything that compelled me to try another MMO. The main comments I've seen beside the bugs and glitches is that it's boring. Once you put a few days into it, you run out of interesting things to do. Apparently, other than the boss fights there isn't much in the way of interesting and engaging NPC's.

Hm. Boring/bugs seem to be common themes among reviews. How on earth did they get this so wrong? Why not just Fallout 5? I would have jumped in with both feet.

Think they were trying to cater to the PVP crowd. Bad move.

Here's a recorded live-stream review done by Alanah Pearce this morning. Pretty much gives the impressions that Bethesda really didn't do much to improve or change the environment to make it compelling. Luckily she runs into a nice level 50 player who was watching her stream and gave her a couple tips.

Added AngryJoe's Fallout 76 Angry Review for a good laugh. *Warning* Joe's language is very "colorful" lol He makes some valid points though. Especially about the unfulfilled promises by Bethesda on the quality of the game.

Anyway, I hope this doesn't end the franchise. I've loved all of the Fallout games since the first one, and hope to be playing fallout 10 someday. I mean, sneaking through a blasted, ruined city with an arsenal of cool weapons, zillions of places to explore, and endless level-ups. Killing supermutants with a teddy bear...what's not to love?

Yup, that junk shooter while heavy as a son of a gun, can sure be fun. grin

All this talk about Fallout made me start a new game of F4. The varied exploration is awesome and the NPC's, while somewhat repetitive when you run by the same ones more than once, can be entertaining as can the companions. I just picked up that super mutant Strong as a companion again. I still laugh out loud at some of his random comments, "Me getting hungry, need someone to eat." lol Two things that I've never been a big fan of, even from the original iterations of Fallout are certain aspects of the character development tree and the inventory control. Throwing those uh, "features" as they stand into an MMO that's populated with nothing but basic foes, repetitive bosses and what seem to amount to an abundance of "scavenger hunt" style quests is definitely a recipe for failure. How shallow did they think the average gamer is to remove everything that was good about F3, FLV and F4? smirk

Seriously. What were they thinking? They couldn't possibly have market-tested the concept. Sheer hubris on somebody's part.

This video review by Camelworks was very good
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-LA2Pubi_w

It shows a lot of what the game looks like, including some interesting areas to explore.
The video starts out with a 3¼ minute intro, then the positive aspects, then goes into the bad parts -- the lack of a good story, ignoring previous lore, lack of NPC's, and the various bugs.

If you're mainly interested in exploring by yourself, the game may eventually be worth considering -- provided they work out the bugs.

Great video Jenny and he hits the nail on the head about the current bugs and the reason I wouldn't put a dime into the game, even if the bugs were fixed; a complete lack of interesting content with any depth.

It looks like a bunch of talented contractors took the base engine (which has been used for every Elder Scrolls and new gen Fallout game) plus a bunch of primary assets and overlaid super-cool graphic test regions as a way to market their services to Bethesda. The problem is, it also looks like Bethesda said, "Great! Let's slap a big price tag on it and sell it as is, you guys can go home now."

Makes me very cautious about the next Elder Scrolls game that's going to come out. The teaser for that one was just the landscape, seems all too similar to what they were pushing for this game. If I want to walk around in an amazing environment, I'll go take a walk in the woods. If I want to lose myself in a fantastical and dangerous journey to lands that I've never gone before and meet people and creatures both amazing and grotesque, I'll turn on a game. Bethesda, take note. grin

Surely by now, though, the lack of Fallout 76 sales and the bad reviews should have sent a message. One would hope...

I bought the game full price on launch day, played hundreds of hours, finished the main quest, and that was it. Haven't played the game in several months. Have no interest in doing months of grinding that these games usually have you do. And yes, this was one of the buggiest games I've ever played (see 1001 bugs in Fallout 76), and still is. Yet Bethesda says the game is "doing very well," no doubt due to the many expensive microtransactions. If this game continues for "years and years" as Bethesda has hoped, we can forget about having any more Fallout games in the future.

Well, darnitall.

I would happily shell out more moolah for more Fallout, but not that kind of Fallout.

Bethesda, dear, I love you to bits, but would you please just admit you made a mistake and let us all move on?

Yup, it seems Bethesda and Microsoft have been running along the same business model: Farm out all your development work, then release a half- baked product to the public to reduce the cost of actually testing it. I don't have high hopes for the next Elder Scrolls campaign either. They've put to much into the MMO to want the free standing campaign ending up being a big success. I did ESO for awhile and got board with it fairly quick, which is saying a lot considering how I've been a huge fan of the free-standing games since their inception. I'm betting the next one will have some tie-in to the MMO to get gamers who haven't signed up on the hook....

What really has me worried is that space based game, it was supposed to have Fallout tie-ins. My guess is that the tie in will be to 76 for the reasons mentioned.

It's all so very disappointing. I've been enjoying my never-ending Fallout 4 game with a ton of settlement building mods and a few other tweaks. I never really get tired of it.

It may be the last Fallout game that brings me that much fun.

Many players thought The Outer Worlds gave a true Fallout-esque experience that was lacking in Fallout 76. I also bought The Outer Worlds at full price at launch in support of it. It felt like a breath of fresh air at the time.
