Not sure what you mean. I just took a look at the walkthrough that oldbroad linked to and it has both pictures and text. I wonder why it isn't showing up for you properly?

I am not sure exactly where you are, but you will be needing to get the key to Harbour Cottage - I do remember that.

So, do you still only have pictures and no text in MaG's walkithrough? The text is what you will need to be able to follow what you need to do. I played it, but it's been so long ago, I don't remember much. There is a lot to do before you get that key.

Let us know about that walkthrough because there is a LOT to do in this game and you're going to need it!

And I guess we have to assume it has text in addition to pictures.

If you have Windows 10, here are a couple of ways to search for Lost Crown:

Quote
Find a program in Windows 10

There are several ways to find programs within Windows 10. Pick the one you like best.

1. Click the Windows Start button. Most used programs will feature at the top.
2. Click All apps at the very bottom of the menu to see all recognized programs.

Or:

1. Open Windows Explorer and Navigate to a hard drive.
2. You will see folders contained within that drive. Select one to explore further.
3. If you use C: drive, most programs will be within Program Files or Program Files (x86) if you use 64-bit Windows.

If still no luck, you can try asking over in Glitches.

pcgamingwiki has a location for the Steam version, but if you have a different version it will probably install somewhere else.
It wouldn't surprise me if a version bought from Shadow Tor installed in a Shadow Tor subfolder.

https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/The_Lost_Crown

I don't know why your desktop icon would disappear though, unless Windows for some reason reverted to an earlier snapshot and forgot everything after an unsuccessful update.

Hope you can find your game and don't have to replay.

I started another thread for the issue you are having here. Please post any questions you may have in this Glitches thread. Jenny answered your question there also. This thread is for hints only, so I created a new thread for you over in Glitches for your question about the code.

That sounds like the popup where you're supposed to enter the code is being blocked.

What version of Windows are you using?

You may have to run the installer in compatibility mode.

You may also have to run the installer as an Administrator (right-click the Setup and choose Run As Administrator).

I assume it's similar to Windows Vista/7/8/8.1

I've never used Windows 10 for games and you're better off asking someone who does.

Browse the CD/DVD and look for the Setup file.
Right-click that, then Properties.
If there's nothing called "Properties" then browse around the right-click menu until you find something with similar sub-options.

You can also do an Internet search for

Windows 10 compatibility mode

and find everything about that I know and more.

I have never used Windows 10 for games either, so Jenny and I have that in common.

Take a look at Jenny's advice in regards to the code, which she gave in this thread.

I tried to move this discussion over to Glitches, because what we are discussing is not hint-related.

I doubt you've played any game that used DRM like SecuROM or StarForce, or
similar DRM on the game disc. I don't know what this game uses, but I think
it was a custom DRM.

This is the problem with buying discs instead of downloads.
The downloads are guaranteed to work on current versions of Windows.
The disc versions are not.

I have a boxed copy of The Lost Crown and after I install the game, it runs without the disc in the drive.

I have installed The Lost Crown on Windows 10 with no problems. When you first start the game, it asks for the code, there is a box and you just enter the code.

Yes it runs without the disc in the drive AFTER the code has been input.

If you uninstall the game after installing the game and inputting the code on the same computer, I have no idea if it "remembers" that the code has been input or not.

Is that the 2008 version of the game or a more recent version?

Since you have Windows 10, and the game installs for you, what do you think
is the reason why deleterman's game is not installing and not putting up the
box to type in?

I really can't remember. If I had to guess I'd say it was the older version. I have since given the game to someone else as I never cared for it. I had many hours in the game and finally just got tired of trudging around! I can't imagine why he's not getting box to input the code.

EDIT: Although I no longer have the game, I did find my old saves on another drive and it looks like the last time I played it was in 2014, so who knows!
