Lately I have noticed some adults saying the word "sammich" These are grownups not 2 or 3 year children. Just wondering why they were not corrected as children or using common sense. BTW: it's "sandwich."

I've been using it for along time! It's just slang for sandwich. I use "sammy" sometimes too if it's a really good one!

Count me in with Drac! I have been using the word Sammich for as long as I can remember! A quick google says the Oxford Dictionary said it began in 1940's. It is not a new trend at all!

I have never heard anyone use the word, but then again I don't get out much. Really? I don't get out much either but I sure know the word sammich! The Urban Dictionary says it is "a type of sandwich, not just any kind of sandwich". There appear to be some restaurants in Oregon with the name "Sammich".

Strange. Now I am wondering if maybe its use is more prevalent in certain states/regions of the country. I have also lived in other states (Colorado and New York), and never heard the word there either.

There are restaurants in Cali with the name too, Marian. here is one in LA and one in san diego. I've heard it anywhere I've traveled to to be honest. It's pretty universal, but I guess you have to hang with people casual speak.

That's what both my boys called spaghetti when they were little! Now, I didn't know that the origin of the word sammich was back in the 1940's! I had never heard of it where I'm from in NW Iowa though. Started hearing sammich when I moved down here to the St. Louis area 50 years ago.

What about Pasghetti? You must have heard of that! Yes, I have heard that one before. My father (born and raised in Oak Park, Illinois) used to call it that when I was a child. Ana, I haven't been in the LA and San Diego area for about 30 years, but good to know! Last time I was in LA was 1991. We were on the seventh floor of the Pan Pacific Hotel, right across from Disneyland, and an earthquake hit with lots of aftershocks. I won't bore you with the details, but after that I vowed never to return to that area unless it was something really, really important. Scared the daylights out of me and my children were there too. I was last in San Diego in the 1980s when my father lived on Coronado Island in a condo. Orville Redenbacher had a condo there too and my father had some good chats with him while in the elevator apparently.

Marian, I was in the South Bay Area when the earthquake happened. I was washing my dog. She was full of shampoo and everything stated shaking. I decided to continue to rinse her off just in case we lost water. We then ran out side. Did I mention that I wash my dogs in only my underwear

To me pasghetti and sammich kind of go together, that's why I asked that.
Don't they have earthquakes in your part of California? I certainly wouldn't be bored by the details! Not much, and we are not on a fault line. I have only felt a very mild shaking here a couple of times in the last 20 years. This is just one of the reasons I like living in this area. I lived in Napa for 16 years and spent some time in Santa Rosa in my childhood (both cities north of San Francisco), and those cities are on the Hayward and San Andreas faults respectively. No, thank you! Not going to do that again. Winfrey, that is too funny! And we always seem to remember exactly what we were doing when the earthquake hits.
