Hey, you ESO players. I've ventured in, got myself to level 12, and still have absolutely no idea what I'm doing.

I managed to level myself up in a class I didn't want without realizing it, for a start. I didn't want to be a Magic-using Nightblade; I was actually going for my usual Assassin/ Sneak/ Bow Expert. So now I have to change my thinking about the character. Not a huge deal, but I'd better figure out a proper career path for my character before I go much farther.

On another note, it really is very, very peculiar seeing all the other noobs emerging and running around cluelessly out there, all of us heading for the same things. Apart from the whole not killing other players thing, I'm not sure what the etiquette is. Do I help them out if they're in trouble? Or just let them do their own thing?

And sometimes they come right up to me and LOOK. Weird. I'm pretty sure I didn't give my character a giant wart on the nose or some other odd feature that draws attention like a green face or a pointy hat...

Anyway, I sure could use a decent guide if you can recommend one for me.

Okay, so I think maybe this game is not for me. I've played for two days and it was fun enough, but I was given a sneaking quest got caught, and now have a bounty and guards attacking me. You have no way of knowing in advance if your sneak skill is high enough, there's no way to restart the quest and that means it's a non-starter for me.

I don't anything about Elder Scrolls Online so can't say anything useful on the subject, unfortunately.

There's always Red Dead Redemption 2. smile

Wish I could give you some advice hagatha, but I only played a few levels, quite sometime ago. I found it unintuitive, and was too close to other MMORPG's that required the usual repetitive grinding to level. Was also not real keen on their crafting system. When I dumped the cash on the game, I thought it would be similar from a control and feature perspective to the other ES games, unfortunately that wasn't the case. There was also the idiot players that liked to troll me while playing. Even though they couldn't do any damage since I wasn't doing PVP, I kept running into twits that would wag their weapon in my general direction and jump through my character just to be arses. smirk That was the last straw. Really sucked considering how much the base game cost at the time.

It's fun for a while but there are some aspects of it that I find disappointing. The quests are seriously underwhelming. The map looks the same, but the distances are all much shorter, and so far most of the locations I've found can't be entered. When you play Morrowind you feel a real sense of adventure and excitement when you stumble across a Deadric or Dwemer ruin. In ESO I come across places I remember, but they're diminished and unimportant.

Also, there are few merchants and I'm constantly having to destroy stuff I'd rather sell.

Marian, yes, Red Dead Redemption 2 awaits in the wings. Summer isn't the best time for serious gaming, though, since we have a lot of outdoor stuff to do and I'd like to be able to give it my full attention. I would even start another game of Cyberpunk but I think twice is enough until there's DLC.

I'll tool around in here for a while longer. It's pretty and shiny and fast-moving and the music is good. But I don't think I'll be buying any of the other content.

Sounds good about Red Dead Redemption 2, hagatha. It will be great to play when you are spending more time indoors. wave

Trail, I haven't seen too much arseholery, just a few annoyances. Some butting in ahead of me for boss fights so I've had to wait a while for it to respawn, that sort of thing. I've been rescued a few times when I've gotten myself into trouble with a mob or boss.

But holy smokes, some of these people are obsessed. I've been seeing the odd level 40-ish character running around, and then I went to the marketplace outside of Vivec. Level 2100? What could possibly be a challenge at that point?

Level 2100? Good grief, that's basically Demi-god status. They'd even have to be careful not to f*rt in a populated area grin

It seems bizarre to me, but I guess I'm not obsessed. These are the characters who race around the marketplace on their steeds, leaping over the mere mortals who must, alas, walk. Apparently I have a horse but I have no idea how to access it.

I have been arrested a few times but have realized that it's pretty easy just to run away from the guards and wait until the fine times out. I even got away with murder that way. grin

EDIT: So I've been playing for awhile and I'm getting better at it. This will be probably be like Fallout 4 -- a game I play for a while when I'm in-between new games. It's a bit repetitive, I find. The map of Vvardenfell seems so tiny.

July 22

My Fallout 4 game started to crash from top-heaviness (too many mods, too many huge settlement builds) so I've been played ESO exclusively for about ten days. I've got into it a lot more. I did sign up for the monthly subscription, which gives you access to all of the DLC. Now that I have a better understanding of what's what, I'm finding it a lot more enjoyable. I've got myself up to level 43. Now I can see how people get up to such ridiculously high levels with a single character. If you have the whole game, it's easy to do. It's massive.

My only issue now is that I've been invited to join a couple of people in dungeons, and I don't know what I'm supposed to do! blush Stupid newbie dork, is what they're thinking, no doubt.

Mostly people seem pretty decent in there. People help each other out of jams as they fly past, and I do that, too. For boss level fights I notice people often wait for other people to show up before starting, which is really helpful since some of those fights are pretty tough. All of this is new to me.

Bumping my own thread because I'm a bit lost.

I got sick of Fallout 4 so I've been playing a bit and found myself hitting level 50, which is where all of a sudden the leveling system becomes completely different. Boy, was I surprised. I had a plan...

Anyway, I was hoping somebody here knew about guilds in general. I received an invite to join one, and after hesitating - I have no idea what I'm doing, here -- I accepted. Thing is, I really, really have no idea what I'm doing. Or even what this guild does.

Any pointers would be helpful, so I don't end up annoying somebody with my noobish clunkery.

Hagatha, I play ESO alone and with my daughter. We belong to several guilds, but my favorite is Bacon Rats. They are a pretty nice crew and are very helpful. I have 11 characters that are all leveled up and 6 or 7 fully leveled crafters. I would be glad to invite you to the guild if you let me know when you usually play. I play on the N. American server and I'm in the CST time zone. I certainly don't know everything, but someone there would be able to answer your questions. Be sure you have Discord as most of the guilds use it.
I hope this has given you a starting point.

Oh hey, that's a nice offer!

I am literally clueless about chatting and all that stuff, but I would love to join your guild. I'll check that out now.

I wasn't sure I'd like this game, but once I joined ESO and had access to the entire map, it started to grow on me. It's sort of never-ending.

I play at any time after about 10 am or so, but I live on the West Coast so a bit later than you. Since I'm retired I have all day to play! And sometimes do.

EDIT: Okay, I have no idea what Discord is. I'll have to have a look....

And now that I've looked I'm still in the dark. I'll pm you.

I'll have to go and check the spelling of my name! I haven't really paid attention to it since I started.

I sent you a PM about this, but basically I cannot get onto Discord. I've created an account with a username and a password, but when I try to sign in I get various different error messages. Sometimes my email or my password gets rejected, sometimes I get an "Oops. Something's wrong here" massage. I've been sent phone codes, which I've used to no avail. Unfortunately, the FAQ page doesn't cover this issue, and of course there seems to be no way to contact an actual person, so I'm stuck. I'll give it another shot tomorrow but I've reached my frustration tolerance limit for the evening! lol

Debra, Discord won't install, and the fix given is a big long list of things to do and files to delete and check. It feels too much like work. I'll have another look at it tomorrow.

Hagatha get with Zathrass on the guild and see if he has any ideas. He's really good with this stuff. He may know something that will help you. I'm not a techie.

Thanks, Marian. I will. I'm a bit thick today, having had very little sleep the last few nights, so I'm going to hold off until I can think again.
