We got our 3 in the tack room the other night so we were sure to be able to get them into the vet's the next day for their yearly shots..... We've been dealing with 8Ball start of laminitis, caught it early with him in the stall window open so he and Rosie can see each other... blood work sent out to see what's going on(Cushing's perhaps) found out today the lab lost the 4 tubes of blood!!! Vet came out today and did more... eek hope they don't loose these.

Dang, I was hoping you would escape the laminitis. That is an unpleasant thing for a horse to have to go through. My older mare had Cushings and she was miserable. Had to hose her down multiple times a day. They never offered me meds for her, but that was a long time ago.

We're starting to see forest fire smoke coming down the channel from the north, from the fires in the Chilcotin and on the Island north of here.

The Spousal Unit is still pretty much immobile, getting up to practice walking in his walker and doing exercises. Fortunately it's still very windy here, so we're not missing any boating anyway.

Otherwise, it's just some chores today, as much as I can gear up for, anyway. I'd really love to have a day or two when I didn't have to DO anything, where I can just schlep around the house in my dressing gown and drink tea. But there's always something...

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Nothing for me this morning except for a bit of coffee. Have to run in town this morning to get my bloodwork done following my annual physical yesterday. Then it's doing laundry and cleaning in the two spare bedrooms for guests this weekend. My nephew from NW Iowa and his family are stopping on their way down to Branson, Missouri to spend the night. Other than my sister in May, I haven't seen my Iowa family for 3 1/2 years, so I'm really looking forward to it. They are all vaccinated except for Izzy and she's too young. So we're comfortable with having 7 people in the house for the weekend. Since she was very little, Izzy has been fascinated with what I do down at Longmeadow Rescue Ranch, so I'm taking her down there for a personal tour! We have a new baby miniature horse and another Thoroughbred mare about to deliver a foal any day. Journey survived a horrific trailer wreck on the interstate last October on the way to a slaughterhouse in Mexico.

So lots of cooking ahead for me for a couple of days. Sweet corn is ready for harvest and I even have a few tomatoes for them!

I gave Nicolette a heads up that they are heading to the #1 county in the US for COVID cases right now because of all the tourism and the extremely low vaccination rates. So she made sure Josh got vaccinated several weeks ago. They are going to stay away from all crowds as much as possible and stay masked up. The Delta variant is raging down there.

He's doing really well. He is out now 24 hours... still wearing mask. We have him on some Medicine for Cushings even though we are not sure he has it. The vet came out Tuesday and pulled more blood. The lab lost the 4 viles that the vet sent to them! I mean how do you loose 4 viles of blood ! Anyway we are not sure if it is the med or just the fact we had him stalled for 2 weeks.... time will tell. Thanks for asking.

Good morning everyone! Barely have time, but I'm gonna need some of that Sumatra dark roast, soot! Doing last minute meal prep for our visitors from Iowa this weekend and some last minute cleaning. But guess what is waiting out in the garage? About 2 bushels of sweet corn that needs to be blanched, cut off the cob and put in 1 pint freezer bags! Hubby and I have a system after doing it for over 20 years, so it will only take about 3 hours. But it's still just what I didn't have time for!

At least it's a cool rainy day and not 95° like it usually is!

Hi all.

We finally have rain, so hopefully that will help our firefighters out there in the forests. The area in the Interior that's hardest hit is a beautiful high plateau, mostly ranchland and forests, where we used to go fishing decades ago. The small communities there are all on evacuation alert.

We're just hanging out these days. My husband is now practicing walking in his walker and has been down and up the stairs . There's definitely improvement. I'd like to get him at least able to walk well enough to go out for lunch.

The one good thing about all this is that his pain levels are finally starting to get the attention they need. His meds have been increased substantially. He still has pain, sometimes enough to send him back to bed, but at least he gets some relief. Also, the chronic infection he's had since the spinal surgery is being treated properly. It will never go away, but at least most of the symptoms can be controlled.

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

That sounds so much better now that the chronic infection is being addressed. It's got to make a big difference for him.

Yes. The antibiotics definitely help with the inflammation and associated pain.
