Very, very nice gaming computer! You're especially going to like that Solid State drive! I don't know if I could go back to a pokey slow HDD any more. I love your case too!

I had an SSD in my Win7 when it was first built but although splendidly fast it just wasn't big enough and I got it swapped out.
I don't think I'll have that problem though this time 😑

When I REALLY notice the slow HDDs is when I go to work on other people's computers. Sometimes it's a combination of factors, but the HDD just magnifies. I find it painful!

It will be retiring with an unblemished record - and still in perfect working order - after 23 years and three months of practically daily use, soot !! ( And I am really sad about losing it but I simply can't fit FOUR machines in my setup )

My current XP machine WAS once a 98SE/XP dual boot, Starcom, but locating compatible parts when I wanted to upgrade the XP side proved difficult, so eventually I had the 98 taken off - carried on with my original 98SE - and just upgraded the XP (How I will cope with my new Win10 is something I'm not thinking too deeply about ) EDIT : I feel three machines is enough, really, oldbroad, and I do have tweaked modern versions of a lot of my older Win98 games so I'm not losing out too much on the game angle

Hee Hee !! My Win10 machine is now here with me and is up and running. [Not networked with Win7 and WinXP yet but IS linked to them by the KVM.] So Now I'm happily fiddling and investigating "what's what" with it - and fervently hoping I won't wreck anything

You won't hurt anything! Have fun exploring and holler at me if you have any questions! I can do Windows 10 in my sleep!
I'm sure your SIL will know how to network them without allowing either Windows 7 or XP to expose your Windows 10 to malware on the internet.

Thanks, all And yes, Draclvr, my SIL can certainly deal with the networking. It's just that on this latest visit he ran out of time - so it will be done on his next. But I'll certainly shout out any questions I might have in the meantime, thank you

I'm actually only using it now and then, oldbroad, because my Son in Law has still not fully finished sorting the KVM or Networking to his satisfaction. (The "time" thing.) But I AM gradually getting to grips with Win10 - even if only to deal with Mail and using the internet 😁

There really isn't a Windows 10 email. If you have Outlook, you must have Office installed on your computer. I agree that Outlook takes some getting used to, but I persevered and am like you with it it now! I don't want to learn a new one!

I used Outlook Express for years and then moved on to Outlook and have stayed with it.
(I did try Thunderbird for a while but then ditched that 😑)

If the icon looks like an envelope, that's the Mail app. It is used to add your existing email accounts in order to manage them from one place. You would have had to set up an Outlook.com (the free web-based email) account. And, no it's not connected with Edge. I use the Mail app to monitor a BUNCH of email accounts for out American Legion post. I also have a Gmail email account and an Outlook.com account that are mine that I monitor. I also monitor hubby's Gmail account there. I like it because it shows me at a glance if emails have arrived. This is a pretty good description of the Mail app. Note that is says existing. Windows 10 Mail is only a sync service for existing mail accounts both online and in your office mail if you have it.

I'm obviously not explaining this well. No, the Mail app is not existing! It SYNCS existing email accounts and nothing more! It is not an email program itself. What email account do you have associated with it? It will tell you on the left side.
This is a screen grab of all the email accounts I use the Mail app to sync so I can see if mail came in or not.

I know... I thought of that. But they are all public anyway! Just wanted to demonstrate that the Mail app is not an email program. It is an app to manage all your email accounts. Now that I've done that, I'll probably delete it. But as I said, they are all public anyway. I just didn't want anyone else to get the wrong idea about what the Mail app is for because it is not an email program.
I've found that number thingie to be useless. What I would suggest you do if you don't want to use the Mail app is to delete whatever email account is associated with it. To do that, just click on the gear thingie on the bottom, then click on Manage Accounts. Click on the account you want to remove from the Mail app and then follow the prompts on the next screen.

Drac, not to keep harping on this but, if I can send and receive and manage my emails in there, to me, that is an email program. Since my MSN app is the same thing, apparently I don't have ANY email "program". That may not be the correct terminology but you should know by now that I am not computer literate, am digitally challenged, and don't have the biggest vocabulary. I say that, not to put myself down, but to state the facts.

I get it! But, nope! It's not an email program all by itself. If you didn't have your email account associated with it, it would just sit there like a lump. But that's OK. I just don't want someone else to think it is. Terminology can be important. If you like it, just keep using it! It's far from perfect, but when you need to monitor a lot of emails from different programs like I do, it's a very handy app.

As I said, I get it "for you!" Just need to make sure there is no misinformation for someone else! And if you ever figure out that number thing, let me know!
