I bought this game a while back but my computer wasn't powerful enough to run it. I got a new computer around Christmas and just found this game again and decided to try it. It worked fine with XP.

Maybe it's just me... but I found this to be the most disorientated game I think I've ever played.
I had a really hard time understanding who & what the character I was play was. Just as I felt I was getting somewhere in a "chapter" it would suddenly end.
Some of the clues & hotspots made no sense to me, and although I understand that I am not a superhuman adventure game solver like some here, I do wonder how anyone could be expected to figure them out without additional clues or a walkthru.

Not just you!
That game was just plain weird.
I too found it disorientated and well, just strange. The ending still has me wondering what the heck happened. I remember I thought it would all come together, but for me it did not.
Liked the music, the graphics were nice, but a storyline that made sense would have been better.
There was a lot of discussion about this game I think here on Boomers..after I played I went back and read them, boy, I missed something.
So don't feel bad, you have at least that feels exactly as you do.
I think let down is the best I can describe for that one.

I started it a few times over the last 2 years and could never get into it. However I do want to play and complete it someday before I die.

It was the weirdness of this game (and the music) that I found so captivating. We had a couple of HUGE posts on this one with all kinds of psycho-analyzing when it first came out. I think the developers even put in some feedback on the themes and what was meant by some of the chapters. I enjoyed reading the posts on this one as much as the game. Actually think the posts helped the game. I wonder if they are archived somewhere.

I too was left confused by the game's plot.. If you could say it had one.. heh. And I just don't see how anyone could have finished this game without a walkthrough.. So I didn't really like the game..

HOWEVER, thinking back, this game definitely had the best soundtrack of any game I have played.. It was excellent smile

I thought Faust was a fascinating game. One reason the plot seemed disjointed is that you're learning about things that happened in the past, and you don't learn them all in chronological order.

Here\'s the thread where many of the themes of the game were discussed and someone from Arxel answered some questions.

It is the most interestig game based on the seven deadly sins; avarice, gluttony. sloth, jeousy, wrath, lust, greed. If you rethink the game in the frame of the deadly sins you will make sense of it.

There is no chronological order, there is only the consequence of the offence.

Being one who likes challenging games requiring logical actions & thoughful pursuance of strangeness, I nonetheless found this game to be both overrated and pretentious. Chapter 2 was especially a pain to get through. Pixel hunting, not my favorite adventure game activity, was the predominant theme of many chapters. The music was great and the best thing about the game.

I'm surprised to read that so many of you didn't like this game. It's one of my favorites and each time I replay it I gain a few new insights that I hadn't caught before.

To me it's more than a game...a kind of study of human nature. And combined with the wonderful soundtrack, playing it is a unique experience. smile

Not a fan of this game either, but alot of it has to do with all the problems I had with it, constatnly crashing, freezing, etc, for me it was the buggiest games I have ever encountered.

The UK version was called Faust. I bought the DVD version back when Software First was still in business. Unfortunately the DVD version has that problem that screws up the end sequence.

Must admit that I had no problems running this game. Bugginess is a pet pevee of mine and can ruin a good gaming experience. My sympathies to anyone that had problems running this one.

I still think anyone that hasn't, should check out the link to the posts about this game. Very interesting read.
