I am replaying Schizm from many years ago and finding it as difficult now as it did all those years ago. However, I am making erratic progress but I have reached an impasse now that I really cannot fathom out.

I have got to the Living ship stage when I have now acquired the 8+1 pearls, when I am supposed to go back to the temple, but on the way down I do not encounter the man who is supposed to tell me to "get to the balloon there is still time etc". I did carry on to the altar room, in the hope that the encounter was not necessarily key to my progress, but nobody appeared to give me the CD. So I needed to find out what I have done wrong.

I got back to the door that I THINK he was supposed to emerge from, but all that I can do is knock on the door, but no-one appears.

I'd be grateful if I could be pointed in the right direction - I have been using MaG's W/T to get this far.

Let's wait for someone familiar with the game who can help you out here.

Not having played the game myself, I can only direct you to a written walkthrough or to a video walkthrough on YouTube.

Yeah, same here. I haven't played it, so could only point you to a walkthrough. If I had to guess though, you probably missed something that you need to do to trigger the appearance.

I'm sure you are right - I must have missed something that I should have done, or perhaps I have done something that I should not have done. Sounds a bit like the Creed, to me.

However, I will go back to a saved game and try again.

There is an awful lot of scurrying about hither and yon, in this game. Am I alone in thinking that it is over complicated?

Peter, I don't think you are alone in thinking this is a difficult game! That is what I have always heard from other players.

it certainly wasn't easy and I havent played in so long I can't help with this puzzle sorry.
looking at one of the other walkthroughs, there is a note that says a certain character won't turn up unless you have a certain tablet. not sure if its the character you are after but its a round the same place

Peter, I don't know for sure, because it is so many years ago (20?) since I played Schizm. But what you described sounds
very similar to a problem that I had back then. I was waiting for man to appear and give or tell me something and he just did not come.
Somehow I was missing what triggered it. I went to EVERY place in the whole world but he did not show up. Guess what the solution was?
I used different saves (with more or less the same game state) to get everywhere because it was quicker to just load a ave where I already was at the location I wanted to explore once again rather than walking to the location with currently loaded save.. Only when I used ONE saved game and walked in every corner of the game without saving or loading the man appeared.

So If you still have the problem, I think it is worth a try.

Mike,
I finally got round to trying again, and found that, like you, I had used the wrong save! So progress has been made.

I am now at the fiendish bridge puzzle so normal service will be delayed until I can find the way to solve it.
Thanks for the tip.

pete - hope that the floods are not causing you too much trouble

Mike,

I confused you with flotsam, who posted on 12 March.
Hence the reference to the flooding in NSW.

So, flotsam, I hope that you are not flooded.

I just started this game for the first time. It looks good but the movement is making me dizzy so it's going to be a really long slowly played game (or a lot of walkthrough using).

It is certainly a brilliant game in terms of the artistry and animation, but it seems too clever by half in the interminable to-ing and fro-ing between locations.
The characterisaion is also pretty good as far as the voices are concerned, so all in all I would rate the game as A-.

I had only played the CD version of the game, but as I am a glutton for punishment, I have just downloaded the Gog DVD version and hopefully I will be able to cope with the extra sections of the game therein.

Good luck, oldbroad.

Thanks petert! And, good luck to you too! I am playing the GOG version also. It is definitely a nice looking game. I'm sure I'll be reaching for a walkthrough soon though laugh.

Oldbroad, there certainly is no shame in consorting a walkthrough fro schizm. It is one of the most difficult Myst-games I ever played and i played lot.

Perter, cool that you found out why you were stuck smile

Have fun both of you. And I heard the DVD is MUCH better than the CD version.
