I'd LIKE to do laundry, but my pipes to the washing machine are frozen! This is not unusual when it get this far below zero and the wind is blowing. The house is well over 100 years old and the pipes run under an unheated crawl space and we do have a heater under there, but it just couldn't keep up. Hopefully, they won't burst when they thaw later this week!
We got about 8" yesterday - not bad, but the wind blows so hard out here in the country, it really drifted.
Hubby and I are SO happy - we got our 2nd vaccines last week. Nearly felt like dancing! Still need to be super careful, but hopefully we can get out a little bit more as the weather warms up. I had zero side effects and hubby had a headache for about 12 hours. Well worth it to be vaccinated though!
Have a great day, everyone!

Draclvr and connie -- so great that you're getting your vaccinations. According to the information I have I won't be getting mine until late August or early September. At least we live somewhere that has good outdoor activities and we aren't going stir-crazy.
That reminds me -- I have to make appointment for my second Shingles vaccination.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Good evening all! We have been buried in snow here and crazy low temps. It hit 19f for a short while today and after the 0f temps it felt like a heatwave! We have a couple feet of snow here with the addition of 6-8 last night. I had to get up at o'dark 30 to get everything shoveled and snow blowed before I could go to work. It feels like it's been a whole week already! Drac, what a pain about your pipes! I do hope they defrost without issues! be back.. MaG added a new graemlin for us today!

I was thinking about you being out there today Ana with all the fresh snow. According to the weather another 18" fell in Oak Park yesterday/last night. I am only about a mile north of Oak Park so I guess we got something close to that here also. My brother thought it was 2 feet more. Drac, I also hope your pipe defrost goes well. Just out of curiosity, how do you know when a pipe is frozen. Did you try to use the washer or can you tell some other way? Thanks MaG! Stay safe out there everybody, no matter what your weather!!

oldbroad, I was very fortunate. I had 6-8 on the areas that didn't have drifting snow, but I work west of me in Saint Charles and they had a couple inches, 3 at best. I was so happy to see that! My son lives in Roscoe Village and they got buried too! Ana

Oldbroad, I tried to use the washing machine and nope! If the pipes burst, we will hear the hissing of the water being released under pressure. Fingers crossed and will be grateful for warmer temps later this week! MaG, you're the best! Stay warm, everyone!

A hospital day for us, but thankfully the temperature has risen and the roads are clearing so driving there and back wasn't a problem. Then on to the coffee shop to pick up a 5 lb. bag of espresso beans for our morning cappuccinos. Yum! Makes getting up worthwhile.
Draclvr, I really hope your pipes don't burst on you.
I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

If you are talking about the Copper pipes, then you could try putting a heating wire around the pipes, there are different types you can check out, here is one video example of it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h3lvNmGqTjIGood luck

Thanks, Starcom. No, the flexible hoses on the machine aren't the problem. It's the copper pipes under the VERY small crawl space! About 20 years and 20 pounds ago, I was able to wiggle under there and wrap the lines in heating tapes, but they no longer work. That's why we have that heater under there. I'm way too old and fat to do that any more!

Nah, your not too old or fat, if so then I can join the old and fat club, that is why if in your situation I would hire a Young and Skinny plumber or electrician to do it. Well off to bed.. Good night to you and all Boomers, take care.

I refuse to comment in this instance on the grounds I might incriminate myself 😜

Well, I'm in the old and fat group too . I was working out on my bike today and caught a look at myself in my workout gear. Whoa! COVID lockdown weight! I refuse to be old, though. I've decided I'm getting younger from now on. Happy Thursday everyone!

And, YAY! Pipes have unfrozen and I did a load of laundry today. No burst pipes. I'm doing a load at midnight too because it's going to get down below zero again tonight.
I totally agree with your outlook, hagatha!
